Slowly but surely, the PlayStation 4 is becoming the console for Dreamcast fans. Hot on the heels of Shenmue III's crowd funding success, SEGA has announced that Phantasy Star Online 2 will be coming to the console in 2016. Those of you with long memories may remember the MMO launching on the PlayStation Vita a few years ago, so this makes sense.
Of course, the bad news is that it's only currently confirmed for Japan – but with Sony's industrious Third-Party Productions team already having a good relationship with SEGA, there's a small chance that the Japanese giant may foot the bill to get this localised overseas. Either way, the port will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show next month, so expect to see more then.

No chance!!! But I hope no region lock, at least =).
Sweet!! Now announce it coming to the west and this will easily be a day one purchase for me
Now all I need from Sega is for them to release a Sonic game for ps4, and not frickin the Wii U -_-
@Gemuarto all ps4 games are region free
@hYdeks Dragon's Dogma Online is not. Beta at least. But there is a big chance that final version will be region locked, too. Not sure about ps4, but they always can lock it through ip.
@Gemuarto well that sucks
I'd buy a Sonic Adventure-esque game for PS4, but I can't see it happening.
The game on PC has our IPs blocked, but I will still give it a shot on the PS4!
I've got at least 35-40 hours on the Japanese server before they blocked me.
@B3ND3R Sad =(
Phantasy star has always been one of those series of games that I've adored and given many hours of my time to.. As much as I hate to say it, I gave up on any hopes of this game coming to the west a long time ago. This has only reminded me of how disappointed I really am about not fully experiencing this potentially awesome game. Thanks Sega.
@Cyber-BLP-- sonic colors sold around 2.18 million while sonic generations sold over 3 million Sonic isn't better on just Nintendo systems either because Sonic lost world only sold 710,000. There's a market for sonic across all platforms (except pc).
@LukeNI yea, sega says they lost consumer trust and want to rebuild it, but they never give us the games we want, or they put the games on systems we don't want then on (Sonic games on mobile and on Nintendo consoles, for example).
Man, I can't believe it. Just the other day someone online made a joke about this being announced and here it is. I loved the original PSO. I played it loads on the DC, GC and Xbox.
Also a Western release isn't as crazy as it might seem given that about 23 million of the 25 million PS4 owners are outside of Japan.
@Matroska We can dream. The only thing is they keep making add-ons for this game, so I guess it's a localisation commitment if they're going to bring overseas, as they have to keep it up to date.
I hope it happens, though. I love PSO.
@GraveLordXD No it's not the same - it's a full-blown sequel that's free to play in Japan. It's pretty different - check out some YT vids to see for yourself. I miss the charm of the old version but would absolutely love to play this if it got an English language release. PLEASE SEGA. PLEASE.
@GraveLordXD It's the sequel. You are referring to episodes 1 and 2 of the first game.
Honestly, I'd prefer a remastering of the old PSO games on dreamcast and gamecube. The more MMO like structure here just reminds me of the other action MMOs that've been released by NCsoft in the last few years.
