While the PlayStation Vita may be looking bloody and bruised in North America and Europe these days, it remains a very viable format in Japan. And that's resulted in the announcement of a new game from Marvelous, which is a rad looking beat-'em-up from Senran Kagura producer Keinchiro Takaki named Uppers.
In dreary anime fashion, the title's set on an isolated island where fighting has become the main form of entertainment. It's a pretty drab setup, but we're loving the look of the game's Streets of Rage-esque setting. Combat will be context sensitive so you won't necessarily need to learn complex button combos, but it looks like there'll be ample variety – one screen shows an enemy being taken out by the geyser erupting from a broken fire hydrant.
The release is due out next spring in Japan, but there's no word on a Western release just yet. We reckon that it looks pretty darn palatable, though, so will likely take the trip to North America and Europe. Are you eager to join the fracas? Throw the first punch in the comments section below.

This looks pretty cool!
being a massive double dragon fan since it was unleashed in arcades all those years ago this makes my insides tingle.....a little bit at least.
Looks very cool, almost like something from the Dreamcast era.
Cool, need a proper beat em up without too much flash, hordes of bad guys and some skill involved. Keeping an eye on this one.
If this is anything like kenka bancho badass rumble then I will definitely enjoy this.
Not sure about this yet but I'm happy to fill up my vita with obscure fighters than generic space shooting/racing junk.
I've been using the service, PlayStation Now on my Vita. While not all games work as good as I'd like because of the lack of shoulder buttons, I am having alot of fun with it. I hope that Sony eventually add PS1, PS2 and Vita games to the service as its a great fit and also gives the Vita a longer life.
