Sony won't rest on its 30.2 million sales any time soon, as Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has promised more PlayStation 4 firmware updates are on the way. As part of a Dengeki PlayStation stream watched by DualShockers, the executive stressed that the organisation is committed to upgrading its new-gen system's software.
The platform holder recently put out a survey where it referenced oft-requested functionality such as folders, so it's safe to say that the manufacturer is aware of what people are asking for. The big question is: can it get the features out in a timely manner and continue to nurture innovative new ideas like Communities and Share Play?
Yoshida also stressed that next year's going to be "amazing" for the PS4, with Japanese-centric titles such as Persona 5, Nioh, and Dark Souls III on the way. It really is shaping up to be a gigantic 12 months for the new-gen format – and with 2015 already breaking sales records, the firm must be rubbing its hands together in anticipation.

2016 is going to be amazing
Just once I want to see a company say "Yeah next year is really going to suck for our fans... We are NOT looking forward to their bitching! But dems the breaks!"
Jokes aside, I genuinely hope that they're able to continue to enhance their OS functionality without compromising system speed.
Talk is cheap Yoshi, gimme my folders!
For the hundredth time.... EXTERNAL HDD SUPPORT FOR GAMES!!!!!!!
is ps4 able to play blue-ray and 3d blue-ray movie discs like ps3 did?
@maamets It can play Blue ray but not 3D Blue Ray. It can't play music CD's either and it struggles to play DVD's. I refuse to play DVD because of how the PS4 sounds whilst playing the disk. Blue Rays play great though.
@WARDIE It can play 3D Blu-ray. There was an update around about the same time that the Xbox One had one that enables 3D playback.
@FiDRoC I put a 3D Blue Ray in by mistake a few days ago and it wouldn't play it. It said that a 3D device was needed to play 3D movies and my PS4 firmware is upto date.
I will give it another try in a second.
@FiDRoC My bad. You're correct. I just tried it on my 3D TV in my living room and it works.
@maamets Forget my last. It does now play 3D blue Ray disks, just aslong as its connected to a 3D TV.
Why we can't view Trophy's offline is beyond me and needs to be sorted yesterday...
@Dodoo
Agreed. We could on PS3. Is that info cloud based only?
@sinalefa Yes I think it is due to the PSN syncing.
Even so there is zero reasons I can think of as to why you can't view the Trophy list on your local machine irrespective of whether they can be synced or not...
I find it a bit weird tbh!
@Dodoo
My only guess was that the PS4 itself did not save the info, just the cloud, but it is not true since you can still get trophies when being offline so it saves them somewhere in the console. I even went as far as to disable all the network and internet options to see if that did the trick. No.
@sinalefa Yeah I see what you're saying.
It'd be crazy if that was the case (saved in the cloud first) seeing as the game is being fully loaded/controlled on the local machine. I could understand it if they were PS Now games being streamed and the Trophy activated remotely...
Fingers crossed Shu is reading this and pings an email to the correct team within Sony to take action!
@Dodoo
That's a HUGE annoyance for me, in fact the way the machine is so internet-centric has multiple issues for me. But it's apparently due to the fact if you had a pre-existing PSN account it created your trophy account on 'the cloud' (hate that phrase) to apparently "save you hard drive space" but if it was a new account then al the trophy info is stored on the machine.
@feral1975 I see, thanks for the explanation.
In that case then it would be nice to have the option of where we want Trophy info stored, either locally or in da cloudz!
It's ridiculous that my Trophy information has to go from my PS4 to Sony's servers and back to my PS4 before I can view it! Insanely crazy...
I'm running out of room Sony! Support External HDD's!! All of your competitors already do!
same here: folders and external HDD support.
Already got the best feature of this gen: suspend/play <3 my gawd what a godsend that is.
External harddrive support or GTFO.
@feral1975
Actually no, since I created a new PSN account for my PS4 and still forces me to be online to see my trophies.
@Dodoo
Yep I totally agree.
@sinalefa
Ah right, knock yourself offline first and then try it again. I use a workaround and write down which trophies pop. I then switch profiles when I get a chance and open a new account and load the game and the trophies magically appear so I can count off what's left. If I was cynical I would think that that was an intentional block (much the same as voice control always favouring rest mode instead of the turning off option) as a sign Sony want to make sure you're online all the time. But I am.
It shouldn't take 2 years to add folders.
@Link41x I second that. We need a petition.
@JesWood13 Imagine all the games, movies, & music they'd sell. The Xbox & Wii U have external. Ridiculous really.
External hdd support please.
@TomKnows
Seriously ridiculous. This is basic sh*t. What's worse is that there are actually people who excuse this nonsense. It's one thing to enjoy a product but some of these people have an unhealthy love for Sony and PlayStation.
i would love to see more Ps camera options. i think that it has a lot of opportunities to enhance the PS4 experience. i would also love to see alot more features for posting trophies and messages from the PSN to twitter / facebook / G+. it would also be cool to have the ability to upload gameplay video to Microsoft OneDrive. access to folders so you can sort your content, and also the ability to group games on the menu together so the homescreen is not so cluttered would be nice.
