Geralt will be wearing a rather wry smile right now as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt pretty much dominated this year's Golden Joystick Awards. The annual awards are based on public voting, so it's safe to say that the games which end up winning have usually had a big impact on the gaming community.
CD Projekt Red's role-playing release, which launched back in May, nabbed four awards including Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, Best Gaming Moment, and the biggest prize of all: Ultimate Game of the Year. Batman: Arkham Knight and Life is Strange ended up in second and third, respectively. Meanwhile, the developer itself took home the award for Studio of the Year. The latter is especially well deserved in our humble opinion.
Not bad, eh? Do you agree with the voting public? Have a good old rant in the comments section below.

Great stuff, loving the game even though I have fatigue at the moment with it, need to do some Driveclub or PvZ for a bit before I attempt to finish it....
1 thing they need to streamline is the inventory system....its archaic....
Couldn't agree more with this result. I voted for The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne in most categories but when it comes to GOTY and Best Studio, its got to be Witcher & CD Project Red for me
Wild Hunt is my all time greatest game, the first game I've ever loved more than Breath of Fire IV on PSOne 😂
The Witcher 3 》Journey
......but seriously, The Witcher 3 is one of the best games of the decade so far.
Yes. I put The Witcher on the same level as, Kotor, Never Winter Nights, Mass Effect 2. So it's probably one of the best West Rpg ever made and one of the best games ever.
Loved it, we'll done. GOTY so far. Haven't played bloodborne or phantom pain yet though.
Well deserved!
I guess that answers my "how to fill out the 100$ sale?" question. Off I go to buy it
Well deserved for the Witcher, probably the best RPG I've ever played and I love that you feel that you're having a real impact on the world and the story is excellent. No idea why Batman is anywhere near the top, good game almost ruined by the millions of drone battles and a pretty poor bad guy (not scarecrow, the other one) and I'm a huge Batman fan, but this is simply not as good as Asylum.
My personal top 3 this year is Witcher 3, Rocket League and Until Dawn, with the first 2 having excellent post launch support from some great devs
It's definitely the best game so far.
Yeah the witcher 3 was absolutely amazing and I agree with this up until now but what I don't get is why this happened so early, there are still some really big heavy hitters to release this year and I mean obviously fallout 4 has a real shot at dethroning the witcher. Why wouldn't they wait until the end of 2015 so they could include all games released this year?
It's amazing. GOTY. Only game that has a chance is fallout and even it has mighty shoes to fill.
TW3 might even be the GOTGeneration. The world they've created is stunning and CDPR has raised the bar for every RPG to come.
Where's Disgaea 5? Or Geometry Wars 3? Or ROCKET LEAGUE!!! Pffft golden joystick awards pfffft.
Awesome.
I just don't get it. I tried to like the witcher 3. It just didn't do it for me. Plus it had some faults that nobody wants to admit. I've seen so many people say that they lost interest before finishing it or got burnt out. I didn't even come close to finishing. To me a great game keeps you hooked until the end and then you start again.
@tenderbeefcake Yeah but clearly it's kept many people hooked until the end and they've started over with new game plus. Heck, I'm actually really looking forward to my second playthrough during the holidays.
But it is a shame when you just don't enjoy a 'big' game as much as others. Obviously I have to play a crapload of games, and when I see people raving about something I think it is a bit rubbish, it can definitely get frustrating.
That said, if we all liked the exact same games, I'd argue this would be a pretty boring industry!
Witcher 3 definitely deserves those awards and then some, incredible game.
I also agree with @themcnoisy that games as great as Rocket League deserve some awards as well. But as I recall with Golden Joysticks, the choices of games you can vote for are strangely very limited.
Its definitely a worthy winner in my opinion. There hasn't been a game to rival it in terms of story, content, scale and visuals all combined in one game!
I understand there has to be a cut-off date somewhere, but it really annoys me when something is declared 'game of the year', when the year isn't even finished. Not saying the Witcher 3 doesn't deserve it, but there's still games like Fallout 4, Halo 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Xenoblade Chronicles X on the horizon (though fat chance for the latter. A Nintendo game? Getting the honours? Perish the thought).
@Kage_88 Whilst I agree in principal, its not necessarily fair on games that are released in the last month or 2 before Christmas. It also helps push sales in the run-up to the holiday season for those already released games too.
If you help this in the first month of the year, Some games may not be fairly considered - Maybe something like Fallout 4 for example as a lot of people haven't experienced it or played enough of it to consider voting for it.
I wonder if the fact that games such as the Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight will see a resurgence of sales with the holiday sasonapproaching and a lot of new releases due too.
I do think its funny when games, albums etc have next years date on them - Like Fifa/PES 2016. We also have best of year albums/books etc that come out in October to cash in on the Christmas market.
I guess if you help these awards in 2016, they would need to be held in Feb/March time and certain releases (like maybe Bloodbourne) could get overlooked because its been over a year since they released.
With so many different organisers of awards though, there can b quite a few 'Game of the Years'
@BAMozzy Yeah, those are good points. Hype and marketing definitely play a role in all this.
Well, at least the awards were voted by the public - which takes away any bias in proceedings.
