It's another reasonably boring report on the latest Japanese sales charts this week we're afraid. With literally no new PlayStation releases to speak of in the top 20, the software charts are drearier than ever, but funnily enough, Sony's platforms have actually enjoyed a small boost in shifted units.
The PlayStation 4 sold through 18,503 machines, while Vita sales rose to 17,400. Nothing but a small increase from the prior week, that's for sure, but with a few relatively big titles on the way, it's perhaps no surprise that the hardware charts are seeing a slight bump - a trend which will hopefully continue as we move towards the end of the year.

It was Obon week in Japan last week so that's probably responsible for the hardware increase. Things should pick up soon with Metal Gear etc, though.
@get2sammyb I have no idea who or what Obon week is but thanks for answering my question before I asked it. Only X1 went down, MS needs to start worshipping at the altar of Obon.
Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer is a good example of why I have gone off Nintendo a lot over the last 5 years...
xbox one 195 lol
On the bright side, it's good to see great games doing well in Japan. And Splatoon and Fire Emblem Fates are both doing extremely well. Albeit they're on Nintendo playforms but a great game is a great game (can tell I'm a fan of Splatoon, just check the avatar).
All around increases in hardware too, which is nice too see
@JaxonH Stop being so unbiased, it's immoral and wrong!
Man, that top 5 is like the same as last week. Guess that increase on Wii U and Splatoon are linked.
quickly looks over the list only one of those 20 games I thought was decent, but got sick of it quick: Splatoon.
Until Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest come out, Japan will continue to play awful games
I've recently purchased a new Vita which Isn't my first, but I must admit I love it. While it doesn't have anywhere near the amount of first party or third party AAA's it deserves, what it does have it top notch. It also has a pretty damn big library of digital content.
Add to that remote play and PlayStation Now and you've got yourself are damn good dedicated handheld gaming device.
Now if Sony could seriously reduce the price of the memory cards it would be great.
To be honest, I was and have been a doubter of the Vita for some time which had nothing to do with the system itself. My doubts were due to Sony's lack of proper advertising and memory card pricing.
I actually believe that if Sony would atleast reduce the price of the cards and advertised it properly the Vita could start to sell again, which would atract developers once again... Maybe. Its still powerful enough to create some top AAA's. Its miles more powerful than the new Nintendo 3DS and it does way more too.
I wish we would get some western RPG's too as im not a massive fan of JRPG's.
Look at one of the Vita's launch titles, Uncharted. I love that game and I bet they could make a new Uncharted thats even better. I showed a friend who was a doubter of the Vita Killzone Mercenarys and it blew his mind. He now owns one. If Sony had adverts showing these types of games along with remote play and PlayStation Now I think it may just convince other to purchase the Vita. Surely the Vita deserves one more push to help give it new life and a new audience.
Yeah we have smart phones that are just as powerful if not more so, but they're no substitute for a dedicated gaming device. I have Duke Nukem 3D on both my Vita and my phone. It plays great on my Vita but its horrible on my phone.
The sales for the DS/3DS family of consoles as a whole are just mind-blowing. I genuinely don't understand how they keep the momentum - surely everybody in Japan has one by now??
@get2sammyb next week might be really sad thou :/
