It won the Vote to Play poll on the PlayStation 4, but there's more good news for Grow Home's botanical bot BUD, as the platformer has become Ubisoft's fastest ever download on PlayStation formats. The game exceeded 1.5 million "sales" within its first week β but this success can of course be attributed to the fact that it was given away for free to PlayStation Plus members.
"We are thrilled that BUD has found a new home in the PS4 community," chuffed producer Pete Young said in a statement. "Grow Home was a great opportunity for our team to experiment and develop new technology and have fun at the same time." Given the amount of PS4s in the wild, we reckon that the biggest story here is that most subscribers clearly don't redeem their goodies.
Either way, this is good news for the experimental adventure, as we really liked it in our review. "There are some niggling control issues," our scribe Kell Andersen explained, "but the stunning presentation and subtle soundtrack round things out, ultimately making for a satisfying and adorable game." We awarded it a well deserved 8/10.

How does PS+ workswith freebies, does Sony "pays" for the game ?
To be fair Sammy when I tried to download it days after the game changes it wouldn't let me, I've never had this issue before but maybe it affected some, that said guess it won't change the figures much even if 10% had this issue
I really tried to like this game, but I don't
lol I'm sure it has a lot to do with it being free at launch
It was certainly the fastest downloaded by me. It only took an hour earlier today I was amazed.
@Faruko Yeah, Sony agrees a rate with the developer, and pays them based on the number of downloads the game gets. (I believe.)
I would imagine the rate that Sony pays is very low, but the reality is that they make more money through the giveaway than they would launching at full price. Plus, in the case of something like Rocket League, if you've got a good game it can basically put the brand on the map.
I absolutely hated this game. Controls were awful
Really enjoyed it. Shame some here weren't skilful enough to control it! Lolz π
Maybe now we'll get an expansion to climb to 4000m?
If I could undownload it I would, was a extra dull octodad clone.
I did download it ! Just haven't played it .....
Just shows that Ubisoft should start making smaller, more abstract and imaginative games like this
@Neolit lol well said!
I think the floaty controls not only give B.U.D character but also give the game an increase in difficulty too. Without which it might be too easy. Anyway like you said it gets easier the more you upgrade him anyway and the controls even feel normal at that point!
Personally I loved the chilled out gameplay, the uniqueness of it all and the feeling of vertigo you got when climbing!
@Anchorsam_9 Yeah when they do they are awesome. I loved Child of Light and Rayman Origins/Legends too!
this game is garbage , nearly 95% of my friends that downloaded it played it and deleted it in a day . the numbers are a joke it was free so every one just got it if they were going to try it or not . if it was only out and being sold it would have bombed big time
@themcnoisy it took a hour to download WTf it download for me in 11 minutes , is your internet real bad or are you in Australia because my cousins net is so bad out there in his area its like dial up in this part of Canada.
