Just when you thought that the industry's obsession with the undead was over, Ubisoft has seemingly decided to re-release one-time Wii U exclusive ZombiU on the PlayStation 4. The port was touted earlier in the year, and the rumour was reinforced due to an Australian ratings board. However, a classification on a Taiwanese website has all but confirmed the adaptation, as it comes with a fresh piece of artwork.
As expected, the title will be known simply as Zombi on Sony's new-gen system, which solves one of the main problems related to bringing the release to alternate hardware. What's still unclear is how the developer's going to get around the Gamepad issue, as this was very much built with Nintendo's dual-screen device in mind. PlayStation Vita compatibility is certainly possible, but seems somewhat unlikely.
Despite being a Wii U launch title, Ubisoft rather publicly pointed out that the package failed to even break even. This port has likely been conceived to recoup some of those costs, then – but we can't imagine the PlayStation fanbase will be clamouring to give this a go. After all, zombie games are dime a dozen on Sony's system – and with better titles like The Last of Us Remastered in the console's catalogue, will there really be a market for these sloppy seconds?

Cheers for this Ubisoft, just what I always wanted.
it might sel if they use the vitas second screen fuction but being ubisoft it will just be a lazy bare bones port
Bought it for a fiver on Wii U.
@FullbringIchigo unfortuntly your probably right... I have this on WiiU and its one of my Favorit Zombie games by far and the WiiU Gamepad use's were fantastic... I dont see them doing this port justice.
The point about Zombies is that they are probably the best cannon fodder. You can't be a (virtual) murderer or upset some politically correct do-gooder for annihilating hordes of the already undead. You are not brutally ending the life of some sentient species - whether that be animal or alien. You don't really need some 'story' to justify the 'killing' either. Its probably why they are the most common enemy type.
I really don't know much about this game though and don't know what real benefits the Wii U screen had or brought to the game. I do know that I will be enjoying the slaying of hordes of the undead in November when Treyarch's CoD: BO3 releases and have no issue with other 'Zombie' games releasing either.
Great. What I've always wanted. Suppose they want to charge 60 Euro for it to.
Didn't think much of this game myself.
@Savino Really? I mean, they're different games... But...
I have zombi u on wii u and I found it fairly boring certainly not a system seller the last of us however is worth getting a Playstation for.
I really did enjoy ZombiU on the Wii U. I won't likely pick it up for full retail on PS4 though, I could always just snag it for cheap on Wii U.
The game itself is quite good & it's a proper survival game, so I think with a good port this game could do better than what it did on the WII U.
Wii U exclusive coming to other platforms, it doesn't sound too good does it.
I wouldn't exactly label it as sloppy seconds. I thought the game was excellent and quite underrated. Even with the likes of The Last of Us on the PS4, there's surely a market for this type of game on the console. The real problem is, what made the title unique is gone in the absence of the gamepad, though I imagine there could be some interesting workarounds with the DS4's gyro sensor and touchpad. They also have the second screen with the PlayStation app or the Vita, though it wouldn't have the same punch as the Wii U gamepad. Of course I could see them implementing the inability to pause and the inventory screen popping up in some sort of snap mode.
@get2sammyb honestly from a pure suspense standpoint ZombiU hands down, though TLoU is definitely nothing to sneeze at, but like you said, totally different games and styles for that matter.
Sloppy seconds? @get2sammyb is being kind my not just calling this game what it really is but anyway the PS4 has The Evil Within, Alien Isolation, Resident Evil Revelations 2 and for those who haven't played it, The Last of Us. On Xbox One switch TLoU with Dead Rising 3 (the definitive zombie experience imo). Can even throw REmake HD in. All are infinitely better games, totally different or not. I'm just looking at it from the perspective of potential new buyers of both consoles. I really don't see the point of this port at all. It'll be low cost so I guess low sales won't matter but I would recommend any of the other games I mentioned instead of Zombi U 1 million times over.
Also seems like Ubisoft did some flip-flopping. I could've sworn they were 'happy' with sales of the Wii U version. This is a quick cash-grab, don't be ashamed of it just admit it.
It's a great game but was designed to be used with a second screen, so I'm not sure how well it will work. I had the same concerns regarding Rayman Legends but that seemed to go down well enough with ps users.
@get2sammyb - Expect to see that "sloppy seconds" line repeated A LOT when PS4 gets its RotTR port.
@rjejr
Difference is that will be an actual good game. Of course there's still no guarantee it's coming to PS4.
@Gamer83 different strokes for different folks I suppose. Obviously thats your opinion.Even without all the other games on PS4/XB1 within the same genre aside, I'd recommend the Wii U version because it would be the definitive way of playing, because new buyers would be cheated out of the complete experience.
@Savino I'm completely with you on this one. Though TLoU was an amazing game as well.
Yeah they're gonna have to revamp the game for this to work.
Atleast it's got a better name than the Wii U version!
@Savino you sleep
For the record, I'm not suggesting this is a bad game. All I'm saying is that it's a port of a pretty ancient game on a platform where it's likely going to lack the chief gimmick that made it interesting in the first place.
I just doubt there's going to be a market for it - especially if it ends up being a full-price boxed title.
If Ubisoft had any "brains" lol they would have made this a Project Morpheus title instead. Its would seem like a no "brainer" if you asked me. If they did decide to go the route of Sony's VR I may have been convinced to take a "bite" but given that its going to be a straight port I think I'll give this port a miss.
Shame though as I could see this selling really well with Project Morpheus in mind.
I've still got to get this game. C'mon Amazon, drop it below $10...
This is a pretty good game. It's not an epic game or legendary or an all-time best, but it's a good game. I didn't even go so far as to say it's really good.
How good it will be without a second screen is yet to be seen.
ill totally get it if its not too much
I had fun with this when it first came out and as with almost every game on that platform the removal of the second screen basically won't make any difference. It was essentially used to check your inventory without pausing the game, so you could be attacked whilst looking through it or looting as you were no longer watching the main screen. The best part was the permanent death of your character. You'd respawn as someone new and if you wanted your gear back would have to go get it from where you died, with your now zombified self waiting plus whatever killed you in the first place.
I'd never sully TLOU by calling it a Zombie game. I have no idea how this game plays or looks so I'll wait and see.
@get2sammyb Depends if UBi put effort into the port or not, what am I saying its Ubi so yes I agree with you this will need to be a budget release.
"and with better titles like The Last of Us Remastered in the console's catalogue, will there really be a market for these sloppy seconds?"
The two games couldn't be any more different, they aren't even the same genre! ZombiU is an old school horror game and horror fans will love it. There is no other game out so far this gen that does horror as well, honestly. Last of Us is my favourite game of all time but it's a survival action cinematic experience with virtually no horror at all. A very bad comparison to make.
Zombi U was, and is, the best example of what could be done with the Gamepad. As a survival horror game, it had atmosphere in spades and was quite enjoyable. I liked it enough that I might buy it again on the PS4, at the right price.
Comparisons to TLOU are just silly. Ones a survival horror game, the other other Uncharted 4: Drake's Infection. TLOU was a great game, but as a fan of horror games, I'd take zombiU. That nursery stage is scary as hell.
I wonder if they will cut the multiplayer out completely. It was a survival mode where one player played on the screen and the other player had the gamepad and played an RTS-lite game where you spawn zombies around the place, earn upgrades and stronger monsters and try to kill the lone player. It was awesome and even my Nintendo-skeptic friend said it was "like nothing I've ever played". I don't see how it'd be possible on PS4 however unless they use the Vita which seems like more effort than Ubi would put in.
Upgrade the graphics, get rid of the touch controls completely, and have it for a cheaper price and I'll likely give it a try. They should have released this on PlayStation and Xbox in the first place, instead of wasting their time on a Nintendo console
@get2sammyb I think it was a joke. I have both games on their respective systems. Unless they somehow change the game, I don't see it playing as well on PS4.
So what exactly did the Wii U version use the 2nd screen for? I know there's some kind of multiplayer mode that uses it, though I don't know why that couldn't just be done online with 2 different PS4s, with a Vita, or with a tablet or smartphone since the vast majority of people have the latter two items especially.
Is the single player experience just down to the old 2nd screen inventory gimmick? If so, that's really not a problem. You have to look away from the main playing area to use them so it's only the same as if the inventory came up and covered the main screen anyway. Instead, imagine you press and hold, say, R2. A semi-transparent inventory comes up on the screen letting you interact with it while also seeing what's going on around you. That's better in every single way than a 2nd screen.
That's not specifically anti-Wii U, plenty of games on other platforms do similar things (e.g. Assassin's Creed Black Flag on PS4 using a tablet or smartphone) and it's always better to just use the in-game one unless it's quite slow and laggy. That's the only way it'll be quicker and more convenient to look down.
