Sony announced this week that it will be dropping the price of the PlayStation 4 in Japan and much of Asia next month, and it looks like the strategy will extend to the UK as well. While the platform holder's being a little more subtle about things on these shores, Eurogamer.net received confirmation from SCEE that two Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection bundles will hit these shores on 9th October – and the 500GB option will retail for £299.99.
This is important because the RRP of the console has remained at £349.99 since launch, save for the odd weekend promotion here and there. It's worth noting that the 1TB version of the abovementioned bundle will sell for the slightly more expensive £329.99, but this is, once again, lower than the machine's original mark-up price. Both bundles will utilise the lighter, less power hungry CUH-1200 hardware model, which has lowered manufacturing costs.
The reason that we suspect Sony's not going overboard about this is because you can already buy a PS4 in the UK for less than £299.99 if you shop around, which doesn't make this particularly important news. But because of the uniquely competitive nature of the UK high street, you're likely to see retailers go much lower than ever before if this does represent an RRP reduction across the product's entire line. Of course, we'll still need to see if the rest of Europe and North America follow suit. It's looking likely now, isn't it?

With this bundle coming out at an RRP of £299.99 and the amazing line-up for 2016, I think the PS4 is going to have an incredible year.
That's nice. Now if only I was interested in Uncharted XD Where's the Ratchet and Clank bundle? Or Sony mentioning that game, instead of letting Insomniac do it all the time?
@Volcanox I imagine Ratchet & Clank will get a big push as the movie's shaping up to be a pretty big deal.
@get2sammyb Well its gone under the radar and the £30 price tag in GAME of all places has the words budget title written all over it, in addition to how Sony isn't pushing a good looking game for once. If it IS a budget title, then please give Insomniac more money just to see what they can do with it
Can you recommend Uncharted? I'm not sure if I want to take the plunge on something I may or may not like. My history with Tomb Raider is....lets not.
@Volcanox I absolutely love the Uncharted games, personally. Great stories, amazing set-pieces, and quality combat encounters (most of the time). It's just a really quality series.
If you like third-person shooters, I'd definitely recommend.
This is kind of Meh considering PS4s bundled with games are being sold frequently by retailers for less than £300.
@get2sammyb I do enjoy third person shooters, that is a guarantee, but I'm worried about the not shooty. Namely the puzzles and the exploring and the grim possibility of asking the dangerous question: "When does this end?"
I don't know, Ill have to simmer on it. I might just buy a 1TB PS4 on its own and go for indies until R&C drops into my life for a blind Let's Play and a one sitting playthrough.
Here, while techically PS4 still costs the launch price (409 euros), for this euros you can choose to get the 1TB model or the 500GB with Phantom Pain or Driveclub. So you get more for your money. I paid 409 euros for the 500GB model 4 months after the launch and some little more to update the hdd to 1TB+8GB SSD hybrid disk.
Edit: I checked around. You can buy a Wii U for 190 (!) euros (seriously I would get one if I hadn't got one for 220 euros), xbox one 500GB model for 320 euros, Vita TV for 62 euros (may get one for this price), Vita 2000 model for 159 euros and small new 3DS for 175 euros.
@Volcanox
From its original announcement, Ratchet & Clank has been said to be a re-imaging of the first game. If that's case, it better damn well be budget priced because even though the first R&C is one of my favorite platformers ever I'm not paying full price for a remake, re-imaging, remaster or whatever fancy marketing word they want to throw around. I've seen videos and the game actually seems pretty awesome, but still, full price for something that isn't entirely new? I wouldn't have paid that for Gears Ultimate, which is a remake to my favorite third person shooter of all-time, so I'd have to pass on R&C as well. I think the game will be good, but I also think something has gone on in the relationship between Sony and Insomniac and maybe that's effecting marketing? It wouldn't make a ton of sense, but I've seen a lot of nonsensical stuff happen over the years.
@Gamer83 I...don't know what's going on but I don't mind the £30 price tag, I just think that a budget title should be coming out at £40-£50 tops. £30? That's low end 3DS price. That's damn near physical indie price even. And that terrifies me.
Then again Sony has been keen to push away from the kiddy image, at the cost of one of the PS2's bigger franchises and a series that is frequently heralded as both engaging gameplay wise and graphical great, even in the dodgy days of early PS3.
Yeah, I've seen PS4's going for lower than the new MSRP, but hopefully that means that the store prices will drop even more.
3 AMAZING Words on that Box -
SONY
UNCHARTED
&
PS4
Hmm, i don't need another PS4 but that box makes me want another one(& i think it's the Newer PS4's to which i wouldn't mind to)
@get2sammyb Sammy what do you think the chances are we will get a new Ratchet, Sly or Jak for PS4?
Sony seem to be a bit less interested in those type games this gen (though I know we're getting the Ratchet remake)
If a price drop comes to the US, I will finally crack down and buy one. The Uncharted Collection will keep my occupied for a long time and I have been dying to play Bloodborne. And with Gravity Rush, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 4, and Horizon Zero Dawn all coming out next year, I'll be more than satisfied. Seriously, a $300 PS4 bundle with the Uncharted Collection will force me to buy the system.
@get2sammyb Holy crap, they are finally releasing a 1TB version of the lighter, less power hungry CUH-1200 hardware model?
@Jazzer94 Sure, but a lower RRP will mean retailers go even lower. It's how the UK works.
@Jazzer94 I have to agree, the ps4 can be found cheap as is. question is how cheap can it get?
Wait, you mean this game, doesn't even get it's own faceplate? I'm sure the bundle would sell twice as many if it looked any different. I mean it's a collection but isn't it still en excuse to sell more? No? Ok, I'll be quiet.
Keep dropping that price! I'm not buying a PS4 until November.
