It's been about a week since Fallout 4 launched, so we think that it's a pretty good time to get some feedback on how Bethesda's latest is performing. As you're no doubt aware, the developer doesn't have the best track record when it comes to making games that run as they should - but from what we've watched and read around the 'net, Fallout 4 isn't actually too bad, relatively speaking.
When we published our review of the title last Monday, we stated that we'd spent over 70 hours exploring irradiated Boston, and hadn't encountered one game-breaking bug or crash. We're now over 112 hours into the same save, and we're still yet to have any technical issues ruin our fun. Sure, we get the odd frame rate drops now and then, but nothing too serious.
Of course, with a game of Fallout 4's size and complexity, it's very possible that we've just been incredibly lucky, and with that in mind, we'd love to hear how you've been getting on. Have you stumbled across any major problems? How many hours have you pumped into the release so far? Have your say in our included polls, and then let us know the details in the comments section below.

First!!!
Mild spoilers
I've only had one major pain and that was not getting that unique pistol from a person at the end of the quest. The guide states that he will give it to once he arrives at a destinationand you passed the earlyer speech checks.
Survivalist laser pistol. It's pretty op to...
I haven't had any problems whatsoever*crosses fingers*. It's probably the best optimized of any Bethesda console game to date, and man is it fun. Took me a little while to get a hang of the shooting without VATS, but I have it now, and it's pretty satisfying. Every weapon feels unique enough to really broaden the fps experience. The town building and crafting components are simply amazing. Such a great game, GOTY for me easily.
@BladeRider Thanks for your proper comment, but can we not do 'Firsts' please!
@get2sammyb ahh sry bout that .
@SonyInfinity yeah there is so much to love about this game. There are glitches but they are more of entertainment value , like the engine block that shoots you 100 feet into the sky. By far best released Bethesda game ever.
Nothing too bad here. The odd frame rate loss and I did lose Piper for a bit (I got her back though) but other than that it's running very well! The shooting took a little while to get used to but now I'm really pleased with it. Awesome game.
Mine is running great at the moment. Of all the Bethesda games ive played so far, this runs the best. Ive read on the web about some game breaking bugs, but so far so good for me. As for frame rate drops, I havnt noticed any yet, but I play so slowly I would probably not notice lol. Im enjoying this more than Fallout 3. I never thought I would say thay
Crashed once but it runs better than any previous Bethesda game on console.
Now I'm struggling in Trinity Tower because Meatdog is lost somewhere there (I can even hear him crying!!!) but I can't find him! Damned mutant!!!
I really do like the game (played about 40 hours) but there are a few too many bugs I've encountered. It's crashed about 3/4 times (once on the character creation screen at the start) and I've had all of the sound start clipping until it switches off completely. The rest of the game works as it's supposed to, and I do love it, but it is taking the piss a little.
I lost Dogmeat once only for him to appear at my side again...whilst I was in an elevator! I laughed.
Other than getting stuck once (in the scenery) and having to restart and the occasional frame rate drop, it's fine and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
I've had minor bugs pepper my quest thus far. Had quest NPC not respond to me until I've reloaded my save. I've had dialogue subtitles fail to keep up with anything that is being said. I've also had companions get stuck on another floor (or fail to come with me to another area completely), yet still somehow affect the current floor I'm on. Also, when it comes to companions, they like to get me stuck. I've had them sprint up to me and somehow push me into walls and areas you can't normally get to. Normally requires a reload if you can't quick travel. It's not been gamebreaking like Fallout 3's memory leak issue but it's still souring my experience. Still enjoying the game overall though.
@Neolit thats a awsome story , that makes me wonder the raiders killed that dude n took his pistol? that would just make this game more awsome.
My buddy has a video of him about to be killed by a deathclaw only to be saved by a vertibird crashing on it and killing it.
I'm about 35 hours in and haven't experienced a SINGLE crash, which is insane since in the same time I had maybe 10-15 crashes in Skyrim. The only time I had to shut down was when I was fighting a deathclaw and tried to go into my Pip-Boy on what must have been the same frame I died, causing me to enter the Pip-Boy and not be able to back out.
It runs a heck of a lot better then Skyrim did on PS3... I have had a few minor frame rate drops but nothing game breaking.
No major issues with around 50 hours in. Had the Sony crash error once which is always a pain in any game as its so random.
Got stuck inbetween some rubble while mooching for stuff and had to suicide, only once so far.
The most annoying thing for me so far is the crafting and building in smaller rooms, its a headache sometimes trying to actually see the item let alone placing it, so frustrating.
Otherwise an amazing game, struggling to lead normal life at the mo as i cant put the damn controller down
I'm about 40 hours in but probably less than 10 in the main story. I've been messing about pretending to be the Silver Shroud and wish I could get dialogue options elsewhere with it.
No crashes and only occasional frame rate drops, I do have one bug to report. Every time I fast travel out of sanctuary my settlement stats go down, it'll sat I have no beds, food, water and only little defence. So whenever I go there I have to physically walk over the bridge before fast travelling. It's not much of a problem now though as I've moved all my best stuff and companions to the Castle 😃😃
For someone who grew up with Japanese vidoegames, all these AAA western games sure feel like a big bug festival. I enjoy them and play them but I really get the feeling this was really meant for PC and patching...the Witcher 3 is still my goty though (bugs included).
So far, I haven't had any crashes in the game, but have managed to have Dogmeat disappear a few different times where I thought he died, but only to reappear later (usually after I really needed his help).
Biggest gripes about Fallout 4 on PS4 are the long load times, occasional fps drop, and the ability to look at something in pick it up. It's clumsy to use the R3 and X buttons to look and grab things. Wishing I would have purchased this on PC instead :/
It's the PC master race folks who are the vocal minority when it came to this specific issue.
Hopefully most of the bugs/errors mentioned here will be patched up by the time I get around to buying this game in 2016...
I've completed the game & played probably about +30 hours & it never froze on me, like Fallout 3 did multiple times on PS3. I noticed some frame rate drops here and there, but nothing too severe. Load times between fast travels can be a little slow at times. Can't wait to see what they add with DLC.
@ToddlerNaruto - All the issues are minor. I got it day one and put over 50 hours in to it and have ran it to no game breaking bugs. I'm not saying it's perfect but this isn't a repeat of Skyrim on PS3.
It's my second favorite game of the year after The Witcher.
The game has crashed two or three times, and today the speech and some other sounds were muted.
Other than that, it's been running fine.
Been playing non-stop since release day though.
I've only come across one hiccup. I was walking through rubble and got stuck. I tried everything to get my guy out including throwing a grenade at my feet and couldn't get out. So I had to reload my last save file. Not a big deal but it's something I guess
@Splat I've never played any of the Elder Scrolls or Fallout games before, but they are in my backlog.
As for The Witcher, I'll probably play the 2nd game as soon as I own a Xbox 360, hopefully for Christmas this year.
@Neolit Great story dude! This is why I love Fallout. Crazy just happens. I focus on sneaking and sniping. Love blowing heads apart in this game!
Watch the language -Tasuki-
If you lose someone just go to Sanctuary (I keep all companions there) pick someone else to travel with you, sleep a while & after choosing your lost companion to come back to you they should be around.
@Cowboysfan-22 When it comes to getting stuck in scenery, you can always use fast travel to get out of it without having to reload. You can only do this when you're outdoors, though.
Quick Bethesda game tip there!
Early in my game, I happened upon a pistol that does double damage at anything full health. It's been my main weapon ever since, using it in sneak mode is almost always a one shot kill. The best part is that I got it from a legendary radroach which I one shot killed.
My bug related story
Besides the awful frame rate drops, I had an instance where I couldn't enter the entire bottom right quarter of the map without the game crashing. Reinstalling the game didn't work so I ended up reinitalizing my PS4(bye bye P.T. >.<). I spent about 10 hours on that character so it was pretty frustrating. Other than some other little bugs it's worked more or less as intended.
I've had it crash to the OS and have seen frame rate drops in citys. I still love it though and just save often to ensure i dont loose to much progress
@apostateMage Ha!
@Neolit I have noticed that for my superior guns, and guns with ammo that is harder to find, I use VATS exclusively. When it comes to pipe type weapons that use .38 rounds, I generally don't use vats as I have over a 1000 rounds and find them so easily. Pretty awesome being able to switch your game play up during a fire fight.

@Churchy If you don't mind me asking, what are you playing on? I have literally encountered no problems with the ps4 version.
@SonyInfinity I'm playing on the PS4 or as Ashens called it: the Stealth Toblerone.
@Churchy Stealth Toblerone?! Awesome! Weird how the same game on the same console can vary in stability from one console to another. I have read that putting a better drive in your ps4 allows it to run even better. Also read where some folks completely deleted it off their console and re installed it and it ran much better, not sure if that's an option your willing to take though. Just a thought
@Neolit I think everyone will have to admit the fps mechanics are GREATLY improved, and all the guns feel different enough to make them all unique when firing outside of VATS. When I'm unloading a laser gatling or a missile launcher though, it's vats all the way.
Only had frame rate drops in certain areas with lots of trees enemies and fog. Dropped down to maybe15 to 20fps otherwise its been going strong in that regard, however I do have a glitch with a mission. Guy name Barney climbs into a underground entrance yet u can't enter it to talk to him. No prompt at all to enter. It's a side mission though so I just said I'll come back after the next update. So not game breaking just annoying.
Other than that, the game runs fine. Occasionally a bug or glitch will make me laugh but nothing bad.
@thatguyEZ I would have plugged a HDD into the PS4 and did a backup. It would have saved PT for you. That's what I did when I had issues with my system a few months ago. Still able to play PT even. I don't dare though cuz its terrifying lol. I definitely started it up and walked down the hall to see if it worked. Left the game afterword lol. I don't want it scaring me a new way like one unlucky person found awhile later after came out xD.
Only bug I've had was that it wouldn't let me exit the PipBoy menu. Only way to fix was to load an old save (I hadn't saved in about thirty minutes). I was able to navigate in the menu and do everything other than exit (a fast travel probably would've solved this but I had enemies near by).
@Alpha guhh, I wish I had know that before hand. I would've just hooked up the external hdd I use for my Wii U. Though I suppose it's my fault for not doing more research. Though it's pretty lame that Konami decided to take PT off in the first place.
I agree, I never finished it either. I was acing for a rainy day, but now I'll never finish it. It really was a really scary game, and thinking about that just makes me more disappointed that we'll never see what the final product could've been.
The only things I would consider major bugs so far are the item duplication bug using dogmeat, and getting the cryolator early from vault 111. There's been the odd floating stuck enemy, the odd frame rate drop but nothing that really spoils things. I'd say so far much better than Fallout3 or Skyrim especially....
@Feena yeah never had these problems with Megaman or Super Mario on the NES!
I'm amazed how the save game files are so small, with so much going on. No major bugs, crashed once whilst moving furniture, few frame rate drops but not much else (touch wood).
Feel the game throws too many features at you in a short space of time and for once would have appreciated a few tutorials!
@Renandstimpeygti LOL I get what you mean but you don't have to go THAT far back. I'd say we started seeing A LOT of bugs on consoles last generation. Open world-ish stuff with impressive graphic engines, like FF12 or DQ8, were running perfectly on release day on PS2. Because they couldn't be patched later.
