Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida signs off on every PlayStation 4 exclusive – but there's so much in development that the affable executive's lost count. Speaking on PlayStation France's Twitter account, he pointed out that there are around 30 to 50 titles that the platform holder's got its fingerprints on – but ultimately he's not sure on the total.
One thing that's important to note here is that Yoshida's not simply referring to internally developed games – the manufacturer also treats titles like Detroit: Become Human as first-party, even though it doesn't technically own the developer. Regardless, in the wake of recent press conferences, we think that those "no games" complaints can be put to bed.

It may not own the developer, but owning the IP is more than enough. I'm sure insomniac is bitter not technically owning what they develop for Sony.
Insomniac would have been better served sticking with Sony IMO. I am pretty sure their last outing would have sold much better on the ps4 than the one. Still not sure why they decided to make the jump to Microsoft.
@SonyInfinity
It's simple, they wanted to have an IP of their own so they aren't as dependable from Sony or MS and maybe to cash later on by selling it off. But an IP that almost nobody played is worthless ofcourse and I also feel Sunset Overdrive would've resonated better with the PS crowd. While playing SO I actually was confused a number of times and had to check my controller, cause if has PS written all over it.
@Neolit unfortunately without exclusives this industry wouldn't work properly
@Neolit Rockstar actually owe Sony an exclusive and have for sometime.
But I agree with what you're saying. While I understand that a console needs its first party exclusives to draw people in, I don't like how both Sony and Microsoft give third party studios money to lock down their games. There is no reason why Rise of the Tomb Raider and Street Fighter V should be exclusives.
@WARDIE Street Fighter V wouldn't have existed without Sony. Capcom isn't as financially stable as people think, because of that fact Sony paid Capcom to make Street Fighter V so in that way it makes sense why Street Fighter V is an exclusive. It's almost like why Bayonetta 2 is an exclusive on the Wii U.
@Tasuki That's fare enough I guess. I wasn't aware that Capcom are having money issues. In the case of Tomb Raider though, I find that a little unfair. Though from Microsoft's perspective I can understand why they would want that deal. They don't have anything else like it on the Xbox whereas Sony have Uncharted.
If making a game exclusive helps the studio, then I am all for it.
@WARDIE Yeah, the Tomb Raider thing is certainly right at the awful end of the spectrum. I've said this before, I know, but there are paid exclusives where it makes sense anyway, like if MS paid someone to make an FPS aimed at the American market exclusive. Yeah they're trying to take something away from Sony but that's exactly the kind of game that's at home on Xbone and exactly the kind of game that isn't going to suffer by only being on Xbone. When MS start paying for Tales of Vesperia or Idolm@ster 2 to be exclusive, that's when you have problems. You're limiting the success of the game quite massively, especially with the latter example, and really shafting the largest portion of the fanbase of that game.
It's a simple fact that most Tomb Raider fans have a PS4. It's a simple fact that the series has always sold far better on PS than on Xbox and PC combined. It's further compounded that now it'll also have to come out several months after Uncharted 4 had massively raised the bar on that kind of experience. I'm actually not bothered about it from a fan point of view, I can happily wait. I mean, I grew up in an era where we'd get almost every game at least 6 months after America if we even got it at all. The idea that "I could be playing it now if only I did X thing" doesn't bother me. I just don't like it from the point of view of the franchise's health. I also don't like how MS try to glaze over what they've done and accuse other companies of paying for exclusives while they don't, the cheeky bastards.
@WARDIE I agree with most of what you've said completely, but I'm interested to hear why you feel Rockstar "owe" Sony an exclusive. Not disagreeing here at all, just interested to know if there's some history there I didn't know about, like Sony giving them a helping hand in the early days or something? As far as I know the series has always been multiplatform, with even the first games releasing on PC as well as PS1.
@NomNom To be honest how dangerous is it to fund something and not own the IP. Look at how much money they spend on som IP's i wouldn't do it otherwise.
@Matroska The tales series was big bust on the Xbox thats for sure. I still would like to see Tales of Vesperia it on the PS4. Third party games the big ones at least should be for all to enjoy.
Whoever says PS4 has no games obviously doesn't have a Wii U!
Given the PS3 started getting many first-party titles almost 2 years later, means that the PS4 will start getting them out by next year. I see many titles that will be released, and now that the system is selling more than the XONE, it means that almost all of the companies (some good some bad) will start releasing anything they can onto the system, just to make a quick buck. As I've noticed in the past generations of consoles, the one that does the better always gets the dump games and huge library of titles...Sega Genesis, Sony Playstation, Sony Playstation 2, Nintendo Wii and now the Playstation 4 to add. I want to see what haters say about the Playstation 4 by the end of next year...let's see them say that there's nothing on the system then, because right now, I count a lot of various variety on the PS4, which is what I like...not just the same stuff, but various genres and various games to play...I just need to get a bigger HD for my system.
I love exclusives, it can suck at times, but it gives each console it's own unique identity.
@Flaming_Kaiser They're still saying no to it despite it being very highly demanded. It seems pretty damn likely now that the terms of the paid exclusivity was permanent (or at least incredibly long term) in the West but not in Japan. They got the improved PS3 version not all that long afterwards, same with Idolm@ster 2. Also notice how after Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, Mistwalker never touched Xbox again, not even for the Blue Dragon sequel.
@Dodoo That's a pretty safe bet since no one has a Wii U.
@Matroska I know! What idiot would buy a console that has almost no games?!
*looks at Gamepad *
PGW was just the starting point to what PS4 has in store. PSX 2015, is gonna hurt some feelings.
It will be grand.
@Flaming_Kaiser considering how much they are investing, why not? Take the Order 1886 for example. It may be a bad game but it has a good premise, since sony owns the rights to it, they can find a developer who can make more out of it than the original creator, ready at dawn was able to. Maybe not this generation but possibly in the future. Owning it also means it'll remain an exclusive throughout its life time. Just look at Crash and Spyro. Sony didn't own them, they were a first party exclusive, now they are more or less multiplat even if Crash never again sees the light of day.
