It comes as no surprise whatsoever to learn that Persona 5 is going to have a big presence at this year's Tokyo Game Show, but we're rather excited in any case. The highly anticipated Japanese role-playing game is supposed to be releasing this year in both Japan and North America, but honestly, we're still incredibly sceptical - especially of the latter.
Regardless of how we feel, though, Atlus has confirmed that a special stage event is coming to the expo, which will take place on the 19th September. It'll apparently feature live music, a panel, and - we imagine - a big chunk of information on Persona 5. We reckon it's safe to say that this event will boast a release date of some description - there are only a few months left in the year, after all.
What are your hopes and fears for Persona 5? Is it really coming out this year in North America? Is it even coming out this year in Japan? Demand answers in the comments section below.

besides FF15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 this is definitely my ultimate Most Wanted of 2016 - my expectations are sky high, since the predecessors, especially Persona4, are milestones of the genre and cult classics
They're definitely running short on time now, especially considering how little has been shown so far! However, as @consolfreak1982 said, it looks absolutely stunning and is sure to be a great game no matter what, so delaying it into 2016 wouldn't be the end of the world!
There is a God.
Yeah, I'm going to be a downer and say that we're getting a trailer that has '2016' on the end of it.
I think I'm the only person in the world that didn't get into Persona 4 and I think that game alone has made me realise I've gone off JRPG's.
It's a real shame as I wanted to like it so badly, but it just didn't 'click' with me. Loved the music though!
@Dodoo really? P4 is my favorite game of all time and it got me into JRPG's. That's two totally different points of view. Ha. But I can't wait to get a release date. I say it'll come out in Japan and U.S. Early December
My fears - how often does a game get released within 3 months after the announcement of the release date anyway?
My hopes - it gets release this year.
@Cowboysfan-22 Have you played Persona 3 FES? I like both P3:FES and P4 but I preferred P3:FES's story more compared to P4. However, I like the character designs from P4 better.
@Cowboysfan-22 lol yeah two totally different points of view.
I think after hearing so much praise about the game I went in with too much expectation. I appreciated the high production values but ultimately found it boring.
Glad I'm the minority though and most people loved it like you did
Atlus > Square Enix
Atlus actually releases a good amount of their games. Square Enix on the other hand...
@WanderingBullet I have played P3FES and it was great too. Probably in my top 5. I played it after I played P4. I like how it had a darker tone rather than P4's upbeat tone.
@dodoo yea I hear you. I think the reason I love it so much is because I had never heard of it before I got it. I got a Vita and P4G was by far the best rated game for it so I got it. I had no idea what the story, gameplay, etc was gonna be like. When I realized it was kind of a mature rated Pokemon (turn based with element powers) I fell in love with it. And how the personas are deities from all over the world is really cool. And I felt like I kinda made a connection with the characters if that makes sense
I finally played P4G earlier this year (my first Persona game) and absolutely loved it. Really excited for this one!
I would love to get this game this year, but I won't cry too much if we get it next year.
It's been a while since I played a Persona game. I played Persona 4 on release but I lost it, so it's been some time. I want a Vita just for Golden.
After mgs - fallout then persona - gaming heaven right there. Unchartered thrown in and that's a hell a lot of gaming.
I don't mind that much if it only comes out in NA this year. I'll import it anyway and save money in the process. I just hope that they really promote it and start showcasing some of these Playstation exclusive games in the West. They're usually quite niche and so they don't get talked about as things that you can only play on Playstation (or PC in some cases) but games like Toukiden Kiwami, Pirate Warriors, Tales of Zestiria, SAO Hollow Fragment and Lost Song, Disgaea 5 and Persona 5 are some of my favourite games/most anticipated games and the reasons I got a PS4 in the first place in some cases.
We also have this mysterious Kingdom Hearts 2.9 that's been mentioned, only for PS3 and PS4.
"Are you feeling it now Mr. Krabs?"
I sure am!
@Dodoo try the devil summoner series or person 3 fes. It's dark and grimy I think youll like that style of jrpg. Persona 4 was too happy go lucky for some people.
@consolfreak1982 but it's confirmed 2015.... I pestered Atlus enough and they swear 2015. It may be a simultaneous release worldwide too... Except for Europe of course.
@NomNom @Cowboysfan-22 Yea, same here. I really liked both the darker tone and the ending for P3FES.
If you're into animes there's the Persona 4: The Animation (series) as well both Persona 3 the Movie #1 and Persona 3 the Movie #2 that you can check out.
Not sure if Persona is inspired by JoJo's Bizarre Adventures manga series but you can see some similarities there. JoJo's Bizarre Adventures (OVA) is worth checking out as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JoJo%27s_Bizarre_Adventure_(OVA)
@WanderingBullet I have always stayed away from Jojo the name doesn't inspire confidence in me to try it. I'm not entirely sure where they got the idea for persona. But its loosely based on tarots and mythology so yeah.
@B3ND3R - yes, im aware of the fact that it has a 2015 release date - but only for japan and us
but since Im from austria/europe I doubt P5 will release here before spring 2016
@NomNom I really liked the JoJo's Bizarre Adventures OVA. Watched it a long time ago even before I played P3FES. As far as similarities are concerned, I always thought that the Personas were kinda like the Stands from JoJo but someone on Gamefaqs posted this:
"The Arcana came from Part 3 of Jojo, as did the Personas.
The Evokers for P3 came from Star Platinum's first appearance when Jotaro shoots himself in the head.
The plot of P4 is basically the plot of JoJo part 4."
@WanderingBullet no offence mate but quoting an online forum is like cherry picking the bible for quotes. You got anything from Devs or professionals/articles?
I can happily wait till 2016 for this. Only played Q, but that got me intrigued in the series so will start proper on this, though as an inevitable time sink in happy for it to come out in a less congested time. Xenoblade X will have to feed the jrpg gap for me this year.
Can't wait to fuse some HD persona!
@NomNom @NomNom Sorry, if I did I would've posted that link instead of grabbing a random quote. Anyways, you'll be surprised how many people see the similarities between the two. I think there are images of Persona characters posing like JoJo characters as well.
This one was taken from Persona Q:

@WanderingBullet fine you sold me. Damn curiosity
So you know where o can watch these Jojo episodes.
@NomNom Uhm, not sure to be honest, maybe YouTube? The OVA's very old and the most recent JoJo's Bizarre Adventures: Stardust Crusaders (2014-2015) anime series isn't really that good imo.
Does it really matter if it's not released in Pal territories this year? As long as it's released it the US, we can import it! That's the main thing.
@Wesker nope, doesnt really matter, since there are plenty of other games still coming out this fall/winter, especially in the RPG genre - besides, europeans are used to have to wait much longer for such games to be released in the territory officially (compared to JP and US of course) - as a PAL Version, impatient gamers can import like you said
September 19? Saving the best for last, I see.
A release date is literally all I care about at this point. Though a limited edition for NA would be nice too.
@Wesker Exactly ^_^
