You'll need to set aside a bit of time before booting up Batman: Arkham Knight on the PlayStation 4 next week, as the game will launch alongside a hefty day one patch. Weighing in at around 3.5GB, the v1.01 update lists improved performance and stability fixes among its most notable tweaks. However, there are a few new features, too β including a skin based on the original Batsuit.
These tweaks may be welcome, but according to a Digital Foundry hands-on with debug code β presumably lacking the day one patch β this title already runs like butter, sitting at a silky smooth 30 frames-per-second even under intense pressure. There are very rare drops according to the site, but it sounds like Rocksteady has served up something of a technical tour-de-force here.

Couldn't they have fixed that before printing the disc??!!
You would think that performance issues would be fixed before going gold. At most a glitch or 2 in a big open world would be the most required to patch. I appreciate its difficult to find every glitch in a big open world and as millions start to play, some more may become apparent but performance issues are a bit ridiculous. Its not like this hasn't had 8 months more than originally planned either...
I guess its a 'Riddler' as to why this wasn't fixed before but I guess that's the 'Bane' of the industry
Still can't wait until Tuesday...
I'm not bashing the game itself but I personally prefer not to be a guinea pig finding these glitches for them if I pay 60+ bucks. Fortunately this game doesn't even seem to be anywhere near broken unlike some other game released recently. So I guess it's nice they are trying to fix even the smallest glitches.
Silky smooth... 30... fps? Bahahaha oh man that was a good one lol
Yet another current gen unfinished garbage that needs a day one patch, if it's day one, hold another week and actually put out a finished game, if this continues, this is the worst generation by far, as I don't think there's been a this generation game without a day one patch or maybe a little later in order to make game feel like you spent your 65 bucks was worth it, horrible
@mitcHELLspawn oh for god sake shut up!! Go read a fantasy book or play with your self professed super PC.
What a negative person you are. A PC nerd, i'd say.
@mitcHELLspawn why are you here?
@Riririn Its probably cause they couldn't fit it on the disk. Blu rays have a 50gb capacity.
What happen to people like me, who dont have access to good network connections ?
@goonow That's why they make day 1 DLC? UGH.
@SeahorseLegs
You obviously have no clue how game design works.
I get tired of the whole "Day 1 _ is horrible aaaaaagh!!" logic. Guys, it's a patch. It's a bug fix. BUG FIX GOOD! Do you understand now? They increase stability. This is a good thing.
It's important to bear in mind that if the developers COULD HAVE released this on the disc, they would have! This is a pretty big bug fix, and there's a limit to how much they can cram onto a single blu-ray. More importantly, people have no idea how long it takes for a game to get released. Once a game goes gold, closing production, disc making, shipping, stocking, etc.. all take place. During this time the devs have nothing to do but plan for their next game or look for bugs to squash. Being that Rocksteady is a studio that only works on one game at a time, they went through the game with a fine tooth comb looking for things to improve. It's not as simple as "waiting a week". People need to realize this before they fire off dyslexic posts that whine about things they don't understand. The game has been in development for almost 4 years now. If they could have fixed every bug before release, they would have done so. Also people need to read the article more clearly. It doesn't just fix bugs it also adds to the game, the article plainly mentions a batman skin. Calm down.
For those who are unaware, here is what the patch actually does:
Improved Performance
Stability Fixes
New feature: Rival Points
New feature: Original Batsuit skin available to select
Support for "A Matter Of Family" additional content
General gameplay, graphical, audio, UI, and localization fixes
This is a good thing. Get a grip. Sometimes I think gamers just look for things to get outraged about.
@Riririn
DLC's not even relevant to this article. There's a difference between Day 1 DLC on the disc and Day 1 DLC that needs to be downloaded, it sounds like you're confusing the two. Also you're not being a guinea pig, just download the patch. If anyone should complain it should be those who don't have stable connections like @brendon987 stated. I have a metered internet so I can't download this patch until midnight without using my data limit, and I'm not really complaining.
@mitcHELLspawn
Not a PC gamer but eh... he kinda has a point. It does seem a bit weird to refer to 30 FPS as being smooth. I doubt anyone would notice though, this isn't really a first person shooter so the differences in framerate with a game of this type would likely be negligible. All the videos I've seen for it looked smooth.
Wow. Yeah. You got me. I have nothing more to say. I've been sitting here for 20 minutes trying to think of smart things to say but then I remembered winning arguments on the internet doesn't win you any trophies so YEAH I give up. Let's all succumb to the all mighty game developers and download our hard drives full of updates. Nanananananananana BATMAN!
All I can say is at least PS4 loads this stuff up quickly.
cant wait to play this game, loved the first two!
