There are still lots of people clinging to the fact that the PlayStation 3 has a much larger install base than the PlayStation 4, but the reality is that there are many, many more active users on Sony's super machine. Ubisoft thinks so anyway, as it's ditching development on last-gen systems – well, aside from the odd casual title like Just Dance.
The company confirmed as much as part of its financial report, which also alluded to one unannounced AAA title. Last year, the organisation released two editions of its flagship Assassin's Creed franchise: Unity on the PS4 and Rogue on the PS3. However, this year it'll be focusing its efforts solely on Syndicate for new-gen systems.
It makes sense, of course: according to the company's financial report, 32 per cent of its sales over the previous fiscal year came from the PS4, while just 13 per cent stemmed from the PS3. And if you want a few more stats: the Xbox One contributed 20 per cent, while the Wii U managed just one per cent. We'll refrain from commenting.

Good!
Well it is time. It will be 2 years this holiday.
Though AC isnt the canary in the coal mine for me, let me know when Madden, FIFA, MLB the Show and COD move on. And Disney Infinity, Skylanders and Lego Dimension as well.
But yes, AAA games need to move on.
I don't think Ubisoft moving on really entices people to upgrade.
"Ubisoft's moving on" And nothing of significant value was lost today, honestly enjoy their games but not enough that I'd feel the need to go 8th gen (technically already own a 8th gen system).
Edit: Didn't Ubisoft only release two games on Wii U in 2014 Just Dance and Watch_Dogs, with Watch_Dogs coming out months later then the other versions so 1% ain't even surprising.
@Savino yeah Sony needs to step it up on the exclusives.
But yeah I'd say its time to upgrade.
I sure hope developers make the jump, in my opinion this new generation won't be officially underway until all major franchises make the jump to new gen only.. What excites me more though is thinking about all the unannounced new ips that we'll be seeing over the next few years
@rjejr I think you'll be waiting a while for FIFA to stop coming out on PS3:
@WebHead @Savino
Console released late 2013 and at this point only inFamous and Bloodborne have delivered. I definitely agree it's time Sony steps up its game on the exclusive front. Unfortunately the rest of this year doesn't look great and Naughty Dog is going to be later to the party than usual.
@rjejr @Get2sammyb Fifa hardly changes year to year so they might as well milk it on every possible console given it seems to sell decent on old consoles like PS2/Wii and PSP.
@Gamer83
I mean Shadow Fall was fine but all it had going for it was that "its the prettiest killzone ever." That's all it has going for it. Does a great job demonstrating PS4 though.
Just looking at the announced/dated games for this year show that generation 7 consoles are 'less' supported. There are a lot more games coming out for Generation 8 consoles - in fact I can't think of any AAA title that is releasing purely on Gen 7 but I can think of quite a few that are Gen 8 only.
Project Cars, and the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront and Godzilla are the only games that interest me right now for the PS4.
When Gran Toursimo 6 is announced and I hear there might be a new Hot Shots Golf - then I might consider buying a PS4.
But with my PS3, Wii U and 3DS there is just no real reason for me to buy one. Maybe this Holiday Season if I find a good deal - I might be tempted.
@get2sammyb - Wow, really? And I thought my PS3 defense was hard core. But PS2, just wow. (And I actually thought that was photoshopped until I checked Amazon.) Just checked, PSP versions too.
@Jazzer94 - But no Wii U version. Man that's just said.
OK, FIFA was a bad example. But there's still MGSV on PS3 in September. (I'm kinda shocked that hasn't been canceled, honestly.) Lets see what E3 has to say. I'm betting MGSV is the last big new-ish AAA release though, it is time to move on.
Besides the "yearlies" here's a couple of possible sequels that PS3 could still get.
Watch Dogs 2
Destiny 2
Oh, and I left out all the Lego games not named Dimensions - Jurassic World and Marvel Avengers. Though why we need them and Dimensions I don't rightly know.
My PS3 has been collecting dust since I got my PS4 about two months ago. I said I wasn't going to do that but I'm finding it hard to go back.
That said I'm sure a game will come to PS+ that will pull me back to for a little bit.
@freaksloan There is a Hot Shots confirmed for PS4, although Im not sure when. Don't you mean GT7?
Its about time really and most likely other dev's will follow suit soon, well its already happening with COD being this gen only.
I think its too little too late. I dropped AC when a last gen exclusive title in the series launched, after already having the previous entry on current gen systems.
Nah, I'm good.
I still has a huge backlog of PS3 games to clear before moving on
If I upgrade it will NOT be for a Ubisoft game, that is for sure. Specially things like Unity.
Kamiya, Naughty Dog and maybe Arkham Knight will make me upgrade.
I'm kinda with you guys, I'm lucky to have a PS4 bit missed PS3 last gen. Hopefully some uber blockbusters will come out this year.
@Splat This is one reason why I'm holding off from getting a PS4 yet, besides the lack of enough money and it doesn't have everything I want yet.
