Even though this author isn't necessarily the biggest fan of Japanese role-playing games, it's really nice to see the genre infiltrating this week's UK sales charts. FIFA 16 was top yet again with Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection finishing second β but Tales of Zestiria landed a surprise strike on eighth, while Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below [Urgh β Ed] finished up in 18th place.
There was more good news for fans of niche games as Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance also charted, securing 28th position all to itself. And alarmingly decent rally racer WRC 5 skidded into 12th place. An all-around pleasant week for fans of variety, then β even if the top ten was dominated by Destiny: The Taken King, Grand Theft Auto V, and all of the usual suspects.
Will Assassin's Creed Syndicate be able to dethrone FIFA 16 next week? We're not convinced.

I wonder how Guitar hero live will do, seems like there is more hype for that than RB4.
@Not-Another-Ad Rock Band 4 did very poorly as far as I can tell, so I guess it can't do much worse! XD
I can't say any of the 3 new jrpg titles have appealed greatly, I started my oreshika campaign on vita yesterday and so far I'm impressed.
Great stuff!
Nice to see some different titles placing well for a change! Must admit, I am rather tempted by Zestiria. I'm not sure I should be buying any more console RPGs for the time being though, as I struggle to find time to finish them at the moment (still practically nowhere in The Witcher 3). I'm hoping to quit work and go to uni next year, so at least if I get in I'll have some extra long holidays where I can devote time to my RPG backlog!
Surprised by Zestiria, that's somewhat refreshing.
@ShogunRok Don't worry, estimates show it sold less than 6,000 units!
For me its all about western RPG's. I love RPG's like Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I've never found a JRPG that I like the look of, which is a shame as I have a Vita which doesn't do western RPG's, only JRPG's.
I wish I could get into them as I would probably become addicted to my Vita.
@get2sammyb I was actually thinking that Zestiria's good position was due to poor sales overall (not that the game itself isn't good, I'm definitely going to pick it up). There's enough good games to play at the moment and everybody's waiting for good deals before Xmas.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi that game is great. Refreshing spin on the genre
@get2sammyb Ah, that makes sense. It'll be long gone by next week then.
"Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below"
Some Japanese game titles are bananas!
Gaming in the UK is such a depressing thing to think about. I tend to forget about it since when you're online, most other English speakers aren't from here. One look at the charts and I feel like I'm in CeX watching some filthy Chav trade in a pushchair full of PS2 and 360 games (including every FIFA from the past two decades) for 10p each so he can go and buy some heroin and pass out in his council flat while his pit bull mauls his baby to death.
Thank god for the internet. Halo 5 is the #1 game on Amazon UK and has been for ages. Pop over to the German Amazon and it's down at #24, just before Zestiria and only a bit before DQH. Those two are nowhere to be found in the UK top 100 which is basically just CoD, Ass Creed and FIFA all the way down with other licensed shit filling in the gaps. They're both in the US Amazon top 100 along with more varied things that aren't in the UK chart at all such as a DBZ game on the 3DS and interesting things like Mario Maker being more popular than Star Wars Battlefront.
@Matroska I bet you're a barrel of laughs at a party.
@Dodoo To be fair, the title is about as bananas as the whole game's concept. Dragon Quest has no business being such a good fit for Dynasty Warriors-style gameplay, but there it is. It's a shame it hasn't sold better, but there have been multiple Dynasty Warriors style games released on PS4 in the past few months, with One Piece and Saint Seiya's crossovers instantly coming to mind.
@Matroska I work with people who buy consoles solely for FIFA. I have seen, first hand, the exact reason why the UK gaming marketplace is so poorly regarded by most people. Frankly, I don't give a toss. They can keep buying expensive consoles solely for FIFA, while I enjoy the wealth of great games the rest of the industry has to offer.
Also, aren't you the guy who posts the same thing every damn week?
Disgaea is complicated. Cant wait to study it forensically as part of a Disgaea degree which takes five years without sleep. Level 99,999 here I come.....
Really excited. Just found out my Tales of Zesteria Collector's Edition is rolling up to my door tomorrow afternoon!!
@stevejcrow What kind of parties do you go to where the focus is talking about videogame charts in the UK?
