Ten hours after appearing during PlayStation's big E3 2015 press conference in dramatic fashion, Shenmue III has hit its funding target. The game – which will now launch on the PlayStation 4 and PC – smashed all sorts of records, racing to its $2 million target faster than any other title in history. Let's hope that the funders don't... Change their mind.
The financing drive means that one of the most demanded sequels of all time will now get made. Following on from the events of Shenmue II, the title will take place in China during the 80s, and will see you searching for Lan-Di – the antagonist who killed protagonist Ryo Hazuki's father at the start of the very first game.
There are still tons of stretch goals to meet, including subtitles for various languages – and additional minigames. And with over 30 days still to go, we suspect that this may end up breaking a few more records by the time that it's done. Have you backed Yu Suzuki's long overdue project yet? Get sweaty in the comments section below.

I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
1st kick starter I ever backed. Couldn't be happier, plus the game for 29 ain't too shabby
It's was always a matter of when, not if.
Shenmue 3.
I can't imagine how high the goal would have had to have been for them not to make it.
never played this game. Can someone tell me why everyone asking for the 3rd? Like what so good about it? humble question.
Finally
@whywai88 The original two games were ahead of their time. It did sandbox gaming before Grand Theft Auto III, and, unlike so many games of the era, it felt like you were engaging with a real, living world. The narrative was also ridiculously ambitious, and was left on a cliffhanger at the end of the second game.
" this is cool ! "
@get2sammyb you think this is gonna beat bloodstained kickstarter
in all honesty I don't even know what this franchise is
@SKC_Diamond this is going to trample all over those records that Bloodstained just set. It's got to be one of the most requested videogames of all time, perhaps second only to all the requests for a FFVII remake. Now, if only we could get one of them........oh, wait!
@SKC_Diamond Yeah, as @SteveButler2210 said, this is going to destroy Bloodstained.
I believe it may needs another 6 to 12 million dollars to reach the full stretch target not too sure, well they got my 300 dollars, waited too too long
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Good man!
Woo-hoo!
You are now an official backer of Shenmue 3.
I had to back this game!
Hey @Sinalefa where yo been buddy? Isn't this the one you've been waiting for?
@Clay_Davis83 is that a physical release? If so count me in for £29.
@themcnoisy only digital for PS4, no physical release is planned except for PC
@themcnoisy digital release for PC or PS4. Physical copy (PC only) is at the $60 buy in. Sorry I should mention it is $. If it ends op being a full $60 release (which is probably will be) it's worth it to buy in now.
@themcnoisy Oh and it is $29 so about £19 for the digital copy. Bargain.
@Clay_Davis83 Haha snap!
@Mrskinner haha nothing wrong with a bit of reiteration! good timing
This years E3 is just full of miracles, eh?
29,883

$2,385,171

days to go
Has to be biggest kick starter of all time coming??
@rjejr
Hey you got your Last Guardian and I got my Shenmue while @JaxonH is happy with FFVII remake.
Too bad mine is a KS so very much in the air. $2 mil is nothing for a game so big so I have my doubts. Stretch goals are meh too. But better than nothing I guess.
@sinalefa - Jaxon is always happy. He just is. It's what makes him Jax.
And I'm more excited abut the FF7 remake than anybody else is about anything. It's my krptonite.
I do hope nobody is hoping for a hundred hour epic, this is gonna be 10-20 hours max
