We know - we can hardly believe it either. Yes, Final Fantasy XV is nine years old today, at least technically. Square Enix's most anticipated project was first announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII on this very day back in 2006.
If anything, this serves as a poignant reminder that we're not as young as we used to be. This particular author, for example, was a lanky teenager, enjoying the summer holidays after departing from secondary school. Indeed, we bet that you lot could also look back over the last decade, and come to realise that it's been a significant chunk of your lives since the title popped up at E3 2006.
And what do we have to show for it? Well, we've got the Episode Duscae demo, which, by and large, feels totally unfinished, and a handful of trailers. Sure, on and off development is a factor, and the role-playing game must have gone through several incarnations by this point, but nine years? That's still ridiculous.
What were you up to almost a decade ago? Were you excited to play Final Fantasy Versus XIII on your PlayStation 3? Blow your mind in the comments section below.

Thanks for making me feel old as fu..dge.
Hopefully, it'll lauch in time for its 10th anniversary...
@Jairo_MC - That was honestly my first thought - release date - May 8, 2016.
How old is TLG?
@Jairo_MC yes. If it's not called final fantasy Xv 10th anniversary edition they're doing it wrong.
And yes. I remember being super excited for this game back when it was announced. Oh man.
@rjejr The Last Guardian was announced in 2009, but there were hints of it in 2008.
@ztpayne7 I'm still looking forward to play this game, but I'm much more excited about Persona 5 and Xenoblade Chronicles X.
I believe that assets for the original were placed in the ff13 trilogy. That's the best explanation for the sporadic gameplay and story of lightning and her friends. But 9 years is really taking the mick and as you have rightly pointed out duscae was extremely rough around the edges.
Can't wait for the decade edition next year.
@AyeHaley I was still at school!
Wow. In that span of time I've changed job 3 times, got married, had 2 kids, moved country twice and changed apartment 6 times. Get your act together Square Enix
I have had 3 kids since this was announced! Now i do feel old!
@Mrskinner @hi_drnick When your kids are older you can tell them tales of how they were born during a dark time, when Final Fantasy XV was merely a dream.
I was still in high school, a Nintendo fanboy. Final Fantasy meant nothing to me back then.
Sitting in work prob...just like I am right now
@ShogunRok Thanks, I actually loled.
I was 12 years old? Have I been following it since then? I don't think I have to be honest.
I saw the trailer and hype went over the roof. then I promised myself I will buy a PS3 day one when the game comes out...
@ShogunRok Haha only just seen this reply! very true, a tale to tell them when they are older, if it is out by then!
I was 17 when this was first announced in 2006, but I didn't know it existed until 2008 I think?
