Arkane Studios' stealth-'em-up Dishonored was an outstanding game, but we could probably do without a PlayStation 4 remaster. Still, we suppose that Bethesda was never going to be able to resist the re-release money sitting on the table, and so a Brazilian ratings board has seemingly leaked an updated edition of the Dunwall infiltrating escapade.
This is far from a confirmation, of course, but games ratings rarely ever turn out to be fake – even when they're sneaking out of South America. Assuming that this is real, we suspect that we'll be seeing more of it during the aforementioned publisher's E3 press conference – hopefully in addition to information on some kind of in-development sequel.

Wow!! Another last gen remaster!! yaaaaay! o/
Can't say I particularly enjoyed the game, It was OK but didn't grab me so doubt U would bother with a remaster
It's seriously beyond ridiculous and downright lazy from devs at this point. And spare me the bullsh*t excuses.
And I'll be that one guy who keeps buying these "remasters" and giving these publishers a reason to keep pushing them out because I sat out last gen...sorry guys...(actually I wait for the price to drop on them like I have done with the TR reboot and to a certain extent TLOU remastered)
If it heps fund a sequel, I don't really see the problem. I think it's more a perception problem than anything else.
A loved the game so bring it on and if u dont like remasters then dont buy it nobody is forcing you. Some of the best games on ps4 have been remasters
eh we'll see. I understand the anger towards remasters but i don't mind. I've been a PS3 owner but even then there's still games on there I haven't played. Vote with your wallets guys. the only person giving these companies your money is you.
I missed this last generation so I might pick this up.
People throwing a wetty like it's Sony doing these remasters....
@get2sammyb
Yeah, because Bethesda is in the same boat as Capcom financially.... I'm so sick of lines such as 'if it helps fund a sequel,' blah blah blah. Why don't they just remaster every game then. Two years in now, the remasters need to stop. If it's for a game in a series that been dormant or had little interest in it to begin with but the devs want to test the waters to see if maybe there's a market now, fine. But Dishonored was popular, Bethesda has the money just make the damn sequel.
And it is a problem when this far into the gen, the best games are 'remasters' of fairly recent PS3 and Xbox 360 games. And the worst part is some of these are as lazy as it gets like God of War 3 Remastered.
@BLPs
What makes it worse is the same people praising this garbage were killing Nintendo over the Wii U getting games like Mass Effect 3, Darksiders II and Deus Ex in its first year. But it's perfectly fine that in its second full year on the market the best games on PS4 are mostly PS3 games, some that aren't even really upgraded. For me there's been enough to justify the purchase of a PS4, even an X1, but there's still too many of these damn remasters as well and I definitely see the argument from your side of it.
Are games that were available on both ps3/360 worth remastering? For me no not unless its a masterpiece. How about Timesplitters
@xVAKAR1ANx
There's a few early last-gen games that are old enough now that, if we have to go this route, I wouldn't mind seeing remastered or getting a full remake treatment. Mass Effect, eventhough there's a new one in the works, is for all intents and purposes over with Shepard's story, imo. But the first game is still easily my favorite in the series and I wouldn't mind seeing a full on remake or at the very least, a 'remaster' - both with all DLC included of course. If Bioware were to go with a 'remasters' maybe tighten the controls a little. That's a fairly old game, but it's also the last truly great game Bioware made before selling its soul to EA and going Michael Bay with Mass Effect 2 and 3. Neither of those are bad games but the first was an actual RPG the last two were all about action. It was disappointing to see Bioware go for the CoD crowd despite the fact the first was very well liked and sold well.
DMC 4 Special Edition is another remaster I can behind because it's an older game and it's in a series that is kind of up in the air right now as to what kind of future, if it any, it has. There is no question with Dishonored. People like the first a lot, sales numbers were strong, get to work on the sequel. There's really no need for a remaster, just like MK 9 didn't need a remaster and the development team went full steam ahead on MK X and got it to us fairly quickly after its announcement.
@Gamer83 I agree with mass effect because it's a masterpiece. I mean come on my name is Vakarian, I'm not gonna disagree with you there lol
@GraveLordXD Yeah agreed but for me the remasters have been handy givin ppl the chance to play certain games that they missed on the ps3 and they can fill in the gaps between ps4 game releases and the ps4 is still young its not even broke a sweat thus far besides the remasters will fizzle out
@xVAKAR1ANx
Yeah, it was a flawed masterpiece. I wonder if the series would have stayed closer to its RPG roots had EA not gotten its filthy hands on it.
@Gamer83 The bioware creators left and their games will never be the same. As for dishonoured ok sneak em up but the story was terrible.
@get2sammyb As much im on the fence about remasters, i do admit that if it helps fund a sequel, im all for it. that game was great.
That wasn't nice if you want to insult the user base here take it elsewhere please. Thanks -Tasuki-
As much as I loved dishonored, a remake could go without being made. A sequel, yes. In terms of remasters I would buy that haven't been announced, id have to go with skyrim, morrowind, and mass effect trilogy. They could charge me 80$ each for those versions and I might buy a copy for each console (heck, I already bought skyrim a total of 6-8 times between consoles, pc, legendary editions, and gifts, along with 3 copies of me trilogy) I have the games I love, and have no issues buying them on each platform so I can see the subtle differences.
@Sanquine
Except nobody here was accusing Sony of anything. I did mention the pointless, lazy, overpriced remaster of God of War 3, but that's certainly not nagging or throwing a wetty. Just pointing out a fact. If some people have a problem with the truth, that's their own issue. Of course, Sony isn't responsible for what third parties put out. However, I think there would be a lot less of a problem if some of the newer PS4 exclusives outside of Bloodborne and inFamous: Second Son actually delivered and if Naughty Dog could've had Uncharted 4 much earlier. The best PS4 games shouldn't be marginally upgraded PS3 games, sadly that's a problem that exists right now and it's not one that will get better as long as companies, whether it be Sony or a third party, keep remastering sh*t. At least in the case of God of War, we know there's a new one on the way that will probably be shown sometime this year, so the existence of GoW III doesn't bother me as much. If the Dishonored team is working on a remaster when it could be working on Dishonored 2, however, I don't see the point. Yeah, money for Bethesda and minimal work has to be done by the dev team, great for them. As a gamer I want new games. I didn't buy a PS4 to play PS3 games. Fortunately there are third parties who are trying to deliver, and with the amount of studios Sony has, things should improve on the first party front. It's just a shame some companies are still going the lazy route.
If it's a game I like from last gen, any game, I'm just fine with a remaster.
The problem arent the remaster, but the freaking price
How do you justify charging 50-60$ dollars for a remaster ? People should not pay more than $30, and thays pushing it, remaster should be $20.
I mean, its bad enough that these remaster have been subpar, they barely match PC max graphics setting (but with 30fps, because some console gamers told me thar the human eye cant see more than 30fps... ROFL) but you could find most of those with DLC for $15
And that "if it helps fund a sequel" its the laziest excuse ive read, its Bethesda that poor ? No, they arent...
This is brilliant news, love Dishonoured, a remake and a sequel would be magic.
Moaning about remasters is not cool. Its not the hardware maker's fault. Some may be unnecessary but people moaning about a game of this calibur is disappointing in the least.
@Faruko
I think it depends how much content is provided in the remaster and how much work goes into it. If there actually is some effort put into upgrading the game and bunch of DLC packaged in that maybe wasn't packaged with the original release. I'm willing to pay $40. And for a full-blown remake of a game, done right, I'd pay $60. But yeah, not too often are these things done right. To be fair, we don't know what Dishonored remastered will entail yet but it is beyond laughable that with what's in the GoW 3 remaster that Sony is charging $40 but if people will pay that price, then it is what it is. I have a feeling it will drop to $20 not long after release anyway.
@blah01
If the remaster is done by the main team when it could be working on the sequel than complaints are justified because it means waiting longer than necessary for a sequel so that a completely unnecessary remaster of a game - easily accessible for cheaper on other platforms - can be made. I'll wait to see what Bethesda has going on before getting too angry with the company though. If the long overdue Fallout 4 is announced (and hopefully there will be a PS4 version), then Bethesda gets a pass on anything else.
I'd be fed up now if i'd already played most of these remaster's already on ps3 but I havent so i'm not, I understand peoples frustration though.
@Gamer83
Good point....but I would hazard a guess that most teams top devs would be working on something new with the junior guys doing the porting.
Where I work that's usually the case. You're right though, if it's not the case, the company is playing a dangerous game....as remasters may not sell so well.
Loved this game, just don't know if I want to pony up for a PS4 remaster.
Why are people mad about this? It's not like there weren't any PS2 remasters for the PS3, in fact there were loads of them. Why wouldn't you want games to be be the best that they can be? Not everyone plays games when they are released, so if they missed it the first time round, they can play a newer, better version. Doesn't bother me. Maybe it'll come to PS Plus and I'll play it again on PS4.
@Gamer83 I still 2 & 3 are great, 2 is prob my fave though. Need to play 1 again as its been to long
@xVAKAR1ANx
I like 2 and 3 as well, but thought 1 was easily the best. Definitely flawed, but there was still something about it that appealed to me more. I think it was the RPG elements. 2 and 3 didn't really have much RPG to it.
Ahhh ps4, it'll be remembered for having the ps3's library. I thought the whole PC architecture thing was supposed to make it easier for game developers yet all these devs are still using old games as their springboard into ps4/xbone/pc.
At least it's good that more current gen gamers get to play these re-releases for the first time. In the long run though, it isn't going to help distinguish this gen from last. Even the new games are just tweaked versions of old conventions.
"We'll make more money off of remasters than actual new games!"
I'm all for remasters of great games, but I don't think Dishonored is one of them. I felt that it was really overrated, but having said that, I'm absolutely awful at stealth games, so that's probably why it never clicked.
@Wesker
The vast majority of remasters last-gen came out at the end of PS3's and 360's run as the main consoles. At the end of the gen, when a game like Dishonored is much older, has already had a sequel or two and devs are looking for some extra cash before moving into the next-gen that's fine. I didn't buy a PS4 on launch day to spend the first 3 years replaying the PS3 library. Fortunately the situation isn't that bad, but it's still a bit ridiculous the amount of 'remasters' and many are entirely unneeded. This will be one of them.
I dont mind remasters of games i missed in the previous gen. I dont mind paying for them either. People moan about the price and say you can pick it up for such and such a price. Yes thats all good if you keep your previous gen machines. I dont, so to buy the older version would cost me alot more as i would have to buy the console also. Remasters will appeal to different people for different reasons. There isnt a right or wrong answer.
I think what we want is newer IP, I bought both tlou, gta v and final fantasy 10 hd so I'm maybe part of the problem. But whilst on the subject I think we all would pay big money for a ff7 remake.
Wow. Ps4 library is pretty much Ps3 remasters looks at Ps4 games on the shelf. Doesn't have any remasters Damn. I must be missing out
If Bathesda want a money spinner maybe they should remaster the Elder Scrolls and give us an anthology boxset. A Fallout boxset would also sell in droves.
Maybe I'll get Dishonored if its an actual remaster and not just a port. I never did finish it lastgen. Trouble is, we just got this in last months Instant Game Collection through PlayStation Plus.
@Gamer83 I look at remasters more like at multiplatform. So have no issues with them. One console more, one console less, who cares.
@MadchesterManc You're buying the wrong games mate. Why would you buy this year's Bloodborne, MK10, or Dying Light when you could have got DMC, Borderlands 2 and Dark Souls 2? If they bring out remasters of PS3 games that means that you can't buy fresh PS4 games, because PS4 is all about the remakes, didn't you hear?
Bloodborne, Project Cars, Helldivers just three games off the top of my head that are AWESOME games and not remasters. Then again I don't mind The Last of Us, Diablo 3 nor Resident Evil Remasters. It's not like most remasters are done by the core team, oftentimes it's outsourced and not blocking any ressources working towards an original new IP or a proper sequel so I don't know what all the fuss is about, stuff like the MOVIE reboots bother me much much more, especially since in most cases it's absolutely not necessary. A bad movie will always stay a bad movie and timeless classics shouldn't be touched. End of story.
You've been here a long time, you know to please watch the language. This the the second time I have had to say something. :/ -Tasuki-
More choice is more choice, no one is forcing those games onto you. calm down.
I do have to say one thing in the argument for remasters. In an age where so many studios are going bankrupt or just closing its doors because of how expensive games development has become I feel remasters are a necessary evil. At the very least it helps devs make the leap to next-gen and pay for future projects and if we get some quality games in the process, its only good for us.
Remember, you don't have to purchase remasters, buts its nice to have some classics to play on our new system. Its not like we're going to get PS3 emulation anytime soon.
@Gamer83 I'm pretty sure Arkane wouldn't be handling the remaster, you'd be surprised how many developers are out there who just work exclusively on ports (which is pretty much what a lot of these remasters are) Bluepoint games comes to mind. I'm sure Arkane are working on a sequel.
Why am I not surprised I might get it when its a tenner or so.
No thanks, I'm content playing the original version that we just got for free on Plus not too long ago.
What people don't get is all these games coming too the PS4 shows you how healthy the platform is, if the PS4 wasn't selling so good just like the Wii U it would come to a full stop. Also just like others have pointed out, remasters are usually sourced out to another dev team to do.
At this point it's looking like the entire PS3/360 library will be ported to current systems by the time this generation is over.
Anything that gives game programmers a job is good news, especially since these ports/remasters are often done by smaller studios.
I found this game extremely boring. Am I the only one?
I don't see the problem. It allows new players to jump on board and can provide additional money for the studio to develop a sequel. It doesn't take up the resources of the dev team either as they're nearly always outsourced
