Gearbox Software may be building a brand new IP in Battleborn, but it's nice to know that it still thinks that screaming characters are teh funnies. During the big PlayStation Experience 2015 keynote yesterday, Randy Pitchford revealed the latest character to be added to its MOBA meets FPS hybrid: Toby, the Destroyer – a penguin in a mech suit that's so irresistibly random.
The game's due out on 3rd May, but if you're itching to try out the title's latest addition from the Arctic, then you'll be able to sample his special moves in the open beta that's launching on the PS4 in 2016. Those that download the stress test will even get access to an extra character post-release. This is 2K basically saying: please, please try our game.

Meh....huge Borderlands fan right here and I only managed to play the stress test for 4-5 hours before I got bored. I know I shouldn't be comparing this to Borderlands but their inspiration is pretty clear and it's GBX and I want a new BL game so don't judge me.
Really? Why? I know its only been a couple of years but this game is already dragging along, I just don't like it I suppose, the paragon stuff looked a whole lot better than this.
This game just looks like a really boring version of Overwatch.
unlike everyone else, I'm really excited for this game! Loved Borderlands, so this is definitely on my most wanted list. Don't understand all the hatred going towards this game
@hYdeks Same boat as you. Really looking forward to this and Overwatch next year for FPS/MOBA hybrids on PS4.
@hYdeks It's really weird seeing you like something hYdeks, I'm used to your Nintendo Life posts.
I still don't know what a MOBA is, but my 10 year old is really excited for this game after seeing the penguin. Of course he may not be allowed to play it for a few more years, I have no idea what it is, but it looks ok. We're suckers for anything with splitscreen co-op.
@rjejr I'll field this one. MOBAs are what people play when they're just too obnoxious and entitled to play CoD or Halo.
Over watch could be good, but it's looking increasingly like this generations answer to Brink. Remember Brink?
Exactly.
@Johnnycide Thanks. There was an Overwatch commercial on in Gamestop while I was shopping a few hours ago. Oh, I liked your description of MOBA, though I'd go with "pretentious" over obnoxious. I have some idea what they are. Massively online battle arenas or something? My 10 year old likes battle arenas in Skylanders, so this seem slie fun to us, based on knowing almost nothing about it. Graphics and humour are pulling us in I guess.
Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Things like DOTA or League of legends. They're different to skylanders as they're not aimed at younger players.
There's a lot of horrible stories around the communities for those games (not skylanders) which is why my interest waned rapidly.
Not trying to dictate taste or anything, but I'd recommend looking into how the community is before jumping in on it.
Skylanders is boss for the kids though. My friend's 8 year old loves it.
@rjejr lol yea, and can you believe I actually do like Nintendo?!? Crazy, right? Just haven't agreed with most of what they've done lately
If Gearbox want my cash there is one thing they will have to do for me to even consider it - Make "Mr Aliens colonial marines" Randy Pitchford redundent.Imo anyone who listens to that big fat liar is giving him more credit than he deserves.
@hYdeks Yeah, I like Nintendo too, in part b/c I have 2 sons, but you'ld never know it from 90% of my comments over the past year. It really hasn't been fun. I'm looking forward to starting over again next year. XCX, Wii U Minecraft, things are turning around already. I'm just going to ignore Miitomo. Pokken Tournmanet and Starfox Zero and TP HD, and hopefully Zelda U. Don't care if there's an NX version, but the Wii U version needs to release in 2016. Otherwise they might as well just let Squennix make it episodic.
