Sony said that it would be offering PlayStation Plus extensions in the wake of the recent PlayStation Network outage, and it's come good – in Europe at least. We just received an email from the manufacturer promising us an extra 24 hours of service. In order to unlock it, you'll need to redeem a code on the PlayStation Store which will expire on 31st March.
You'll only receive the email if you had an active PlayStation Plus membership on 4th January, so if your sub recently ran out, then you won't be eligible for this compensation. Considering that the service was only down for 10 hours at most, this is a nice little gesture – but, of course, it would be better for everyone if the servers hadn't crumbled in the first place.

I'm from United States and I got my email yesterday.
I wasn't even on that day, so I can't complain. Especially when it's a free extension even if it's only for a day.
But yeah, they should be ahead of the curb by now to not let this happen, especially since it's for the most part a premium service now.
I got mine today at noon
I got mine. Honestly I thought the reason sony waited so long to announce what they were doing was because they were going to give subscribers more than just an extra day.
I haven't gotten my E-mail yet. I don't understand why they need us to put a code in though. There's no excuse to not just automatically extend like last time. Seems like a petty way to have most people not do it to me.
I'm in UK and got mine evening of the 15th.
Nice gesture from Sony. They didn't have to do it.
Have I ever got anything when my electricity supply has been interrupted? No.
How about when my TV, broadband or mobile service goes down? Mmmm? Sometimes if I've made a fuss.
I bet those who complain about it "only being a day" won't refuse to take it lol
I've had my email with my extra 24hrs. I know its not much but seems fair in this instance. Around 2hrs free for every hour it was down and that's assuming you were trying to play for all of that time. I doubt they could have given less than 24hrs from a technical position anyway.
yeah i got mine yesterday
Great response by Sony...not many companies would bother to do this.
Cba'd checking my email's for a measly 24hour's, if it was worth it I might, I suppose it's nice they did something but an extra 24 hour's seem's pointless, a drop in the ocean. Maybe a free theme would of been better.
While it's great that they make up for the lost time, it's just a single day, it seems pointless. It's a cost of about $0.13 for a single day of PS+. That's thirteen cents. Are people really clamoring for this?
@Neolit sadly thats not true for the UK, at least not England, but your point has merit.
Im not really affected by this event anyway, I pay yearly and I understand mass networks have hiccups.
Also, in comparison to the time I pay for, one day is of little use, Id rather they just give it someone else.
@wbh1138 I deleted the email without even reading it.
@Neolit
My real point is there is too much negativity going on around this hobby.
We can't expect every service to be available 100% of the time.
Sony responded. Let's be happy about that.
