There's no time for Yu Suzuki to change his mind anymore: Shenmue III is going to get made for the PlayStation 4. Following the theatrics of last week's Kickstarter conclusion, the SEGA veteran has stepped out of the public eye a little over the past few days – but he did offer an update for backers, confirming that development on the long awaited sequel has now officially started in earnest.
"Even after 14 years have gone by, to see this outpouring of support is something one as a creator can only dream of," he beamed. "There can be no better feeling than what you have given me, and for that I will be eternally grateful. We have just started getting into development, and as we move ahead, I will listen to all of you to make Shenmue III even better."
It's going to be interesting to see just how regularly the Ys Net team shares updates moving forwards. The game is still at least two and a half years away, so we can't see it having anything meaningful to show for a good while yet. Having said that, it will need to placate impatient supporters, so the studio's going to have to find a balance between being open and knuckling down.

We waited this long,I think we can wait 2-3yrs more.
@ekreig You can - just your 2017 one!
People are gunna start whining about this big time in a year or so. Normally games get announced at least part way through, and many still hate the wait. Strap yourselves in, guys!
The hate on the Hyper Light Drifter kickstarter is pretty strong:

@kyleforrester87 It's happened with Mighty No 9 too because of it's delays (rumours of a 2016 release now) also Inafune's studio announced that Red Ash Kickstarter which people (quite rightly) saying "finish one crowdfunded game before you start another" not to mention there making that Recore for xbox.
@adf86 Yup, if Suzuki starts to slip up with regular and substantial updates the backers are going to get upset.
Meh, waited this long already, a few years more is no biggy. Just knowing it is getting made is enough for me.
Despite donating the Kickstarter, I actually don't want to know too much prior to release. Interesting to have project updates, interviews and stuff like that but I'm going to avoid watching too much gameplay footage (whenever it arrives) and for the most part I just want to be able to experience the sheer disbelief when I boot it up for the first time.
