And that's officially it: the big, blockbuster retail releases are taking a break for a few weeks – it's a good thing that there's tons of PlayStation Network stuff in the pipeline, huh? This week's a particularly good one for digital downloads, if only because Shovel Knight is part of the roster. We've been looking forward to Yacht Club Games' retro-inspired sidescroller ever since it was announced in December, so there's no question what's our Pick of the Week. Shout out to Sayonara UmiharaKawase +, though, which sees you play as a sushi chef armed with a fishing rod.
Pick of the Week: Shovel Knight
It's not often that a Kickstarter campaign concludes with a critical and commercial hit, but Shovel Knight must have eclipsed even its developer's most lofty of expectations. A side-scrolling platformer inspired by various retro classics, this game not only looks the part – but it's got the gameplay chops to back up its 8-bit appearance.
In addition to being cross-buy compatible, this PlayStation re-release will also include a special guest: Kratos, no less, of God of War fame. In true old-school fashion, however, the Ghost of Sparta won't be easy to find – and he absolutely won't roll over when you inevitably engage in mortal combat. He may, however, have a trick or two to share...

I'm waiting for reviews but Assassin's Creed Chronicles has me interested.
Shovel Knight all the way. It's one of my most anticipated games this year. Also if you tried Tower of guns recently and liked it then you may need to try Ziggurat, I've heard it's better, has more interesting mechanics and demon carrots.
Buying a third copy of Shovel Knight. Yes, it's that good.
I guess I'm the only person looking forward to tropico more than shovely fun, I watched some shovel knight gameplay and if you broke sonics legs and handed him a shovel, well, doesn't look much different, it could do worse
Shovel Knight is an extremely fun game, but not worth the price tag of $15, it's simply too short. I even regretted buying it on 3ds for that much Maybe I'll wait for the discount and buy it again on PS (although it'd be super awesome if it was PS+ game for May!)
@mateq - Shovel Knight looks like a game that will end up a PS+. I'm not saying next month or anything but I'm sure it will happen.
@mateq Out of curiosity, how long is it?
I already have Shovel Knight on Wii U, but I'd gladly play it again on PS4 for the trophies if it were given out as a PS+ freebie in the near future.
This will be my third copy of Shovel Knight......and I won't regret it at all.
@get2sammyb
It's about 6 hours or so the first time through......I'll swim across the Atlantic and bonk you over the head if you don't pick it up (unless you just dislike 2D platformers)
@get2sammyb it took me somewhere between 4-5h to finish the game on normal diffculty including collecting most of the collactables... this however doesn't include the new dlc Yacht Club Games gave for free, but I dunno how long it is.
Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic little game, if you have some spare money get it by all means! However for me it's simply too short for me to justify $15 price tag
Cough Cough.......well worth the 15 bucks.
Granted everybody is free to have an opinion, but I feel like this is one of the better 2D platformers ever made, so I like to champion it......and no, it's nothing like Sonic (as someone said above), more like Mega Man mixed in with Duck Tales, and a pinch of 8 bit RPG-isms.
Yeah, 3rd and 4th copies of Shovel Knight for me. That's a game I want on every console and handheld into the house. Except maybe Xbox. Ah screw it even the Xbox is getting Shovek Knight!
Xbox is getting Battletoads in Shovel Knight I believe?......which, although Kratos has the better games, the Battletoads are much cooler.
