Sony's laser focus on gaming may have won it the first part of this generation, but the PlayStation 4 has been lacking in certain areas as a consequence. It's amazing, then, that the system's only just getting a remote, which is set to release in North America on 31st October. The officially licensed device – which can be pre-ordered for $29.99 – includes all of the inputs that you'd ordinarily find on a DualShock 4, in addition to customary media navigation options and more.
The controller can be paired with up to four unique appliances – a television, set-top box, audio receiver, and, of course, PS4 – and can be used to turn on and off your console with ease. It's got a nice ergonomic design, complete with the system's logo on the rear. It's perhaps a little pricey, but if you've been looking for a one-stop shop remote that's compatible with Sony's new-gen system, then you're probably not going to find one that's better than this. Sadly, it doesn't appear to be available in Europe just yet.

£20 minimum? Ridiculous, I'll grab for a tenner when available. No more watching TV and letting my DS4 drain to death. Geez. Let's hope Sony doesn't think it's a good idea to turn the remote into a permanent torch you can't turn off but only dim and it'll only work with Sony certified memory cards and batteries.
Also, why haven't they just made a PS4 remote APP instead?
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi It's made by PDP so I doubt there'll be any shady stuff.
This will be handy and all but there's still no reason why the PS3 remote shouldn't be compatible.
About bloody time! Netflix and the dreadful battery of the controller are not friends
@get2sammyb @Bad-MuthaAdebisi
$30/£25 is actually not a bad price for a universal remote. Unlike the PS3 controller, which was BD only and so could only control the PS3, if this one contains both IR and BD and is able to control the TV and Freeview boxes as well as the volume on the soundbar then excellent.
Hmmm. Don't like the layout as much as the PS3 remote, and it's missing the L & R buttons. I'm sure I'll pick it up, as long as it doesn't require a USB dongle, but I don't know if it will be as useful as the last gen. That PS3 remote was a godsend when playing vocals on Rock Band
I'm still getting one don't care if the price.
Outstanding. Interested to see how it compares to the x1 media remote, which is pretty much the only thing thats kept me from selling my x1.
My Bravia remote controls the PS4, good for scrolling through homescreen/the store/twitch and of course pausing/rewinding etc. bluerays and dvds.
I guess it's essentially the same as this remote. $30 is a joke though.
@licenced I'm only interested in a remote for the PS4, Never use my freeview box really
Yep, looks a damn lot like my Bravia remote as well, which indeed already controls my PS4.....no need for this.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi YES. I would even pay $5-10 for it.
@get2sammyb Is there no touchpad? I wonder how long it will take someone to beat Bloodborne with it...
I just enabled the Simplink for the HDMI port the PS4 is connected to on my LG TV and I'm able to control the console with my bog standard remote control as well as the remote for my Surround system (this includes negotiating the crossbar menu on the PS4 home screen too)
If anybody is wanting a media remote but has yet to enable Simplink (or your TV manufacturer's equivalent) give it a go as you might already be able to use the remote you own without realising it
@ztpayne7 I beat Dark Souls II on PS4 in 56 minutes using only my chin and big toes via PS Vita remote play.
@FiDRoC I have an LG HDTV with Simplink on it as well but whenever I've tried to get it working the only success I've had is with the PS4 going to rest mode when you hit standby on the TV remote, It's never recognized the up/down/left/right buttons for navigating in the menu. Any ideas on that?
@HazMan1988 Hmmm ... it just seems to have worked on mine straight off the bat without me having to do any messing about with it
I've just had a look on my TV, when you go to the 'Input List' screen there's a 'SIMPLINK Setting' mapped to the Green button which when clicked gives the option to enable 'TV remote control for all LG devices connected with HDMI'. Surprisingly, enabling this seems to work for everything I have connected to my TV ... none of which are LG btw.
I'm using a Smart TV that's a few years old (and is actually more of Dumb TV for the majority of the time) but have a dig about in your settings to see if you've any more SIMPLINK options other than to sync everything to the standby. It could be some of the older LG sets don't let you do it which would be annoying
My Panasonic Viera TV remote works automatically with my PS4
Bonus!
@BlaBlaBla
Which model of Bravia mate as you can buy them off ebay for between £5 and £10 which is a damn site more appealing than £20....
