Remember the day the snow turned to rain? Yeah, sounds like a tall tale to us – a bit like this supposed Shenmue leak. The rumour appears to stem from a Japanese site, but has been picked up by some regional variants of IGN – and now we're here to tell you why it's more rubbish than Disc Four of the otherwise excellent Shenmue II.
As with any good leak, the story revolves around a murky photograph of a projector screen. It shows a similar jacket to protagonist Ryo Hazuki's, complete with identical embroidery and a trio of falling petals. These have various cuts in them, prompting speculation that remasters of the first two games in the series are on the way. One has three strikes, which allegedly hints at the long overdue third entry in the franchise.
There's a PlayStation 4 logo in the corner, as well as a Spring 2016 release date. While it's already ridiculously farfetched, though, the thing that really gives this fake away is the inclusion of Square Enix's logo alongside SEGA's – why would the Final Fantasy maker be involved? It doesn't really make sense.
To be honest, we wouldn't be surprised if Sony struck up a deal to remaster the Dreamcast games for its new-gen format – it's the most demanded series on the Third-Party Productions team's list, after all – but the story will never, ever get finished. Yu Suzuki would probably be better off writing a novel or something, because Shenmue III ain't getting made.

....why must you crush my hopes and dreams? Can't a man have fantasies?!?
Hey - disc four is good, its got the stand alone versions of the arcade games.
I think typeface for 'spring 2016' also kind of looks like the Shenmue logo.
If this was a real thing, I'd be interested, Yu Suzuki is a legend!
If this was true, it would be an instabuy of a PS4.
Remasters of the old games would be great though. It seems the only remasters I want to see are the ones that never happen.
Now, I'm not for getting my hopes too high on the whole Shenmue 3 subject (my hopes and dreams have been shattered way too many times) but I wouldn't discofirm the rumours on the base of Square Enix being dismissed as "the creators of Final Fantasy". Especially when they're the publishers of the closest thing we've had to Shenmue in the last 10 years - Sleeping Dogs.
There has been a lot of rumors about Shenmue over the last year with it being recognised as the most wanted sequel by both Sony and Microsoft. I wouldn't be that suprised if this time it was for real. I just consciously refuse to believe it.
As much as I'd love to see this made, and a new Toe Jam And Earl (Actually loved part 3 on the x-box), I'd also love to see some of the original dreamcast titles back from the dead. Space Station, Hydro Thunder, Speed Devils, Tee Off, Sonic Shuffle, Shenmue, Skies Of Arcadia, Evolution, Timestalkers, Dragon Riders and Grandia 2...even a Seaman would be a good one to play...I'm still wondering why Sega will not give some of their dreamcast titles another go around...at least someone can re-release Omikron or D2!
@JLPick : you forgot blue stinger - one of the best games of all time ! (imo)
Two words for dev world morons, crowd fund.
@eliotgballade I did actually forget that one...there's a bunch that I forgot...Dreamcast had some great games on it that need to come back.
Please go troll elsewhere -Tasuki-
It will never ever get finished huh? Ha. Tell that to that E3 reveal.
