It's been a while since we've written anything about Remote Play, but this deserves its own story: Fallout 4 looks and plays wonderfully on the handheld format. Earlier in the year, Josh Hamrick tweeted that he was working around the clock to make the functionality dazzle in Bethesda's gigantic role-playing release β and the embedded video shows just how successful he's been.
Alright, perhaps shooting fiddly radroaches isn't the best demonstration of the tech, but the game's been given its own control scheme on the Vita which greatly enhances its playability on the handheld. Add in the occassionally leisurely nature of wandering the wasteland, and we can't think of a better fit for the feature than this.

Sony killed the Vita not mobile games, the price for memory cards is way to high for a portable console. I mean why does a 32GB memory card cost more than a 1TB hard drive?
This is ultimately why I choose the PS4 version of a game over the One or PC version in lots of cases. Remote Play is the best feature I didn't know I wanted and I can't believe Sony is letting the Vita just die without even promoting remote play properly. I think just a fraction of the PS4 owners actually know about the remote play functionality and even less realise how amazing it is. There are weeks I play more PS4 games on my Vita than on my actual PS4 and I haven't met a single soul who wasn't impressed by the technology.
I cannot wait to get a PS4 so I can play the games on my Vita... That thing can essentially play some PS1 games (download) some PS2 games (remasters) some PS3 games (PS Now) some PSP games (download) and PS4 games (remote play). Oh and PS Vita games too. Great part of the PS ecosystem and deserves more love.
Let's be honest here, even with customized controls, remote play is still a lacking experience, a let down. There is a reason it has never caught on.
PSNow on the other hand is decent, the smaller screen hides the technical issues that are apparent on a big screen, but it still can't hide the lack of L2L3 and R2R3.
@sub12 if Sony could release an attachment that provided the vita with triggers I reckon the remote play functionality could provide the vita with one last great commercial push. Add in some bundle deals (Ps4+Vita+attachment) at a decent price (maybe β¬450?) and I think they could be onto a winner. It could also be advertised as an extra controller for the ps4 than can play games on its own do it Sony do it!
Did a bit of exploring last night in RP works a treat, was on for a good hour and it worked perfectly for me
@sub12 they switch to either the corners of the screen or on the back touch pad they are there and I've never had a problem so major I had to stop playing through the vita. If remote play was a Nintendo idea it would of been the greatest thing to happen in gaming but cos it's Sony it's dismissed as awful - which is wrong.
@GlynCR well they had the wii u and it was a terrible idea. Bring on Gamecube 2!!
This video is pretty cool although I never use remote play.
I love my Vita even more than my PS4, but I do greatly enjoy Remote Play. Seriously, it's such a cool feature, Sony should be shouting about it from the rooftops!
Plus, if Sony would allow Remote Play with iPad and iPhone using the DS4, it'd be better still.
I can't wait to give this a go on my vita. Looks absolutely fantastic.
@Strofan7 not that I used, some of the shoulder buttons were on the corners of the front screen
@themcnoisy don't think the WiiU but I'd of much rather seen GC2
If Sony had any sense they would help that company peddle the R2/L2 trigger casings pronto...
....and lower the price of memory cards.
I have an og Vita so I just want to pair one my DS4s to it and have a cheap cradle attachment. In my dreams, right?
Seems like the qHD resolution might work better with FO4's textures. AC4 looked great on Vita, arguably better IMO, for example. Must try! Now all I need is to use my fatty PS3 for videos and remote play FO all day π
