This is going to be controversial. Activision has revealed the extent of Destiny's partnership with energy drink Red Bull, and it goes further than your usual branded armour and in-game guff. Those of you that pick up specially marked cans in the United States will instead nab XP boosts, which will increase your experience intake by 50 per cent for a 30 minute period. Drink to win, then, eh?
The codes will be redeemable from 1st July, while sets of the sugary soda will come with access to an additional quest which promises to "test the speed and strategic abilities of Destiny players in new ways". This will be exclusive to packs of the popular pop through 15th September until 31st December this year, when it'll presumably be opened up to everyone thereafter.
One would assume that this is going to go down like a warm soft drink among fans, as Bungie's sci-fi shooter has already come under fire for its controversial timed exclusive DLC on the PlayStation 4. Do these kinds of promotions convince you to drink more of a specific brand of soda in the first place – or are both companies wasting their time and money? Too far!
Not a bad idea for the companies, as SOME games are dumb enough to buy both of these products, it's a win for Red Bull for sure, now 16 year old will be overdosing on this stuff to boost the level💥
Pretty speechless, I stopped playing the game after the first couple of weeks as it seemed so empty of content. I haven't fallen into the trap of buying their expensive DLC to give me a full game, I got out early. This is dreadful for gamers. What next only half a game unless you buy doritos and dip every week. I'll avoid any game with these cheap marketing tricks aimed at lining their pockets and fleecing the gullible and easily impressionable gamers. Rant over sorry just flat out disgusted.
I hate Red Bull lol
Techland getting in on some of that action.

Haha I think it's pretty good actually. 30 minute XP boost ain't exactly a game changer.
And I don't mind a very occasional can of the stuff, think one of my first cans was the day I picked up FF9 after school, played that till 4am with a redbull to keep me going. Must have been 13 or 14. Bit of a tradition of mine when a good game comes out now, redbull and a pizza (I eat plenty of veg too, promise!!)
I was lead to believe wax idols were made of wax. Is there wax in red bull?
Putting this game to bed (after the weekend raid time) as its class but I dont want a bunch of dosed up screamagers beating me in pvp.
@themcnoisy This weekend is the last time you'll play Destiny?
@SeahorseLegs I usually play Destiny on a Friday night with some friends. As some work late it's usually about 11 when we start, and since I've frequently been awake since 5am I do have energy drinks to keep me from getting sluggish.
So yeah, some gamers are dumb enough.
As far as the promotion itself, it's harmless. Xp isn't going to me much use to anyone above level 20, and an extra mission is nice and all, but probably won't be much good.
@Johnnycide You play Destiny, casually, on Friday after a busy week with your friends for fun? And you might have an energy drink to go with it? You do realise you're everything that's wrong with gaming, don't you? What are you, some kind of monster?
@kyleforrester87 yep! That's me! Pure evil. Sometimes we even help lower level players get loot. We're worse than those gangs you have in scary areas.
@kyleforrester87 I'm keeping it for a while, not getting taken king unless it gets a 9 or 10 out of 10. There's too many great games around and coming soon and its clear stuffs been held back for the next expansion which is frustrating. But it will still be in my collection.
Red Bull is worst than drinking alcohol. Tho both can ruin your health if you don't watch it. I remember boys back in elementary school who drank this poison, before they restricted it so only people above the age of 15 can buy it, or any energy drink for that matter. I don't see this helping them get the game's rep back.
@Riririn In fairness there is only as much caffeine in a Red Bull as their is in your average cup of coffee, sometimes even less. Plenty of sugar though, which is the main problem. Everything in moderation eh!
Also worth noting that these cans are exclusive to 7-11 stores. So not only are they US exclusive, they are very, very regionally exclusive as well.
The nearest 7-11 is 107 miles from my house.
Do you even need the XP boost if you're drinking Redbull? You could probably stay up all night to level up your character. lol
