Sony's having no problem shifting PlayStation 4s around the world, but Japan has been reluctant to adopt the new-gen system. It's perhaps no surprise to see the console reduced in the region, then, with today's pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference confirming that the device's asking price will drop from ¥39,980 to ¥34,980 starting 1st October.
For those of you without a grasp on Japanese finance, the new price works out at about $292 or £189, so it's now significantly cheaper in the manufacturer's home nation. Whether this move foreshadows a global price drop or not remains to be seen, but with more and more Japanese developers supporting the system, it should increase domestic sales either way.

nice. Hope the price drop comes to other nations as well.
Im not sure there will be a global price drop though, the ps4 its doing well enough in the west at the price it has right now.
Equivalent to £189! That's insanely cheap.
Imagine how many they would sell in EU/US at that price!
Wow £189 pounds that's so cheap. It's still upwards of 400 Euro over here. I'm expecting a price drop at the Paris conference.
That means it'll be about £60 less than the "premium" Wii U is in Europe. That's insane given the Wii U is basically decade old tech that's selling like packets of warm crap.
Not like Xbox ONE would still have a chance in Japan. PS4 will continue to rule no matter what price it is but this will probably make people who haven't gotten one yet to go get it. So much stuff's coming out that the JP market will enjoy to. Thanks to Square Enix.
Hopefully this means the PS4 will permadrop down to $300 New in the U.S. by Black Friday 2016.
