Well, here's one of your E3 announcements outed early. The always eagle-eyed editors over at DualShockers have uncovered certification documents for two updated PlayStation 4 models – and one of these includes a 1TB hard-drive. With storage space at a premium on Sony's new-gen system, a roomier unit always seemed likely at some point down the line.
The publication actually uncovered two documents, but the first pertains to the existing 500GB SKU with some minor changes to its internal components. This is likely just a case of the manufacturer swapping out parts in order to bring down costs, which is something that it said it would do during its recent Investors Day financial briefing.
The second listing is much more interesting, though, with that beefier hard-drive explicitly mentioned. Of course, the big question here is: what does it do about pricing? It would appear that it intends to have two active SKUs moving forwards, so will the 1TB model occupy the system's existing $399 price bracket, while the 500GB plumps up for a cheaper MSRP?
We'll almost certainly find out at E3.

If only we could have 2 PS4's on our account, then I could buy the 1TB model for my home and put my 500GB model in my 2nd residence.
@Vorlon I thought you could? Only one primary system but that shouldn't really make a whole lot of difference?
@Vorlon Yeah, @SteveButler2210 is correct. You can have two consoles on your account. One will be primary, but it should still work fine.
OK, so you can download and play your games on 2 PS4, but it's only other accounts, like my children, that can't play my games on the second PS4? Because when my son got his own PS4 and made that his primary system, I could not play the DLC bought on his account any more on my PS4.
Yeah, i got one downstairs and one upstairs for when the other half is engulfed in her soaps. I've found no problems with using the same account on both consoles and you can switch primary accounts depending on which system you are on if you really wanted to.
1TB for $399.99 and the 500GB SKU for $350 - which is awesome!
1TB Should now be standard and have the same RRP as the old console.
They should ditch the 500Gb 5400 rpm and include a 1TB SSHD as standard even if it is slightly more costly. Would be another nice selling point over X1.
@Dodoo They should just offer Hard Drive free models and you can put in whatever you want.
@Warruz Yeah that's a very cool idea...
White 1TB for $399 and you got a deal.
500 GB's is nothing this gen... I knew after a week of owning my PS4 that I was going to have to upgrade. I went with 2 TB's and loving it.
2TB here myself. Bought on amazon for £70 3 months ago. Took 10 mins to install. Anybody could do it. Went to PSN put all games on download list and put ps4 into rest mode. Went to work. Came back from work. Job done. Painless. Far better than previous HDD replacements on other consoles.
Please announce external hard drive support at e3, Sony!
Well, this is nice. I'll probably still update to a 2 TB drive though. Space is everything.
Nice move by SONY, well if they don't increase the PS4's price that is
@Vorlon @A1RB4G I have mine set as my Primary console and when someone else logs into their PS4 as me (my brother, my friends)..it logs me out and tells me I'm logged in using another PS4.
So I personally don't think 2 PS4s can be logged in using the same PSN account. However, anyone can log into your Primary PS4 and play the games you've downloaded on their account whilst you use the other one.
Hope that makes sense.
PS4 needs more Cloud storage as well.
@milero91 total sense, it keeps my nephews quiet when they come visit. One will use my account whilst the other will use my brothers account.
Upgraded to 2TB, never looked back. Slapped the stock 500GB I removed from the PS4 in a shell casing and used to expand my Xbox One to 1TB. Grabbed a 500GB external and expanded Wii U to 532GB, and have a 32GB memcard in both my New3DS and Vita.
Storage space is a must.
@JaxonH
What, no 64GB memory card for your PS Vita?
@Grockumus
Actually, I do have a 64gb now that you mention it. Idk why I typed 32gb... Had to import that sucker from Japan.
Thank you for reminding me
Vita card filled up quicker than I thought it would. I had originally went with 32 and thought I'd be good, but with those PSP downloads and indie games and 1gb updates (looking at you Killzone Mercenaries) it didn't take long to top it off
@Vorlon What I would do is make the PS4 your children plays on your primary counsel and PS4 you play on their primary console. So, you can play all your games and theirs and they would be able to play all their games and yours.
Just remember to make sure everyone's account restores their licenses every now and than via PS4's setting/account management menu.
thats great and all except what about us 500gb PS4 owners? What they really need to do is finally add external hard drive support. with USB 3.0 on the PS4, it should be easy to use a USB hdd no? Because that would be a welcome addition to current owners.
I'll probably buy the 1TB model if it's also $400, assuming the 500GB doesn't have a sudden price drop to $300-$350.
After that though, might consider buying a 2TB Internal, despite the limited choices for 2TB 2.5 inch HDDs.
