After two weeks of selling next to nothing, the PlayStation 4 is finally back on top of the Japanese charts following its very recent price cut. Sony's home console shifted a very respectable 46,177 units last week, and with any luck, the company will be hoping that the price reduction will have a continuous impact as we move closer to the holiday period.
Meanwhile, things aren't quite as hopeful on the software side of things. New role-playing release Tokyo Xanadu had a moderately strong launch on Vita as it jumped in at number one, while PES 2016: Pro Evolution Soccer scored in second and third, on PS3 and PS4 respectively - although none of these titles enjoyed particularly brilliant numbers. Elsewhere, Mad Max entered in 11th, and Arslan: The Warriors of Legend really underperformed in 16th and 17th, selling through just over 20,000 combined copies on both new-gen and last-gen systems.

Why are we so bothered about sales in Japan? Surely if it's not doing well, they will stop putting effort into pigeon dating games and concentrate on games western audiences will enjoy!!!
@Bridgeman It's more complicated than that, if PS4 don't sell nothing on Japan, it's very possible that we see Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and more japanese awesomeness shifting back towards Nintendo. Just look at 3DS, Monster Hunter, Bravely Default, Shin Megami Tensei, and a lot more.
@Frank90 I could live without all those titles, but I see your point!
@Bridgeman Just because you don't enjoy Japanese games doesn't mean that others don't.
@Bridgeman what's wrong with pigeon dating?
@get2sammyb I thought it was ok to have an opinion on here? And I did say I saw his point.
@themcnoisy I'm taken
A fantastic week for PS4 in Japan. Of course this was expected but, it's still fantastic nonetheless.
Does Dragon Quest Warriors release next week in Japan? If so, expect the PS4 numbers to stay very high.
A vita title in the top software spot?! sweet
It actually did more during the week of MGS V's release and then we saw how quickly those numbers fell off the cliff. We'll see how long this bump lasts.
@Bridgeman that pigeon dating game was pretty funny, but yes, they're irrelevant
May get some stick for this but Japanese games are stupid, boring, weird, insane and well... Crap
@mikey85
Different strokes for differently folks. I'm sure they think the same of a lot of our games. Anyway, of course you're entitled to your opinion but to write off all games from any region is a bit nonsensical, imo. There are plenty of good Japanese games that aren't any of what you described.
