What the hell is going on, readers? We're almost starting to believe that Crash Bandicoot will make his long awaited return at PlayStation Experience this week, as every other dream revival seems to be happening. Tim Schafer took to The Game Awards 2015 stage earlier this evening to announce that Psychonauts 2 is coming to the PlayStation 4 - assuming that you lot can raise enough cash.
The long awaited sequel is hoping to raise $3.3 million on the all-new Fig platform, and it's already well on its way, with $379,012 in the kitty at the time of typing. Should the campaign succeed, Double Fine will be seeking additional funding and investing its own money to ensure that the sequel is up to scratch. You can find out more about the game and back the project through here. Pinch us, readers - is this real life?

Even though I never got to play the first, I've always been very interested in Psychonauts. I screamed when this announcement came up! This will probably be the first video game I donate money to!
I never played the first one, but that was a pretty good marketing video. I'll take a look at their first game later on Youtube, see if I should invest in this.
I loved This game. My main game back on the original Xbox. I thought a sequel would never happen.
Considering the overly delayed and lackluster quality of broken age and how they didn't even bother to finish Spacebase DF-9 it'd be pretty foolish to dive into this head first but you know fools and their money etc.
I would really like to be into this but there are too many elephants in this room. First, the lacklustre release schedule and overall quality of Broken Age. They really need to address this properly. I need assurance that they've learned lessons and that this will be a far better production.
Also, $3.3 million? That seems like way too much. Especially when Shenmue III only had a target of $2 million.
And lastly: "What happened to 3D action/adventure platformers with stylish graphics and color and humor?". Well, Yooka Laylee looks like a much better bet as they already had Pre-Alpha footage and they asked for a lot less.
I really wish I didn't feel this way about this campaign but it just feels like it misses the mark a little.
Some others that should get some sequels...
Ico, Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, a harvest moon game for PS4, another Sims title, Puppeteer, Dark Cloud, Beyond Good And Evil (seriously, what happened to the sequel that was planned on the PS3?), Sphinx And The Cursed Mummy, Ty The Tasmanian Tiger, Billy Hatcher And The Giant Egg and a new Super Monkey Ball.
Still feel it's pretty insidious to use crowdfunding to finance a game when you're an established studio that could easily find a publisher.
While cool I can't trust Tim Schafer to manage the budget and schedule, it happened with Broken Age and with Brutal Legend. Turned out Bobby Kotick was right in the end.
I would be happy but Double Fine already screwed up with Broken Age and Spacebase, can't trust them with Kickstarter again
@JLPick I kept yelling "yeah!" To myself in agreement as I read your comment
@Churchy agreed. It's a bit of a scam to me to be asking fans of the first game to support this new one. (I get that it's kinda one way to get a sequel to some older franchises that otherwise wouldn't happen, but companies should have fate in a franchise at the end of the day)
I believe kickstarter should only be used by indie devs and the like. Clearly Sony don't think there will be enough interest in a sequel so they test the water this way first, just like Shenmue.
So in that case, I'm going old skool and might pick up a physical copy if/when it's released.
@readyletsgo Whilst I see your point, I wouldn't necessarily call it a scam. But I think that if they want more people to support it, they need to address their past mistakes.
Double Fine are in a weird position as I imagine they don't have truck loads of money, but they've got a celebrity of sorts in Tim Schafer and so I think his reputation exceeds their means, but I could be wrong.
Personally, I think it depends on the nature of the project, how it is presented, and the reasoning for using Kickstarter, but I do agree that it should be used by indies. Also, some great games have come of it like FTL, The Banner Saga and Shovel Knight to name a few.
But yeah, I'm in the same boat. I don't really feel the confidence to back it. I wish I didn't as the idea of Psychonauts 2 is amazing and I want it to be a huge success, but I just can't shake that feeling it might not work out so well when it comes to the crunch. I really hope I'm wrong on that one!
I think Kickstarter is great and we are getting some fantastic games from it but Double Fine have demonstrated they will probably only make half a game no matter how much funding you give them so I won't be risking my money on this one until the game is finished and reviews are out.
I thought this day would never come!!!! I love the first game, can't wait!
Devs are scam artists these days. We shouldn't have to help fund your games.
Great news, here's hoping they deliver.
Heh, nearing a million in less than a day. Seems to be on the right track.
$3.3 million? Loool.
Well, if Star Citizen taught guys like Tim Schafer anything, it's that P.T. Barnum was right.
I don't understand people's frustrations with Broken Age when they say lackluster and overall quality. I loved that game to death. I thought it was hilarious, had a great art style and had a difficulty curve on the puzzles that was intense but gratifying. Was it the length that was the problem or are people just repeating what they read in news reports and reviews?
