Truly great downloadable content doesn't come around very often, but The Last of Us: Left Behind is a rare example of an add-on pack that lived up to the legacy of the campaign that it was expanding. Having got the bug for single player expansions, Naughty Dog announced recently that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End would receive some post-release story content – and it may be just as experimental as its previous attempt.
Without delving into too many specifics, Ellie and Riley's self-contained adventure deviated from the core survival horror blueprint of The Last of Us, serving up some prolonged non-combat scenarios and many original twists on the title's core gameplay. And the developer's happy that those aspects resonated, because it's looking to do something similar with its Uncharted 4: A Thief's End add-on.
Seeing as the main game isn't complete yet, it seems unlikely that this expansion will amount to anything more than ideas at this point, but we're pretty confident that Nathan Drake won't be the main character. A side-story involving a younger Sully would probably be interesting, but we'd personally prefer a plot starring either Elena or Chloe in the lead role. Either way, we have faith that the Californian company will come up with something cool.

Really? You'd go with Chloe or Elena over Sully? They're good characters but Sully is a bit of a fan favourite.
@Johnnycide Personally, I'd go for Chloe or Elena, yeah. I think you could do something really interesting with Elena in particular - like, have her shooting camera footage rather than people. She could be doing a report or something, and that would be a massive change of pace.
My worry with a younger Sully is that it will be too similar to the main game. Drake is, after all, a younger Sully.
@get2sammyb I'd do a kind of young Indiana Jones Chronicles involving a young Nate kind of thing and being more puzzle and exploration based.
Elena is my favorite from the series so anything involving her would be fine by me. That said I still feel it will be about Sully which isn't a bad thing either.
@get2sammyb that's actually a superb idea. I do think the tendency with Sully could be "more of the same", but chloe in particular is a female Drake.
Obviously we don't know too much about the plot yet, but what about Nate's brother? A single player DLC giving him a decent background (like Left Behind did) would be interesting.
If there's any Dev who can be trusted to deliver its Naughty Dog though.
@adf86 I would love that. Nate is a "street kid from Jersey" so this could be a good option.
"Seeing as the main game isn't complete yet, it seems unlikely that this expansion will amount to anything more than ideas at this point...."
Come on guys, this a bit naive don't you think? You don't have to criticize the fact they're announcing story DLC way before the game is even out: these sort of practices are normal in this day and age, it is totally fair because of the huge budgets of these games, it makes sure there is work for everyone in the team during the entire development- cycle and ND had shown that they offer value for your extra money.... but to suggest they don't know exactly what the DLC will be about is kinda silly.
The game is done and they're just polishing it a bit and the extra story DLC was part of the initial plans, the script is written and I wouldn't be surprised if it's more or less finished by the time Uncharted releases. No tin foil hat conspiracies or something and like I said I think it CAN BE a totally fair practice, but that's how these huge studios work: they don't leave anything up to chance.
@Boerewors Completely agree, all this is planned out well in advance. Just like I believe Bethesda already knows what their story DLC will be for fallout, even if they say they do not. To much money involved to use the wait and see approach.
what about actually playing as Francis Drake... I know is not nate's real ancesto but still would be kinda cool
@SonyInfinity @Boerewors The comments in the interview suggest they don't know what they're going to make yet. You're probably right that they do have a general direction mapped out, but I'd be surprised if they'd properly started working on it yet. Development on Left Behind didn't begin until after the main game shipped, for example.
@get2sammyb
Although we can't check that, it sounds plausible enough; TLOU was expected to sell Puppeteer amounts at first, instead of the millions it did. But Sony is betting Uncharted 4, the biggest blockbuster PS has next to GT at the moment, to sell 8- 10 million units and you better believe they know exactly what they're doing.
Especially with story DLC it's so much easier if you plan ahead and you usually find content that was cut out the original due to time or money constraints. In the old days it would serve as the basis for the next installment in the series or even a unrelated game with the same-ish theme, nowadays it becomes DLC.
I didn't mean to offend you guys by the way, but there usually is a huge discrepancy between the statements they release and the reality
If it were a lesser known property, I could probably agree that they don't know the direction of any future DLC, but being UC4, I feel pretty certain they at least have it laid out, even if they aren't started making it yet. So you are correct Sir Sammy. Uncharted is so important to Sony, probably their biggest franchise at the moment.
Having story DLC to a game that is supposed to end a story-focused series makes it likely that it'll be a prequel or otherwise largely removed from however UC4 ends.
It's incredibly unlikely that we'll be playing as Nate in a time chronologically after UC4's base ending.
@Boerewors
This is exactly how I feel. It's a insult to our intelligence to suggest this DLC which is 6 months from now is only concept. I'm sure the single player DLC is already thought out and even done with the writing. I wouldn't even doubt if all these games with season passes and DLC that the content is done then released later on and pretended as if it was done post production.
I'll definitely get it if they go the comedy route.
Sully as a playable character in the standalone DLC? Mhm, Yes please!!
So then a very young version of Nate showing us those small beginnings when he very first met Sully?
