Here's a nice Christmas gift for you: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has been delayed yet again on the PlayStation 4. The exclusive was originally meant to release in late 2015 before it was pushed into 2016, and now it's been knocked back even further.
The upcoming blockbuster had previously been pegged with an 18th March 2016 launch date in both Europe and North America, but now it's been delayed until the 26th, 27th, and 29th April in North America, Europe, and the UK respectively. We're not exactly sure why us islanders are getting it two days after it releases across the continent, but hey, what can you do?
According to Naughty Dog, the delay is due to the studio wanting to put the finishing touches on "several key sequences". We think that there's little doubt at this point that the title's suffered from a relatively troubled development cycle, but as long as the finished product meets our lofty expectations, we'll be happy.

Wow! Unexpected.
Didn't expect this but I'd rather they take their time and get it right.
DelayStation 4. lol jk
But is suppose this is the right move. This game better be damn near FLAWLESS though.(admittingly however i do not like this gen as much as last, frankly i think this gen is a joke.)
I don't mind when studios delay a game that way we don't get a broken mess full of bugs. I am sure others won't see it that way.
well as long as it will be crafted well , I could wait
Colin Moriarty called it. He's been saying for months that it will be delayed. No big deal though if people are honest with themselves.
I was getting a CM Punk reaction gif ready when I saw the title, but this isn't bad. If it was delayed to way later in the year, I would have been a little upset.
@adf86 Yep, major props to Moriarty - I didn't think it had a chance of getting delayed again.
How on earth did they decided to go USA EU UK either EU or UK then EU. Plain stupid.
fine by me, i would rather a game is delayed than released in a NON functioning state ie: AC Unity
I'm just aggrevated I guess. Knack and Shadow Fall aside, every nonport first party game on PS4 has suffered a delay. and Ratchet is getting Clanked, if you will.
#ColinWasRight plus I would have a great game delayed than a good game released on time.
2015 was the year of delays and now 2016. Expect 2017 delay for Horizon Zero Dawn as well.
Only about a month's delay, not too bad. I'll be taking a "wait and see" approach with this game though, mostly in it for the story/campaign.
Maybe I'm jaded but Sony first party simply does not seem to have its crap together this generation.
That's cool, quality control is always good. I'm still not sure about buying this anyway. I enjoyed U2, but nothing else in the series. Really didn't care for the beta either. I'm in the minority with my opinion. But hey... opinions is what we have..
So what, rather make it good than rush it out besides that, there's plenty to play. But crybabies gotta cry.
@WebHead I agree...
@WebHead Media Molecule, Sony San Diego, Sucker Punch, Studio Japan, Sony London, Pixel Opus, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica and Evolution have all released games on PS4 so far. So there hardly slacking, you just need patience because many of them are making big games, it takes time and a lot of long hours and work.
@adf86 Which leads to my belief that AAA development is broken. Its getting too hard and too costly. PS4 is lucky it has the 3rd party support it has.
When I read the title of the aticle i was about to get into gamer rage mode at yet another delay for yet another console game. A month delay is fine and also if it gives them to polish the game a bit more then thats better. They have given people plenty of warning so have done the right thing. This will be probably my first AAA purchase of the year.
Yeah! Great to me! 3DS has a lot of games early on the year so, push forward!
@WebHead AAA development is broken, though. We've long passed a point where games are too big and too expensive to even take the tiniest of risks. It's why Ubisoft games are so copy and paste.
Eh, it happens. They're likely working ridiculous hours to get this finished, so it won't have been taken lightly.
P*ssed off a little, I admit. But just a little since it is roughly a month.
Also, don't see why people are surprised. ND always delay their games.
So this settles it, with March's big expense gone I will be ordering that Captain Phasma Kotobukiya figurine.
Language - get2sammyb
@WebHead To be fair Sony has funded a good deal of 2nd party games too though. I've said for a long time that AAA gaming is unsustainable because there's too much pressure put on developers by publishers and consumers who demand quality graphics, tons of features, huge world's and for it to run at a decent framerate. It's why I can't stand people who so easily dismiss indie games because right now people can't have it both ways.
@sinalefa Not really, they delayed The Last of Us then Uncharted 4 but all the others launched on time. It's just the nature of AAA development these days.
I'm ok with this
At least it's not a massive delay...
I could not care less about a 2 week delay. More time to focus on PvZ 2, Lego Avengers & Digimon for a little bit since they all come out in the beginning of the year.
I think Naughty Dog are hiding the real reason for delay, they have decided to go back on their decision to kill off Nathan Drake. They decided it would cost too much money just to kill him off.
@fit6958 Just kill him. I'm beginning to think I'm going to be bitterly disappointed if he's not dead by the end of this game. It's time.
I must admit that I can't help feeling a bit disappointed by this news. I have been looking forward to playing this ever since its first announcement and is probably my favourite PS exclusive franchise. I have had this pre-ordered for what seems like an eternity too so finding out I have to wait longer to get my hands on it is disappointing.
I know that ultimately it is for the best and hopefully that extra time will prove to be beneficial and the game will launch 'trouble and bug free'. Obviously developers and publishers delay games for our benefit primarily, so that we receive a better quality of game.
I personally though would prefer games to receive a specific release date (Day, Month, Year) only when the developers are 99% certain that they will meet that deadline. I know things can crop up that are impossible to account for but for the majority of games, this would not occur. I would rather have a months notice and developers stick to it than dates that keep changing. I don't mind less specific dates (like Q1 2016 or even Mar 2016) and then slip (like to Q2 2016 or Apr 2016) but once a specific date is set publicly, I think that (unless an unforeseen complication arises and explained) that release date should be met. I know it may seem trivial but it would at least help alleviate some of that disappointment. Gamers would then know that as soon as a specific date is announced, that is exactly when the game will release - seeing less specific dates would let gamers know that's what developers are aiming for but could change.
I'm a little sad... But it'll benefit from more development time. It'll now be coming out around the time that I'll be finishing my final semester of college, so Uncharted 4 will be one hell of a way to celebrate!
@sinalefa Wow, never thought I'd see the day where you would get reprimanded for language. Really weird. I think Sammy is just upset having to work so close to the holidays, whenever Boxing Day is.
@get2sammyb What if they only delayed it to bundle it with the new 1TB PS4 Slim? Do you think this will force Sony to change the R&C release date of April 12, or is that too locked in with the movie? Maybe I can buy a PS4 Slim bundle w /both R&C and U4?
I like how the timeline mirrors SBBB on Wii which itself got delayed from Nov to Feb to March. (A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.) Reggie didn't happen to announce the U4 date at E3 did he?
@get2sammyb
Sorry, Sammy, I had no idea that was a forbidden word here.
Also, why do you want Drake dead so bad? Karma for killing so many people during all these games?
@get2sammyb Killing Nathan Drake would be a ridiculous and poor decision. It would be right up there with killing off Mario or Lara Croft. At most Naughty Dog could get away with killing one of the supporting cast but I would still feel disappointed if that was Sully, Elena or Chloe. I can understand it if Nathan Drake says he has quit as that can still leave the door open for a return - even if that doesn't happen for a long time but to kill off the major character in a franchise that so far has produced 3 Game of the Year (ALL 3 main games have won at least 1 game of the year awards and I wouldn't be surprised if 4 does as well) would be a BIG mistake.
What next Uncharted 5: Drakes Dream - Drake returns in a shower and explains that 4 was just a Dream????
@rjejr
Yeah, I was surprised too since I am careful with my wording, guess that word was too soft for me
I think Ratchet is fine. It would be dumb to delay a game now and then the other one, instead of just choosing the "correct" date for Nate. Plot twist: U4 gets delayed once more so it won't be close
@fit6958
Maybe the delay is that there still working on optimizing the campaign to run at 60fps! 🤔
More developers should do this rather than releasing games which aren't ready. Better to wait a few weeks for a working game than to wait potentially longer for these issues to be patched out.
@Johnnycide probably 9:30am - 3:30pm with an hour for lunch. But someone's gotta do those hours. If you see me online after Chrimbo mate shoot me an invite, havnt played a game since Destiny ages agooo. Plus I should have more up to date games Just not Unchartered 4
Ah, a month isn't too bad. Also, as Unity has proven, a game is known better for its condition at launch than it is after patches. So ND is correct for wanting to get it right.

@WebHead lol good one, and too true. seems like all the big titles have all had trouble in development, ironically since Playstation 4 is supposed to be easier to develop -_-
Thankfully it's only a two week delay, could have been worse like delayed until Summer or Fall.
I'm surprised people are surprised it was obvious this game was never going to come out in March
My best friend will be angry. He doesn't understand that making a good game takes time. Lol. I'm gonna listen to him rant.
Well, that sucks. But it's not that far off. I'll be busy playing Street Fighter V until then. Unless SF somehow gets delayed too.
6 weeks isn't so bad. I'd rather wait for a polished final product than paying for a broken game which seems to be the norm nowadays.
I'm happy to hear they are taking their time polishing it up. I would rather wait for a stellar game than get a rushed broken one. I've got plenty of other games to keep me occupied in the mean time.
Uncharted 4
Star Fox Zero
Ratchet and Clank
Dark Souls 3
All now due in April. Jeez.
#ColinWasRight
As long as Ratchet & Clank is still coming in April, I don't give a damn
Meh, no biggy for me. I love the series, but an extra month to iron out the kinks sounds about right to me. And of course they will not kill off Drake, he is a marketing gem. They want you to believe he will doe, build the hype and suspense, and then surprise! He is alive after all.....
#COLINWASRIGHT
Well same thing happened with Bloodbourne and that turned out all right.
I would much rather a game be delayed that rushed out of the door. Look what happened with AC Unity.
I find it funny that Neil said it wouldn't be delayed again but its only a few days.
Besides, you can pretty much guarantee that Uncharted 4 will be another Naughty Dog master piece with a score of 10/10.
I'll be able to finish the collection then at least. "A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."
Merry Christmas!
I'd say at least it's only one month but I have a feeling this isn't the last delay it will suffer. I'm thinking September at the earliest, in part because there is no way in hell Guerilla turns around a new IP in 3 years. Another Killzone, sure, but no way Horizon Zero Dawn launches in 2016 and it's obvious God of War and Gran Turismo won't be ready either, I can't see Sony having another year without a big fall release so my guess is it will be Uncharted. So hopefully Street Fighter V and Ratchet & Clank stay on track and then there's the niche filler like Gravity Rush, God Eater, Yakuza Zero, etc. If you don't care for the those B games you're s.o.l. fortunately I like a lot of niche stuff, especially Gravity Rush.
I do have some concerns about all these delays for Uncharted. It's obvious at this point that it's a completely new game from what it was going to be, don't really think that can be disputed. What I'm hoping is they don't make some terrible design choices. Some conversational options here and there is fine, but this talk I'm hearing of an open game does have me wondering. If 'more open' means like TLoU that's ok what I don't want is it going beyond that. I love open world games but there's also a place for a linear action game with a tightly written narrative. It's Naughty Dog so the benefit of the doubt is given.
@sinalefa @BAMozzy I just want Naughty Dog to be bold. After all they've said about making this a fitting end and wanting to move on from the series, I want to see them prove that they're serious and ready to move on.
They should kill him and not look back. I don't want any get out of jail cards, where he's "killed" off-screen or something like that. Finish the fight - properly.
@get2sammyb
You don't have to kill the character to move on. Plenty of tv series have ended without characters dying. I think Naughty Dog has shown in the past it's willing to move on when it wants to.
As long as it isn't broken when released, I'm cool with one extra month. Longer wait, though, means higher expectation... It's a big risk, but Uncharted is gonna sell greatly anyway, no matter what gamers and critics think.
@Ichiban
Huge missed opportunity with the movie if Ratchet & Clank doesn't make it out in April. Unless the movie is going to be delayed again, of course, but I'd be surprised. Releasing two big games just week apart though? Yeah not happening. There's not a chance in hell Uncharted will be out in April and all these delays are getting f'ing annoying. Another one will be announced by February. Should've just did what SquareEnix did with Deus Ex and announce the long-a$$ delay right up front (can't believe I'm giving SE credit for anything). Some people will get p*ssed, although at this point the game has been delayed so much already I'm more sick of the 'we're definitely going to hit this date,' bs and then they fail yet again. Just say 'holiday 2016' and be done with it. Also takes Guerilla, Santa Monica and Polyphony off the hook. With Uncharted in September there is no need for Horizon or God of War. You could say GT would be welcome as it's an entirely different genre but lets be honest, GT 6, at least in regards to the history of that franchise, was a major fail so Sport needs to be as close to perfection as possible.
ot could be worse! You could have bought a Wii u over three years ago for the promise of Zelda u, just to face delay after delay! With the eventual possibility of it being released on another new console
Just get it right, I don't want another Uncharted 3...what a soulless game that is.
@Boxmonkey
That's true too. Nintendo has always been bad with release dates. Actually part of the reason I got more into PlayStation and Xbox. Sony and MS have certainly had their issues as well but with all the third party support it's not like you have nothing to play. Not to turn this into an anit-Nintendo rant but I could never own just Nintendo anymore because the wait between the big first party games is long with nothing to fill in the blanks.
@Gamer83 True, I guess I just don't want the temptation to be there.
@get2sammyb
I think there's going to be more Uncharted regardless. It's just not going to be from ND. I don't think Sony can afford to just give up on this franchise though, I believe every game has done 5 mil or more in sales. It's definitely among the bigger series Sony has and it can't afford to just cast it aside like Syphon Filter or Twisted Metal.
@Gamer83 couldn't agree more! I only bought a PS3 about 3 years ago! I've since bought a ps4 and sold my Wii u. I've always been a first day adopter of Nintendo products but not anymore. They need to prove to me that they can get it right. The Wii u costs about the same as a ps4, how does that make sense.
Bruhhhhhhhh
@XFsWorld
It'll be ok as long the other games - Gravity Rush, MLB, SF V, Ratchet & Clank - stay on track. Uncharted 4 is a brand new game. I just wish they'd tell us that rather than keeping up this bs. There's no way they didn't know this game was going to take this long to get out. Especially once Amy Hennig was forced off the project and they had to restructure. Obviously you don't want to air all your dirty laundry to the public but a little honesty never hurts.
I bet you a few other PS4 Exclusives will get delayed until 2017. It always happens Anyway I can wait for perfection which this game will be I bet
@Neolit That's alright, sometimes you just read the article then comment right after. I do it all the time.
I wouldn't mind most games getting delayed till 2017...as long as this and Persona 5 come out next year.
Dang the longer its delayed the longer I have to wait for a price drop to $30 at which point It pick it up.
@Carl-G There's no way in this world Horizon comes out in 2016. Zero chance, IMO.
I don't get it. What could they possibly add to the game within a month? an 8-12 hour game takes years to develop, so what will 4 weeks do that will make the game so great?
"Crap crap crap" for 1 month delay? Wow. Just wow.
this game isn't coming out in April either. Ask yourself this, how much footage have you actually seen? how much spotlight has one of the biggest games on sony platform been getting?
I say end of 2016, hope fully it's not another driver club.
@Gamer83 Maybe Uncharted 4 can end decisively with this guy going to the restroom in a diner. Don't stop believin'
@get2sammyb @sinalefa
I obviously don't know what Sinalefa wrote since you edited it, but when Robert writes "Crap crap crap" as the subtitle, well you guys aren't exactly setting the language bar very high now are you?
@rjejr
I wrote p*ssed without the censorship. And I guess Robert was quoting Drake, but I feel you have a point.
@Gamer83
I can't figure out people who buy a Nintendo system for one or two games only. Or any system actually. Having a PS4 or X1 in addition to a Wii U is an easy way to avoid draughts. Expensive? Maybe, but the hobby ain't cheap anyway.
@slampog
That subhead was obviously just clickbait. But being real, it's not going to be 'only a month.' Naughty Dog hasn't come close to hitting its deadlines on this at all. If the game's not ready it's not ready, I get that, but giving unrealistic release dates is what annoys me and several companies have been guilty of it this gen. Two of my top 5 most anticipated games of the year, Deus Ex and Uncharted have just suffered delays from release dates that were never going to be met to more release dates that are not going to be met. Maybe Bethesda's strategy really is the best. Just keep quiet about games until they're nearly ready. To be fair, it's easier to do that when you're not in a position like Sony, MS and Nintendo of trying to sell a console based on current and future lineup (SE is not in this position however, so maybe Deus Ex should've been kept under wraps).
@wittypixel
Good point about the footage as well. We practically saw all the cutscenes and levels in Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Call of Duty, Halo 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, etc, before they were out. On Sony's first/second party side we saw the vast majority of, if not all of, the important stuff in Killzone: Shadowfall, inFamous Second Son, The Order and Bloodborne prior to release. This day and age the game is spoiled for you well ahead of time. Sony wouldn't keep its biggest game under wraps to avoid spoilers if it had a lot to show. September at the earliest, I'm going to predict mid-October. I think Sony knows it has to get the game out in 2016 but it's not going to be before the holidays. I expect maybe a lengthy singleplayer demo in the middle of summer as sort of a 'sorry this is taking so long.'
@sinalefa
I agree multiplat is the way to go. I'm saying if I had to narrow it down to just one though, Nintendo is the first to get the boot because it misses too many games. Right now, this point in the gen, and I never expected to say this given the work Sony's first parties did last gen, if I had to pick just one, it'd be the Xbox One because Sony's first parties have been miserable.
One month isn't too bad of a delay...I was waiting to open this up and see a larger delay (holiday of 2016), but thankfully I was wrong. I'm kind of happy though, as I have a lot of PS4 games to play in the mean time (without that much time) and I still have a massive library of PS3 titles to play. With all of the delays in gaming today, this isn't the biggest news...heck, nintendo's wii u has had nothing but delays, which is why I got rid of mine at the beginning of the year (and still don't really miss it). Sony will probably have a pretty good game library by the end of 2016 and I'm sure by 2017, there will be so many games out, people won't notice any delays or droughts. As long as Dreams, New Hot Shots Golf, Ratchet And Clank, Gravity Rush, The Last Guardian and Uncharted 4 come out in 2016, I'm happy!!!
@JLPick
The Last Guardian will come out for PS VR 3 in 2034
@Gamer83 @slampog Bloody Hell guys.
@sinalefa "Maybe, but the hobby ain't cheap anyway."
Can be less expensive if you're willing to be a year or 2 behind the times. And don't buy any Nitneod 1st party titles for 4 years. Or their hardware. If people are willing to be 5 years behind they could probably game pretty cheap on a PS3 for years to come.
Oh, and about what you wrote, I'd say that is a lot less offensive than any cover of any Senran Kagura game, that's for sure. And I didn't realize the subtitle was quoting Drake until you mentioned it. Guess it's a good thing Drake didn't say he was PO'd about something.
Happy Holidays.
Never a shortage of games to play in the mean time. We all know this game will be great.
The game has been delayed by TWO WEEKS the article suggests 2 YEARS. Get a grip.
Happy to wait it out. I know it's going to be good, and it's not like early 2016 isn't overflowing with quality games already.
Better to delay and release a solid game than a rushed piece of turd!
@rjejr
You and your family have great holidays too my friend!
@Gamer83
Because of my tastes the Nintendo console is the one I can't do without but I totally get your point. If I had to pick just one of the other 2 I would go Sony just because of the bigger userbase, as that means more third party games. But I agree MS has superior exclusives at the time.
@sinalefa
Guess the good thing is to be in a situation to own multiple systems. I really wouldn't want to have to narrow the PS4, X1, 3DS and Vita down to just 1. Each are well worth owning, even with all the frustrations they cause.
Can't say I'm surprised just disappointed, guess this is a benefit for me as I can wait a bit longer to buy a PS4 hopefully long enough for a superior model two to come out as in the past (PS2, PSP, PS3) the second model has been my favourite revision.
NO! A month and a week delay. I will take this punishment for you Naught Dog
