We get the slightest suspicion that Square Enix and Sony are working together to save the home console in Japan. Obviously this is speculation on our part, but announcements like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Nier New Project – both for the PlayStation 4 – seem focused on rescuing a sector of the industry that's heading towards irrelevancy in the East. And let's be honest: Dragon Quest XI would be the icing on the cake.
For a while now the next entry in the series has been rumoured for Sony's new-gen system, and speaking with Final Fantasy Ring, creator Yuji Horii has hinted that that will be the case. He told the site that, unlike its predecessor Dragon Quest X, the series' next entry will be an offline game for home console, which will revisit the traditional mechanics from the original titles. It's not a PS4 confirmation by any stretch, but given the success of Dragon Quest Heroes, we reckon that it's the likeliest destination.
Are you itching for more Dragon Quest? Do you think that the franchise will complete the return to PlayStation after a pretty lengthy spell in Nintendo's camp? Slime us in the comments section below.

Sweet night mother! Praise the nine! My prays have been heard! I waited ages for a DQ to release on PlayStation again
I would love for this to happen, I haven't played a DQ game since they went over to freakin Nintendo.
I was a huge fan of Dragon Quest VIII - Journey of the Cursed King back when it was on the PS2. Needless to say, I'll be very happy if they do make DQXI for the PS4. I'm on the fence with DQ Heroes, though cause I don't really enjoy Dynasty Warriors type of gameplay.
This would make perfect sense, and I would love it! Too bad we would probably have to wait another 4 years to play it in the west.
>Sony and SQEnix are working together.
-looks at Rise of the Tomb Raider- yeah, no.
I'd be interested. All last Gen I was kind of over JRPG, didn't like FF13 so I skipped the 2 sequels, FFCCTCB is 1 of the worst games I've ever played, WKC 1 and 2 we're ok. Still haven't played Ni No Kunis b/c of the Pokémon type mechanic. But I finally gotten around to Xeno blade and that's epic, and FF15 looks great. A new DQ that is graphically similar to DQH but traditional game play could be great. But I'll wait and see.
I really need to go watch SQ E3 event to see KH3. But I figure I have plenty of time for that. Like years. And years more for 7. Fortunately XCX this holiday.
@rjejr
And get this- word has it Dragon Quest 7 and 8 on 3DS are being localized. At the expo in Japan The guy made a comment that the games would be localized "in French". Whether that refers to France (EU localization) or Canada (NA localization) is anyone's guess, but my suspicion is that it's North America. The only two languages needed for an NA release are English and French, while an EU release would entail 3-5 languages.
It's not an official confirmation but I think it's a safe bet at this point.
Hopefully it's on PS4, XB1, and Wii U. They've already got a working engine for Wii U from DQX, so there is no excuse there.
I'd love for it to see a PS4 release but I'm not going to get my hopes up. Seems like DQ has found a home on Nintendo systems recently and there's always MS laying in the weeds waiting to throw $$$ out there. It's fun to speculate but hopefully when the real news comes it isn't something to be disappointed about.
Kind of silly to conflate "the home console" with "Playstation 4," especially in Japan. That aside, more proper Dragon Quest is always good news.
@NaughtyOttsel22 I think 'in Japan' is the key phrase here.
Well it definitely won't be on Xbone. While the PS4 sells 11,000 units or more each week in Japan, the Xbone sells about 150. The Wii U tends to manage 6000, going up briefly alongside specific game releases. The Wii U is ahead in overall sales but given how the PS4 outsells it most weeks by a large margin, how Nintendo are very clearly taking their foot off the pedal with it, and how the PS4 has FFXV, FFVIIR, more DQ Heroes*, Last Guardian, various Tales games*, Street Fighter V, Persona 5*, Shenmue III and more coming out, none of which are on the Wii U, I can't see it staying that way for long.
@hYdeks Same here, I've only played Dragon Quest 8 though.
@rjejr Gotta say Ni No Kuni was probably my favorite JRPG on PlayStation last gen sure the battle system started out slow but as soon as you get out of the first Dungeon it picks up a gets exciting felt like a classic JRPG with the overhead world map
@Lord_Balonqoth - Maybe it's time for Ni No Kuni, thanks.
