Ac Syndicate Punch

Assassin's Creed Unity had a lot of problems, some far more serious than its stupid companion app, but the fact that there were locked chests scattered all about the map, which could only be opened via the use of said app, was just the icing on the cake of an already disappointing package. It's a relief, then, that this year's Assassin's Creed Syndicate won't be tied to such an annoyance.

Ubisoft's been trying to force mobile software into its games for a while now. If you'll recall, Watch Dogs had its own companion app, and while it was undoubtedly better integrated than Unity's, it still wasn't something that many players felt that they needed in order to fully enjoy the game.

A publisher spokesperson told Eurogamer that "for Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the team wanted to focus all their efforts on the core experience", confirming that the release won't boast its own companion app. Good news, we reckon, as the company's got its work cut out for it if it wants to patch up the franchise's wounds.
