Remember the CG trailer for Ace Combat 7 that was shown at PlayStation Experience 2015? That wasn't CG, soldier – it was rendered in real-time on a PlayStation 4. Phwoar, right? According to new information obtained by Gematsu, the title's using some fancy cloud rendering technology, which means that they're objects floating in 3D space. You'll be able to fly through them if you pivot your craft appropriately.
Even more impressive is the fact that the title's only 20 per cent complete. It sounds like space elevators will feature heavily in the plot, with aircrafts recruited to protect them. As mentioned during the keynote, PlayStation VR will be supported – but it'll be totally optional if you don't own it. We've included the trailer for your viewing pleasure below. Has this announcement got you high? Do a barrel roll in the comments section below.

Yeah, but can you play it using this?
I'll have to dust mine off and play some Top Gun.
@Splat Ha! happy days...
This is great news!
Awesome. I played the flip out of Ace Combat... 5 I think it was? Squadron Leader? That game was brilliant. The only other one I've played is Assault Horizon, which was pretty disappointing.
So long as this is closer to Squadron Leader than Assault Horizon, we're in for a treat!
Unfortunately this looks a bit too good to be true and I'm expecting some big compromises getting it to run well in VR. Still, hope it turns out good. Would love a good arcade flight sim. Not played an Ace Combat since the PS1 era.

I think your looking too much into it. I believe it will have some sort if VR integration of course, but I'm thinking it will be first and foremost a native PS4 game.....so it doesn't compromise the graphics, etc. How will this be done? I dunno, streaming or limited VR use in a certain segment. But yeah, it says right in the article that VR is optional.
@sub12 Perhaps. I'm not sure how limited functionality could work though. But I guess that's why I'm not making video games
@kyleforrester87
Genuine question : Why so negative on the abilities of ps vr? (I'm wondering if I'm perhaps missing some insider info on its limitations)
@Splat
Ah man what a stick!
@Pipr
With VR your not going to get the same quality of graphics as the base PS4 running on your usual television, due to the very high frame rates needed and other resource management issues. So base PS4 looks like a PS4, PSVR pretty much looks like a HD version of the original Wii.
Ace Combat! Hope this installment gonna be great!
It looks cool, but i find the voice work unbearable
All the naysayers here obviously never played Ace Combat 2,3,4,5 or zero. Assault Horizon is not what traditional Ace Combat is about or feels like; Ace Combat 7 seems to be taking the series back to it's roots. Unreal Engine and a few other graphics engines such as the Cry Engine have been optimized for VR so don't worry about the graphics, watch the trailer and see for your self.
First post here. Many, many on NintendoLife.
I couldn't be more excited about this; the first new game announcement in awhile for any system I genuinely would have bought a console for. Luckily I already own a PS4.
High-profile, quality Japanese titles are what I want in gaming and it seems like Sony is finally getting back on board with this concept. Can't wait to touch the skies again.
