We all love PlayStation here at Push Square Towers, but we have a soft spot for SEGA's systems of old, too. Growing up in the UK, both the Master System and the Mega Drive were arguably more popular than their Nintendo rivals – and while we'll gleefully admit that the Saturn deserved to get trounced by the PSone, the Dreamcast certainly didn't warrant such a cruel fate.
It's gutting, then, to see the state of the company today, with the likes of Football Manager among its most important properties right now. We're probably missing something, but Yakuza 5 – a release being localised by Sony's third-party productions team – is pretty much the only Western PlayStation game that we can think of that's in the pipeline. An Alien Isolation sequel is likely, while there are rumours regarding a new-gen Sonic – but nothing else is jumping out.
It's no surprise, then, that the publisher is skipping this year's E3, opting to demo its wares with partners such as Sony. This means that for the first time since 1995, there'll be no dedicated SEGA presence on the showfloor at all; you may want to cross Shenmue III off your predictions list. We understand the organisation's decision, but it's just sad to see the company slump like this. End of an era, indeed.

you know I still love booting up my old Megadrive and having a blast on Sonic 2
I miss those times, gaming was a lot less complicated back then
Darn shape regarding what has become of them. I wouldn't be surprised at all if next year's Sonic birthday game is a Sonic Generations remaster.
I feel like I'm the only one who liked the Sonic Adventure games. I'd happily play another one of those to be honest.
@get2sammyb I loved those, 2nd was the best though
@get2sammyb
The first Sonic Adventure is great, 2... not so much.
Sega what Nintendon't...
This is sad indeed. Game Gear was my first console way back in the 90's. I also had a Mega Drive. Loved Sonic, Outrun et al. It was cool however PlayStation became better with all those games from Japan.
I am still a huge SEGA fan. I actually believed the rumor some years ago that they would release a new console (a pc-box somewhat similar to xbox or a sized down arcade). I tried to support them with my precious euros many times. I have every Mega Drive or Sonic Collection ever released (PS3,PSP even Steam although I am not a PC gamer or I will ever be).
after the failure of sonic boom sega said they will mostly retire from console market, so it is totally logical they will skip the e3, sad indeed.
such sad news . check http://www.1up.com/news/day-history-sega-announces-suprise
twenty years now
where'd they go ?
twenty years
i don't know
i sit and wonder sometimes
where they've gone
(bob sega "like a rock")
(,,,i'm going to cry now)
With IPs like streets of rage, sonic, shinobi, shenmue, outrun, afterburner and shining force how did this happen? Bad Sega.
@themcnoisy : playStation happened
I love the Sonic Adventure games too. Still have them on Dreamcast. But this is just sad with Sega. I'll still support them the best I can. I'm picking up Yakuza 5, and I guess I'll get Streets of Rage 2 when it hits the 3DS. Even though I already have it for Wii VC and the whole trilogy on 360.
Darn, double post. Sorry about that.
Don't Sega own Atlus now? in that case my most anticipated game, Persona 5 is a SEGA game
@eliotgballade Sega should pump new versions of streets of rage (2.5d life sf4) and Shenmue to ps4. Instant classics and 20 million in sales at least.
Love the Genesis and the Dreamcast!When I look back on Sega's games for the DC, most of 'em have a distinctly arcade-y feel to them, and gamers nowadays seem to be into FPS, grind-for-years games, and quirky indie releases. Sega could definitely do retro-style re-imaginings or even updates of old classics--but it seems like their decision makers are stuck in Japan and not up and about in the US or Europe, so they're missing their opportunities. Seriously, if Sega would do a grassroots-indie kickstarter-type route with a push for a new Shenmue or a retro Golden Axe or a new Phantasy Star, I'd bet lots of folks would support it and throw their seed money at Sega.
I always rooted for Sega when they were the underdog--the scrappy competition for Nintendo, making daring games and not resting on their Sonic-laurels. Bring back that Sega company and that spirit, and they will have more supporters than they'll know what to do with.
@DualWielding oh my... that's concerning... lets hope P5 is overwhelmingly success, or SEGA might close its door as well...
@BLPs I don't know if I can post the page, but it was big surprise back in january, http://www.vg247.com/2015/01/30/300-staff-offered-voluntary-retirement-as-sega-focuses-on-mobile-and-online-pc-games/
@jayclayx 😲 Bye Sega you have been mismanaged into the ground like Woolworths. @BLPs dya fancy making a streets of rage game? Your our last hope.
