One of the reasons that PlayStation is such a big presence in Europe is because the brand is a major partner of the Champions League, arguably the biggest club football tournament in the world. And it's been announced that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is extending its partnership with the competition for three additional seasons, starting with the 2015/2016 event that's months away from kicking off. The sponsorship will also encompass the UEFA Super Cup in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
However, the Japanese giant's not stopping there. It's also announced that Sony Xperia will become the tournament's official mobile partner through until the end of the 2017/2018 season, replacing HTC. "We are very pleased that Sony has extended its sponsorship, as we will continue to work closely with PlayStation, but we now also welcome Sony Xperia into the partnership," said UEFA's Guy-Laurent Epstein. All you really need to know is that PlayStation – and now Xperia – will continue to be heavily promoted during some of the biggest football matches of the year.
