Without an early 2015 blockbuster release, Ubisoft's revenue has taken a hit this year. According to the publisher's latest financial report ending the 30th June, sales have declined by 73 per cent year-on-year.
Despite the drop, though, the PlayStation 4 has proven to be the popular choice when it comes to the French company's software. Sony's new-gen console accounted for a whopping 27 per cent of the publisher's revenue, which is more than double what last-gen platforms and the Xbox One managed.
With heavy hitting titles like Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Tom Clancy's The Division, and Rainbow Six: Siege all in the works, it's clear that Ubisoft's thinking big for the future - but will it be able to bounce back after crafting some particularly disappointing in recent times? It's not an insignificant lead either. PS4 accounted for like 27% or something crazy.
Its hardly surprising as the PS4 does have a lead over the competition and of course gives extra 'exclusive' content to PS owners...
I just bought Unity and have buyers remorse.
This is the reason why Sony got COD, as it's selling more Hardware & Software. 27% double what last Gen & XboxOne sold, & this is another reason you'll never see another Titanfall exclusive. & why Tomb Rider is a Timed exclusive, even this has shot them in the foot.
@banacheck
Re-Core, Scalebound, Quantum Break...just to name 3. I'm not saying it's a smart thing to do, but as long as MS keeps throwing money at it, we'll keep on seeing 3rd party exclusives.
But for a game like Titanfall it indeed was a terrible decision and such a shame it didn't come out on all platforms; for me it's still the best shooter available on all systems.
There is one game though that absolutely screams PS4, but will probably never get a ps4 release, and that's Sunset Overdrive. That game is so much fun, but it is a typical Playstation game. When I'm playing Titanfall I never think about what console I'm on, cause it's just a perfect match, but whenever I played Sunset Overdrive I really forgot I wasn't playing on my PS4 until I saw button prompts or something. Tomb Raider will give me the exact same feeling for sure!
So now it's clear now why they ported ZombiU to the PS4.
Sales down 73% year over year. May want to look into why, Ubisoft.
@Boerewors
The worst part about Sunset Overdrive is it was entirely possible for it to be on PS4. All Sony had to do, and should've done after all the years of top notch games given to PS platforms by Insomniac, was let Insomniac keep one damn IP that it created. People can give me the bs 'business' reasons all they want, the fact is Sony has a ton of franchises, it didn't need to own the rights to Sunset Overdrive. The real shame is, PS4 owners miss out on a great game and the game didn't get the sales it deserved. I think it would've sold better on PS4 but unfortunately they couldn't make it happen.
May have missed out, but it's easily forgotten, man. It's not a big deal and I will say that the guys at Insomniac should've know better. The thing is, this deal was struck with Insomniac hoping to capitalize on the previous success that was Xbox 360.
