It's been a different kind of week here at Push Square Towers, as we've been out on the road sampling all of the gaming morsels on display at EGX 2015 this weekend. Hopefully we managed to tide you over with a hearty helping of hands-on impressions, though, from Mirror's Edge Catalyst right the way through to Ratchet & Clank. Here are all of the stories that you need to see.
Reviews
SOMA - 8/10
SOMA's an interesting release that succeeds and stumbles in areas that we didn't expect it to. Indeed, given the developer's track record, we'd anticipated a terrifying title – but while it has its eerie moments, it's a bit of a disappointment as a horror game. Where it's more successful is in its ability to depict the moral challenges of AI, and this subject matter results in some of the tougher decisions that we've seen in a game for a while. The plot is compelling, the presentation is generally very good, and the conclusion is outstanding. But all of these achievements will be tempered if you're looking for the kind of scares that defined Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
Destiny: The Taken King - 8/10
Destiny: The Taken King rolls all of the lessons that Bungie has learned over the last 12 months into one expensive but excellent fix, and the result is a game that finally feels whole. The fresh content is some of the best that the title has to offer, while the numerous reworked systems breathe new life into an experience that has been struggling to find solid ground. The Taken King lights the way forward for the sci-fi shooter, and while it's not the brightest of glows, it's clear that Destiny's darkest days are over.

First Impressions: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Is PS4 Gold
You didn't think that Sony was going to treat its flagship franchise poorly, did you? A lot's been said and written about the PlayStation 4's exclusive lineup this Christmas, but Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is no slouch. The remastered compilation of Naughty Dog's iconic adventuring trilogy looks and plays the part – and is sure to represent the centrepiece in many a gaming buffet this holiday.
First Impressions: How Well Does Assassin's Creed Syndicate Run on PS4?
After Assassin's Creed Unity launched in shameful condition on the PlayStation 4 last year, there's been much discussion over how 2015's follow up, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, will run on Sony's home console. After the beating that Unity took, you'd assume that Ubisoft would do its best to ensure that Syndicate performs well on a technical level, but according to recent reports, the latest tale of Assassins versus Templars is disappointingly shoddy.

Don't Hold Your Breath for a New PlayStation Handheld
Sony's more or less ruled out the possibility of a new portable PlayStation platform, as Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida told an audience at EGX 2015 this week that the market "climate is not healthy" for dedicated handheld gaming devices right now. Quizzed by a fan on whether the PlayStation Vita could ever get a successor, the likeable suit told a packed panel that while his team has enjoyed working on the system, the mobile sector is a different beast these days.
