A niche bit of news for you here, but interesting nonetheless: Sony will begin manufacturing the PlayStation 4 in Brazil, in an effort to bring prices down. Previously, the platform retailed for a ridiculous $1,850 – a figure that even the Japanese giant admitted was outrageous. But it did stress that it was committed to getting costs down, and it announced plans to do that during E3 2015.
Speaking at Sony's annual Latin America conference, the organisation revealed a partnership with Flextronics – a local manufacturer which it hopes will bring prices down. It hasn't announced a new figure just yet, but the natively constructed consoles will apparently go on sale in October, so we should learn more soon.
"Over the past two years, we hear what Brazilians called for," said Anderson Gracias, the head of the PlayStation division in Brazil. "They wanted a fair price for the console. And with that, we announced the domestic manufacturing." Sony clearly sees South America as a real growth territory, so this is important news. Exactly how important will depend on that revised RRP, however.

I already imported mine, so I'm good
@Heiki Hah! Don't blame you!
@get2sammyb Well, at least I hope Microsoft can find some competition now. Xbox One is ridiculously cheap here. You can find it for about 500 US Dollars. And yes, that's cheap for Brazilian standards. As long as we have a corrupt government that keeps robbing people of their money, nothing is likely to change.
Too bad i won't take advantage of the price drop, i'll buy my PS4 around the time for MGSV, paying around 2k along with the game.
I think it might be too late. Many people are already jail breaking their consoles and "stealing" the games from PSN. But for those who don't wanna be illegal and still has some extra cash to spare this is probably great news.
