Ratchet & Clank's long awaited PlayStation 4 debut was pushed into 2016 overnight, where it'll join fellow exclusive Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Bloodborne proved earlier in the year that Sony's still got a knack [Pun unintended – Ed] for putting out quality software, but with very few other first-party titles in the platform holder's pipeline, many are pondering whether it's going to deliver anything of note this holiday.
"I won't go into any detail now," SCEUK boss Fergal Gara told MCV. "There is plenty for gamers to get excited about already, such as Tearaway Unfolded and No Man's Sky. That's just the start of what's on the table right now. So, I don't have any concerns that we will have a lack of strong software for PS4 this peak."
Quizzed on why so many games are getting delayed, Gara said that it's likely due to studios getting to grips with the new hardware. "My sense is that the new platforms have opened up the ambitions of developers and the capabilities of what they can achieve," the affable executive pondered. "What has then happened since has been a bit of rushing to market and a couple of not perfect launches. That's perhaps driven some conservatism."
He concluded: "The good news is that the ability to stick to time lines will improve as people get experience of the hardware under their belts. I have been hearing stories from around the industry that give me assurance that developers have got a better grasp on things, so we will be in increasingly good shape."
To be honest, we reckon that it's too early to be having conversations like this. While we have our own reservations about Sony's big E3 showing next month – we'll discuss that in more detail in a future article – we don't think that it's right to be writing off the manufacturer's entire lineup until we've seen its full hand. Remember, the organisation still has several studios openly working on projects that we haven't even seen yet. It's going to be fine.

E3 is around the corner, huh?
Star Wars Battlefront themed PS4 please!
@Punished_Boss_84 - I think that photo is for you.
The fact that somebody at Sony felt the need to address the issue means there is a problem, its that simple. Nobody ever addresses non-problems.
I am however looking forward to what Media Molecule ad to say at E3. Been looking forward to that marionette game for I think 2 years now.
Does anybody else feel like No Man's Sky released a year ago? The Last Guardian gets more attention.
They said the same thing for last holiday and the holiday before that. And we see how that turned out.
@rjejr He addressed it 'cos he was asked about it. But yeah, I think it's going to be all third-party this Christmas tbh.
@get2sammyb - So, price drop for the holidays?
Though I guess we should save that discussion until after E3. Who knows, maybe they'll even drop the price AT E3.
(Wonder which price drops first, the really hot selling PS4 or the can't give it away Wii U? Nintendo has no comprehension of sales, price drops, discounts, nada)
I can't say I am excited by Tearaway or No Mans Sky - Neither of which are on my wanted list. No Mans Sky does show some potential and has an interesting concept but at best its a 'maybe'. Tearaway though is almost certainly not going to be bought by me.
Neither of these have the console selling potential of Uncharted 4 would have in the run into Christmas. I know there are other big games releasing and maybe Sony have a surprise or 2 up their sleeves but as far as 'exclusives' go, the next one I really want is not releasing until 2016. Until Dawn has an interesting concept and potential but could be a clichéd disappointment and Hellblade is high up on my watch list but until I see/hear more, its likely to stay on my watch list.
Good job there are a lot of 3rd Party games releasing before Christmas and Uncharted to play in 2016 after I have completed these.
Games such as a re-release of a Vita game and an indie game that I really doubt will be ready (and working) by this holiday.
Unless No Man's Sky has a heavy online component where they'll add these quintillion planets over time (kind of like an early access game), I dont see how they'll release something that isnt a buggy mess with a ridiculous install size.
@get2sammyb
With referring to No Man's Sky and Tearaway he clearly gave the signal we indeed should be worried for this year. I still had hopes that they would sweep me off my feet with a great showing at e3 and some games that would release this year, but not once has someone at Sony said: "just wait till e3", when asked about their game shortage.
If Sony had anything in the pipeline I'm sure they would've told us to wait for E3 by now, but this seems to be another fall where Sony isn't delivering on promises. How on earth this console managed to sell so much is truly beyond me; you're not paying for a great console, but for the promise of a great console.
It took a while for the Wii U and 3DS to start getting the goodies out, so I'm still not too worried...they are still the system of choice and as long as people know the games are coming, they'll still get excited. Other than that, I think that they'll still have some things up their sleeves. They announced that a Hot Shots Golf was in the works for PS4, and maybe it's coming out this year, or even a new Gran Truismo. I'm sure that they've been working on more than just a few games...there's still no mention of a new Sly Cooper either, so who knows what they have up their sleeves.
@get2sammyb They may still have more up their sleeves that they're waiting to announce.
No mans sky. Good enough for me. Lets hope it really is something special.
I hope they show something interesting at E3, because right now this is the very definition of resting in their laurels.
@rjejr The best we can hope for with the Wii U is an awesome holiday bundle deal...otherwise I don't see the console ever dropping below $300 New.
As for the 3DS, I'm sure we'll see a price drop to $130 New eventually, we just have to wait for the next Nintendo handheld to be announced .
If we get Fallout 4 this fall and No Man's Sky my Xmas will be complete. Im still interested to see what Sony has to offer but I won't be to concerned if we get the games Im keeping my fingers crossed for.
@rjejr
Yes, well you can't witness several delays and not mention it. Even non issues are addressed.
Never buy a console for a promised lineup, unrealistic expectations in said lineup or previous expectations on past lineup.
