Although Call of Duty: Black Ops III's main story campaign will be set in the distant future, its take on the series' popular Zombie Mode will play host to a 1940s film-noir setting. A new trailer unveiled at the San Diego Comic Con has given us a glimpse into what's changed – and, perhaps more importantly, what's stayed the same.
Dubbed 'Shadows of Evil', this iteration will feature four heroes: a magician, a femme-fatale, a police officer, and a boxer – voiced by Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neil McDonough, and Ron Perlman, respectively. A character known as The Shadow Man – presumably the main villain – will be voiced by Robert Picardo.
Picardo offered some insight as to what role his character plays. "Shadow Man offers to help them, but his offer may not really help them," he said. "Everything I say is completely unreliable, including what I just said."
Gameplay consists of using gumball machines to unlock special abilities, taking advantage of unusual weapons – like a rocket-powered riot shield – and, of course, gunning down hordes of the undead. The inclusion of some bigger monsters hints that Shadows of Evil could feature mini-bosses. What do you think of these additions and changes? It's mental how we've essentially come to expect three full games in each edition of Call of Duty these days. This looks really cool, though.
They probably didn't need to pay one of those voice actors a ridiculous sum of money since he just sounds like Nolan North anyway.
Looks interesting. Shame the main game looks so pants. And I really wish Sony would change the 'PlayStation' voice at the end of these clips. I'm fed up of listening to that Japanese lad with a bunch of straws stuck up each nostril.
Would the really Zombie mode please stand up, we are not going to have a problem here.
Looks brilliant & it also looks like they have taken it back to how the originals were in Black Ops 1, which were the best one's. If you look at AW Zombies to this, these guys do the best original Zombies mode which no one else comes close too.
Definitely getting a waw/blops1 zombies vibe from this trailer which is awesome, and the banter coming from the characters sounds like its a return to earlier zomibes also awesome... I do miss dempsey tho... Hoo f***** rah devil man!
Looks really good fun - something you want and expect from the Zombies mode!! Yet again it makes it difficult to decide what to do first in this years CoD - Campaign (solo or co-op), Multi-player or Zombies??
@get2sammyb It depends what you mean by full games. A 6 hour campaign, 10 multiplayer maps and 4 horde maps is hardly ground breaking.
These elements are all essential for a fps these days.
@themcnoisy Well if you blast through the campaign on an easy setting, not bothering to collect intel etc, then it can be completed in around 6hrs. This year it also adds in co-op for a bit of replayability and fun. I guess similar in length to its closest rival but I much prefer the campaign of this to Battlefields
CoD usually has 14 maps and around 10-12 game modes as well as 4-5 of these in a 'hardened' mode. Battlefield usually ships with 8 maps and a few game modes - ok so it adds vehicles into the mix and the maps are generally bigger but I can't think of a single FPS game that ships with more maps and modes (doesn't mean there isn't the odd one or two - just means I can't think of one)
Not many games actually bother with a co-op mode - like Zombies, Extinction and any other Survival mode. MW3 and AW used every single MP map as a full and unlimited horde mode - not limited to a set number of rounds. Zombies generally isn't just a 'horde' mode either with 'story', easter eggs that can have an ending. The maps are often huge - certainly grown since the W@W offering. Talking of which W@W was quite ground breaking because it was the game that added the third option that a lot of games now replicate.
@BAMozzy I loved mw2. The campaign, spec ops and multiplayer were all ace. But its not 3 full games in one, but yes there is enough content to have a lot of fun with.
But I have missed playing cod so will likely pick this up as Ive missed both ghosts and AW.
@themcnoisy I think its pretty close to having 3 full games. If you consider the length of the campaign of the Order 1886 and the lack of replayability, CoDs campaign can easily surpass that - whether or not the story is better or game-play etc is down to personal tastes of course. Add in up to 4 player co-op as well, It could well have even more reason to play it multiple times.
The MP is a lot bigger and has more options than Titanfall did in both modes, maps and weaponry too. Many more unlocks and customisable options.
I don't yet know exactly what co-op options this game will have but Ghosts for example had the whole 'Squads' option as well as the Extinction (Alien horde type mode) Squads had a full Survival option on every MP map and could be set to 20, 40 or even unlimited number of rounds. It also had a few other options too - like a 'training' mode for the MP which mixed up teams of players and bots. Just the co-op mode of this is bigger than some games.
Personally I wasn't bothered by Spec-ops in MW2 or MW3. The 'survival mode of MW3 got a LOT more hours put into it. MW2's Spec ops had a few good missions but I much preferred W@W's Zombies. Since those days though - the beginning of a third option, that third option has significantly grown.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi You snooze you lose...
Haven't played Cod in a few years, might actually have to get this one. Zombies looks good again!
Every year my friend makes me buy a cod game for me to dislike it and then return it.. I really like zombies though so i might get this game of my own accord this time round..
Looks good, would be nice if later down the road of this game they'd port or do a best of collection for WAW and/or Black Ops 1 zombie maps.
