Horizon: Zero Dawn really struck a chord with consumers and critics at E3 2015 last month, which must have really energised the team at Guerrilla Games. Of course, now that the PlayStation 4 exclusive has been revealed, there are many questions remaining regarding the release itself, like whether it'll feature an online component. The answer appears to be... Well, yes.
"The core of the game is a single player experience, but there are certain social features in there," art director Jan Bart Van Beek told Games Radar. It's unclear what these will encompass, but we doubt that the Dutch developer will be implementing co-op or anything of that scope β perhaps you'll be able to trade items with others over the Internet or something like that?
Elsewhere, the developer also touched a little upon the different play styles that you'll be able to adopt. "There's one that's very much focused on stealth, one that's focused on firepower, [and] one that's focused on setting traps and hunting," Van Beek continued. "So there are ways where you get to customise your character and tune her more towards your play style."
It seems that you'll be earning experience points and levelling up just like in any other role-playing game, but the skill points that you earn as part of this will allow you to tailor your character to the types outlined above. One thing everyone will be able to do, however, is traverse the lush apocalyptic landscape. "You can climb up mountains, climb into trees, [and] swim through rivers," he continued.
It all sounds pretty great. But please, Guerrilla β no Assassin's Creed style towers, ta.

Yeah, the only thing that really worries me with open world games these days is the tedious genre tropes that Ubisoft loves so much. Climbing towers, collectibles, that sort of stuff. Hopefully Guerrilla Games doesn't succumb to the temptation.
"It's predominantly a single player experience."
Personally I don't mind a bit of the traversal, hunting out areas and secrets, finding collectibles, upgrades etc. The issue I have though is when this becomes the main focus and majority of the game interspersed with the odd moments of action.
If I have to or can climb trees to scout an area, to plan a route, to study my targets etc but also be wary of a passing Thunderjaw or being spotted by a 'spotter', then its acceptable. IF by jumping in a river its to escape one hazard but could face other hazards that's ok too.
This was my 2nd most anticipated game from E3 (behind Uncharted 4) - even if it was a linear game with no RPG elements, the story concept and theme really appealed. It was certainly the most impressive new IP from my point of view...
I need this now .
The game is looking impressive really looking forwards to it.
This is the Playstation exclusive I'm looking forward to the most!
No Coop? No sale.
I pretty much only play games for the single player experience so I would never use it but this game does look like one that could provide a great co-op experience. The Witcher 3 the same thing. It's not needed but if done right could be a nice feature and one that maybe pulls in even more users. Of course that's all provided it wouldn't take from the single player. Some games shoehorn in multiplayer and then when I'm playing the single player, even if it's good, I notice stuff that could've possibly been done better had multiplayer not been forced in because people b*tch if it's not there.
The more I hear about this game the better it seems to suit my play style, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the future updates I'm sure we'll be drip fed.

Hell yeah... ππ»
@ShogunRok Why do people hate endless collectibles when Ubisoft does it but loves it when companies like Rare do it? I've seen the same people moan about Assassin's Creed for having lots of collectibles just for the sake of having them, then go all misty-eyed about how amazing Banjo-Kazooie is for having lots of collectibles just for the sake of having them. Is it only okay when the main character looks like a fast food mascot?
Well if it's a choice between
(a) being stabbed in the back by fellow co-op players and being ripped off after slogging it and helping them out to get Loot(The Division)
or
(b) single player in an elegant, beautiful, brutal, open world.
I think I'll go with b; thank you very much.
And please, enough with those awful, tedious, repetitious taboola junk.

Single player is the first thing I look at in a game and I very rarely play multiplayer. That aside this always looked likely to be a single player only game.
Absolutely loved the video for this game and it looks to be potentially one of the best new IP's in years and is at the very top of my most wanted list alongside Uncharted 4.
Well I'm more interested that before I thought it was a multiplayer game for the most part.
This is what Freedom Wars could've been, both titles share a vibe for me - hunting down mechs by destroying parts and fallen civilisation... I loved the former and will love this, no doubt.
