We weren't all that enamoured with The Crew when it released on the PlayStation 4 last year, but kudos to Ubisoft, it's not pumping the brakes on the brand just yet. In fact, upcoming expansion Wild Ride is more than just your average DLC pack β it's going to launch alongside a brand new graphics engine which promises to completely change the look of the game.
As outlined in the trailer embedded below, this will improve the draw distance and switch to a physically based rendering system. If you're not a programmer, all you need to know is that everything's going to look a lot more lifelike β the difference as outlined in the video clip is pretty impressive, so do take a look.
The developer's also adding weather to the release, which will not only add some visual variety to the sandbox, but will also change the way that your car handles in different conditions. And both of these improvements will be available for free if you own a copy of the game. Meanwhile, the Wild Ride add-on itself will add new car types and events to the affair β including motorbikes.
Personally, we reckon that we had our fill of this racer last Christmas, but this is some pretty impressive post-release support for those who are still playing. And if you're yet to pick the title up, well, you may want to wait until 17th November so that you can benefit from all of these improvements from the off.

It needs rockets and balls.
One of my biggest complaints with this game was the graphics so this is good news. It might actually make me go back and play it!
Are the going to add an update that makes it fun I found it boring driving across country. I also didn't like how the cars handled.
To make a competitive racing game they need to do something massively different. Why not make a real driving simulator? Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre, 3 point turns, hill starts and failing your test. Why hasn't this been done instant hit?
I didn't mind the graphics that much it was the terrible handling that made me hate this game
I dismissed this game when I was informed it had no local coop, no local coop no buy for racers.
So, in other words, just like Unity last year, this game was also rushed to launch? Oh Ubisoft.... It's pretty weak when a developer has to go back and rework their graphics engine nearly a year after it originally launched. Ubisoft should have just let them delay the game.
Already sold it. The the micro transaction encouragement and the slow money grinding made me feel like I was playing a f2p game..
It was the horrible handling that made me run away and never look back ! I don't care how pretty they try to make it look
Will it control any better? Will it actually be fun? What's the point of a graphics overhaul if it's not fun?
Yet another game ubisoft released unfinished. They aren't even bothered anymore because people just keep handing the cash over!
Does this mean low graphics settings will finally get a better frame rate than medium on PC? Cause all I ever did during the Beta was pull over and crank up Bloc Party really loud. In other words, it was an even more poorly optimized way to listen to Brit Rock than iTunes itself.
@themcnoisy I think you'll find that Euro Truck Simulator is coming out at some point, so a mate was pointing out...
After the relative success of Farm Sim, don't be too surprised to see something like ya suggested!
@themcnoisy
Atari kind of did it back in '89 with Hard Drivin'. The cabinet had an ignition key and clutch if you chose to drive manual. Pretty realistic for its time - we'll, apart from driving up a giant loop da loop!!π
@Neillybhoy77 Kind of, but set in a test environment. So you do 20+ lessons and then goto the license centre. Euro truck simulator is a good example.
@dellyrascal I remember Hard Driving, cant remember seeing the cab though. I mean like a full wheel with indicators and wipers, blowers and demisting, altering mirrors, blindspots, stalling that kind of thing.
These days I usually just use accelerate and brake with a touch of handbrake in games, I never use the handbrake to get round a corner in real life.
