Well, this is potentially huge news: Sony's bringing Helldivers to the PC. The game, which launched as a PlayStation exclusive earlier in the year, will be published by a company called PlayStation Mobile, Inc on the popular plaza. This is a division within SCE that has handled various smartphone spin-offs in the past, too.
This is massive because the Japanese giant actually owns the brand – it's not in any way comparable to a Pub Fund title like Guacamelee going multiplatform. It, of course, opens up the possibility of games like Resogun or Everybody's Gone to the Rapture coming to the PC, too – even if we think that it's unlikely ourselves.
To be frank, we're not sure how we feel about this move. On the one hand, it means that more people are going to get to play a great game – but Sony has no horse in the PC race, so it's strange to see it bringing one of its releases to Steam. It'll be interesting to see whether this is just a one off – or if others will follow suit.

I literally just read this on PC Gamer xD!
I did find it strange at first, but there is a lot of hype for the game and I figured those people still on the fence on buying a ps4 from last gen or PC will get a taste with a game or two like this from Sony. At worst they just profit off of this game on steam. At best they attract more people to the PS4 brand.
It does seem a strange move although I suppose you could argue that PC isn't a direct rival to Sony in the way Nintendo or Xbox are and that they cater for slightly different audiences. Plus it will provide some more revenue for both Sony and the developers. And like you say Sammy it's just plain good news that more people get to experience a game they may not have got a chance to otherwise so this may generate even more good will from gamers for Sony, as @NomNom says it could be a good advertising move for the PS brand
I take it as Sony trying to allow these smaller devs to recoup more money. If they show they are willing to play ball with these devs, then inevitably more will want to sign on. Maybe I am totally off base with this, but if it makes them all more money it can't be bad.
@SonyInfinity No, you could be right - for all we know, a PC version may have been written into the contract with Arrowhead.
Still seems odd to me, but it's not really a big deal. It'll be interesting to see if other games follow.
I hope not too many of Sony's exclusives move over to PC because it gives people less reason to buy the console. One Helldivers does need is a constant player base but I thought putting it on Plus would solve this.
Exactly, would be much different if it were Uncharted or Bloodborne. This is no different than Hello Games putting NMS on pc as well, except this is being announced after the release of the ps4 version. I think most small devs these days are wary of signing on for only one platform, especially since they can't withstand financial loss as well as the big boys. This shows them that Sony is willing to let them grow and make their money. Plus, ALOT OF the great, new ideas, coming out these days are coming from small devs and small teams, like NMS. Sony getting their hands on as many of these properties as possible is a good thing. If allowing them to publish on PC helps that cause, then I think they are all for it. No harm, no foul.
PC is a rival, it plays games.
I never game on the PC anymore, its too much like being at work. (I sit at a desk)
The only thing that would make this news even better is cross platform multiplayer
As long as PS owns the IP, it doesn't make too much difference if they publish it on pc, after it launches on PS.
Ooo will it allow co-op across platforms? (Doubt it but one can dream)
Was a great game, i played it a ton when it came out but soon lost its appeal and i never got back into it I'm hoping alienation will have better long term appeal!
Good news for pc players tho, hope it does well.
Well I, for one, am happy about this news.
@Savino without exclusives thou this industry wouldn't work properly unfortunately multiplat games with platform specific exclusive items in them need to die thou
@adf86 well look at the bright side. Atleast there is one thing the Ps version has that the Pc version won't: cross play. Although you do have a point. While I don't mind Sony publishing games to the Pc, I really hope they don't publish that much. Toukiden is one of those games that should have never come to Pc. Along with Mugen Souls (I mean really. Who begged for someone to port this?).
I assume that this is a similar situation with Halo: Spartan Assault and Nintendo developing games for mobile. These games are marketing tools to bring new players to their respective platforms. This isn't a cause for alarm, Sony is selling plenty of PS4s, so there's no chance of Uncharted 4, Gravity Rush 2, etc. appearing on Steam.
