Remember when Sony wanted the world to wear 3D glasses? Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception was one of its big Bravia pushes, but now that we live in an age where stereoscopic sets are frowned upon, the forgotten functionality won't be making a return in the just-announced Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. "No 3D support, no," community manager Eric Monacelli said conclusively on the PlayStation Blog.
The trilogy will also be relinquished of the multiplayer components that came bundled with the latter two titles in the series. "We didn't want to fracture the current player pool and community," the aforementioned executive explained unconvincingly. More likely is that bringing the online modes across would have cost more money – and with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End around the corner, it probably wants its fans to gravitate towards that.
Still, as long as you're cool with traditional TVs and three of the best single player campaigns of the previous generation, then you should be well serviced here. Well, when you put it like that...

honestly without the multiplayer i wont pay more than £24.99 for this.
And my original comment still stands, this ain't worth £40 especially without the multiplayer.
When it gets for $40 I will buy, $60 is way too much for just a remaster but I'm happy that 3D is fading way because I really don't like it, I almost never play my 3DS with 3D on and the 3D with glasses even on film is really a bad gimmick.
Dang. I actually dig 3d
While I'm not saying anyone's wrong for wanting multiplayer, it is funny how we've gone full circle. I remember when the MP was first announced for Uncharted 2, and people were up in arms about it.
I don't agree with the comments above. I would happily pay £40 for an Uncharted collection as you're getting 3 top games. Day one purchase for me.
@get2sammyb Not always the same people complaining about each thing though. Plus UC2 MP rocked and 3 was also quite fun had some fun maps like the plane one.
I think all these decisions are wise. I'm just happy that Uncharted is back. It's one of the few games, actually maybe the only game, where I care about the characters.
When they charge $40 - $50 for one GoW game that seems to look worse than its PS3 counterpart, there's no doubt in my mind this game will be full price at launch. Still, although I really dislike remasters, this is the way to do it! Don't give people one lousy game, give them a collection they will cherish for the rest of this gen. The Master Thief Collection will be one of those collections you'll end up holding on to because the games are so much fun.
Uncharted 3 was stunning in 3D. So let's yank it. Uncharted 2/3 had interesting multiplayer modes. So let's yank it. Honestly this collection gets even less appealing with each passing announcement. Let's hope it's not full price.
I must admit I am a little surprised at the decision to remove the MP component - even if I rarely played it and I understand their reasoning. Remasterstend to offer the full experience and often all DLC too so I was expecting the Mp to be included with the maps as well as DLC Maps and skins - like the Master Chief Collection. It almost seems 'rushed' or a late decision - a change of mind.
I am not complaining of course as I said, I didn't really play the MP and buy Uncharted for the Single player and will buy this collection too.
I have now just got a 3D TV (although I bought it for its 4K) and not tried 3d gaming, I guess I won't with this either...
@Jazzer94 Of course not. It's just funny how the conversation changes.
@MadchesterManc It is.
Ok this pisses me off I'll pass. It's already built into the game.,so why not? I bought a 3DTV for this game and others. And now they want me to re-buy a gimped version?
3D is an irrelevant fad used to sell HDTV's after the market slowed down once everybody had already ditched the old SD's......seriously, it a dying trend and has been for some time.
Multiplayer, Uncharted? Heard it was fun, don't care though......this is a day one purchase for me.
Buy a HDTV, it looks awesome......no, buy a new TV for the 3D......you want a smart TV? Right?.......4K, the new revolution.......curved screen!! So now your viewing angles are even worse.
Face palm.
I think multiplayer is the bigger loss, even then that's somewhat lessened with the multiplayer beta. 3D is just a gimmick, one I didn't see lasting.
I will agree that full price is a bit much. Yes it's 3 well made stories, but with a mode's removal and not enough extras to compensate, it doesn't match up to me.
No multiplayer means no multiplayer trophies...
""We didn't want to fracture the current player pool and community," the aforementioned executive explained unconvincingly."
Eh, I can see it though. Think of it this way. Right now there are still some people playing the PS3 versions of MP on both games? Are they still both up? I'll assume at least the third one is. So those would be the more hardcore fans of the MP of that game. They then release this remaster, which will open a floodgate of new players who had always wanted to play the Uncharted series, but only had an X-Box 360. And of course some people who love the series will double dip. But there are two new games that could have MP. Which MP do people play? What happens to the PS3 players? I can see how even having three entirely separate MP games at the same time might be a bit much.
Plus yeah, obviously it would have been waaaay cheaper to skip em entirely.
I've always viewed the Uncharted series as single player first with the added bonus of mp, unlike some certain other franchises which do it the other way around. So I understand the logic of skipping it which is still a shame because I enjoyed 2's but with number 4 being right around the corner and access to its mp beta I don't see the issue. Also I don't think that many people actually cared about 3d, it was a fun little gimmick while it lasted.
Day 1 buy for me and whilst my personal favourite is Uncharted 2 I'm most looking forward to playing the original as I believe that will benefit the most from any improvements that are introduced.
Maybe I'm just being dense here but I'm not sure I get it. They had no problem bringing the MP across for TLOU, so why not do the same here? Surely a boost to the MP community would be a good thing as you're revitalising it? Oh well, I was never going to buy day 1 anyway, can't justify paying full price for a collection of games I already own when there are so many new games I'm yet to try!
I've never had a 3DTV and I thought the multiplayer was a nice distraction. The selling point of Uncharted games for me is the fantastic single player stories.
I'd be more than happy to pay full price for the trilogy - three epic games remastered for the price of one? Well worth it, I'd say.
3D is great for some games, Zen Pinball 2 for example.
3d is a fad and gimmick.... Its even fading in cinema.
Curved screens are just idiotic.
We want cheap 4k
lack of 3D doesn't bother me as I'm blind in one eye so I could never see it anyway and as for UC 2 and 3's multiplayer being pulled well as the fact series main focus was always the single player story and the fact it comes with a beta for UC4 multiplayer AND also with UC4 on the way anyway, it's no big loss really
your still getting 3 great games to play, 3 games that are each just as long and just as fun as most games released today so even without multiplayer, it's a bargain for the price
Until today I don't get the point of UC and TLoU had MP. EVERYONE bought the game only for the SP part. So, what's the fuss about?
Also the MP trophies are pointless, they don't rely on your ability alone to achieve them, third parties are involved.
"We didn't want to fracture the current player pool and community"
What the hell ? I mean, not that i care too much but this is one of the worst excuses ever, how are you going to fracture the community IF THOSE 2 ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE START
I mean, you cant fracture the community because one will be on PS4 and the other on PS3.
Im getting it anyway but that was one terrible excuse.
No 3D is fine, no MP is not. The idea of these remasters is to improve over the originals, not to gimp them.
Shame did love the multiplayer on uncharted but the campaigns are great I think it's a fair price
@TOMBOY25 Agreed(I'm assuming the conversion to dollars is around $40). Uncharted is one of my favorite franchises, but I don't need them again sans multiplayer for $59.99. It'll go on sale for sure.
@get2sammyb Personally, this is an argument I was happy to be wrong about. I loved the first uncharted so much I was afraid the multiplayer would somehow dilute the single player campaign. Which after playing uncharted 2, I found nothing could be further from the truth. That said, once uncharted 4 releases I'm sure the multiplayer will dry up on the previous releases.
I'm actually happy they're ditching multiplayer for this release. It means I can platinum these games on PS4 without having to mess around with multiplayer.
3D is/was amazing.
I notice that most of the people complaining about the lack of MP have already played it. That doesn't really make sense because this collection isn't aimed at you guys to begin with.
I will admit, I am extremely thankful that this collection has no online and no multiplayer functionality. These two "mandatory" components of most modern games are the reason why I am find myself playing games less and less every generation. For me, having a single or local co-op game with a great amount of replay value is infinitely better than hopping into an online multiplayer match that will only be fun as long as the servers are running and other people are interested in the game.
@Hordak Agreed.
So annoying to see people constantly trot out the old trite 'gimmick' and 'pointless fad' crap about stereoscopic 3D in games. And actually saying it's "good" that it seems to be dying out, for everyone? That's just being a selfish tit. No one's ever forced you to buy a 3DTV.
Stereoscopic 3D, especially in yer typical popcorny mainstream films/games, CAN be a pretty worthless gimmick, definitely, but it can also be utterly gobsmacking, and can provide something very unique and visually powerful that totally adds to the experience in a surprisingly substantial way (a natural sense of spatial relativity is an important aspect of immersion). It's simply ignorance to claim otherwise - clearly these people have never truly experienced the heights (depths!) that 3D gaming can reach when done right.
Films: Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Hugo, Up, The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D, Coraline, The Mask (1961 original), Dial M for Murder, Pina, Ghosts of the Abyss... all are most certainly best experienced in 3D, and in many cases the effect is actually important to how they tell their stories. And of course Avatar, if you can stand it, for all its general rubbishness does create a fantastic and pretty beautiful immersive world through very technically sophisticated use of depth-of-field (even acknowledging that aspect though, I'm no fan of the film itself - I'm not so easily pleased that strong 3D on its own is good enough).
Games: Trine 1 & 2, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Sniper Elite 3, Gran Turismo 5, Crysis 2, Puppeteer, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Arkham City and more that I can't think of off the top of my head right now are variously fun, interesting and just plain amazing with the 3D, and it's far more than a 'gimmick'. Uncharted 3 was a pretty stunning stereoscopic experience too, although the overall graphical quality and smoothness took bit of a hit with the setting on due to the PS3's technical limitations - so frustrating that now they could get it damn near perfect on PS4, but have just dropped it. That coupled with no multiplayer means I definitely won't be shelling out early doors for this, if at all. I'd have gladly done with fully updated 3D included, even still losing the multiplayer.
Even Witcher 3 using my TV's 'fake' 2D to 3D conversion setting is surprisingly very decent when you get the settings just right, and your set's good enough to do it correctly. The increased feeling of depth goes a long way to making those expansive landscapes so breathtakingly beautiful, and seeing rushing enemies close up to you popping out against a backdrop of rolling hills and forests and ancient castle ruins and villages and oceans that feel far out there in the distance... it's just glorious. That immersive 3D effect is tailor-made for adventuring games like this and Uncharted if you ask me, so it's hugely disappointing that there's seemingly not enough of an audience now who can be arsed with it, so dev studios no longer actually 'tailor-make' the fully-3D experience of their game, it's left up to our TV sets and PC modders to try and do their best with it. Steroscopic output is a vital component of Virtual Reality as well, so it's hardly like it has no place going forward.
