The Last of Us: Left Behind served up an affecting slice of single player content that extended the core campaign of Naughty Dog's survival horror opus. But if you never played the main adventure, and are keen to see what all of the fuss is about, Sony's breaking out the DLC and re-releasing it as a standalone product. Think inFAMOUS: First Light without the superpowers – and a bit more John Green.
The standalone title will be available on both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 3 from 12th May in North America and 13th May in Europe. It'll cost $9.99/£7.99, and will come with a two hour trial for the excellent Factions multiplayer mode. You'll also be able to upgrade to the full game via various additional microtransactions. And if you're still not convinced that this is for you – well, read our review.

But before you start Left Behind it warns of plot spoilers for the main game and recommends playing The Last of Us first. Anyone that owns a PS3 or PS4 owes it to themselves to pick The Last of Us up and play through it, atleast once.
@WARDIE I agree with you.
@get2sammyb They probably thought the following "people want more AAA titles for plus, but what should we gove them? What about the last of us... no too big and good selling. You know what we release left behind as a standalone title and release is for plus on a later date!"
Watch my words, left behind is coming to plus.
Isn't this included in the Remastered PS4 version of the Last of Us? It would make more sense to buy that rather than buy this as a Stand Alone - especially if it contains plot spoilers. I also hear they are planning to release a 'stand alone' Full Factions MP that is a 2hr trial in this Stand Alone.
To quote 'Also included will be a two hour trial of the Factions Multiplayer mode. You will be able to upgrade to the full version of the multiplayer for a price after you own the standalone version.
On PS4, upgrading from the standalone to the full Factions Multiplayer costs $10 / £8 / €10. Upgrading to the full single player game, including the multiplayer and an extra map pack will cost $40 / £29 / €35.'
It's a cool idea I suppose I'm not sure how well it'll sell on its own but the pricing is fair and the story is great on its own merits
The fact that this game add-on exists is the only reason I dont think Ellie in Last of Us is a figment of Joels imagination. The whole game is playing out like the Henry Winkler - Sally Field - Harrison Ford Vietnam era 1977 movie "Heroes" about a guy taking a Greyhound house cross country to start a worm farm in Eureka, CA. If the game ends w/ Kansas' "Carry On" at the end I wouldnt be surprised.
Im 82% done, I left Ellie to sleep in some rain drain run off pipe at 2:30AM this morning in a snow covered town. I'm over 22 hours in on a game Ive read was 10-12 hours long. And Im playing on easy.
So hopefully this weekend I can finish up, then I can play this.
Carry on my wayward son,
There'll be peace when you are done,
Lay you're weary head to rest,
Don't you cry no more.
The initial game kept me around but that dlc was really boring was there a demand for a physical version of this?
@rjejr Took me ages as well, but loved 95% of it, apart from the shootout were hoards of enemies are attacking elle and some odd guy. It just didn't sit right with me. Kind of see were you are going with the figment of imagination, but he's too steadfast and stoic to have the surroundings affect his mental capacity.
Cool, a friend lent me the Last of Us back when it launched for PS3 and I always wanted to try out the DLC, so this will do just fine without having to buy DLC of a game that I don't own.
Not right bothered about this because I picked up the remastered version for £18 on the psn sale at easter. Started playing the main game today been playing around 5 hours straight really good so far.
@themcnoisy - Finished it last night, those 2 scenes you mention yesterday afternoon fornutnatley as I was then able to finish the last 3 1/2 hours last night. "That odd guy" was 1 of my worst gaming experiences ever. The scene before it sucked as well, but I'd forgotten as the 2nd 1 is so much worse. "Easy" my @ss.
@rjejr once you learn how the mechanics work fully the last of us isn't all too difficult but anyone who says it's "easy" is lying lol
@LAdrew87 - "anyone who says it's "easy" is lying"
Well it was on "easy" mode. There were a lot of times in the game where I died once, adn I knew it was there b/c ND was trying to prove a point, and I didn't mind those so much, as Ijust knew what to do the next time. It was the few instances where I died 5 or 6 times that bothered me. The worst part tough was absolutely the lack of save even though I was constantly saving the game. When you play on "Easy" mode, and you kill 4 of 5 enemies, then save the game, when the last 1 kills you then you should NOT have to kill the first 4 over again. I HATE that. Don't let me "Save" the game if it isn't going to "Save" anything. Near the end I killed 10 of 11 enemeies, last 1 killed me, had to replay the hwole scene again, took me about an hour. If I wanted to replay that part for an hour I would play on "normal", not easy.
I really can't imagine how anyone can get thru that game on "Normal". Damn bloaters just won't die.
@rjejr not bragging at all I felt your pain the first time I played and I did easy too. They definitely don't hold your hand and make you learn how everything works on your own. Saying that, I've beaten it on normal and twice on hard lol going for survivor next. Last Of Us is really fun once you get it down trust me. There are those couple frustrating parts like you mentioned I agree. Most of the time I just stealth by the bloaters. Stealth is king in that game. The run and gun approach is possible but hardly works until you make it to new game plus. Make sure to keep upgrading Joel's supplements and weapons as often as possible and always thoroughly search every environment you never know what you'll find. That's the name of the game
Amazing game! The DLC is even better!
I'm angry with ND for selling out though... This was always marketed to be played ONLY AFTER you've finished the main game. There's things you learn about some of the characters in 'Left Behind' that truly affect the main game! Shame!
