A demo, over 100 articles, and a decade later, Final Fantasy XV will finally release in 2016. Square Enix has posted a New Year blog from director Hajime Tabata which confirms the news, stating that the development team's now moving into the final phase of production, where it will focus all of its "effort and willpower" into completing the long overdue RPG.
"I vow to you all that every member in the team will do their best to the very last possible moment taking responsibility and pride in their craft," he said. "We will do everything that we can do to finish FFXV to create an experience that we are incredibly proud of and one that you will enjoy and treasure." No word on a date yet, but a recent survey did appear to hint at the summer. Personally, we'd bet on the fall.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fall would be better than summer, first half of the year is fairly jam packed.
@Mega-Gazz The whole year is looking to be pretty jam packed
My poor wallet
Good thing I'm graduating this spring. I'll have plenty of time afterwards to find a job so I can afford all the games coming out.
My birthday is in July Squenix, PS4 FFXV bundle would make a most excellent gift. And while the ntire year is crowded, April is loaded with both Uncharted 4 and Rachet & Clank. Though the way that guy is talking I'd say Tuesday December 27th is the most likely date., not summer or fall.
Happy New Year everyone. Should be a good one.
Are people still excited about this game? Everything shown so far has seemed so dull. I am far more excited about the FF7 remake.
KH3 2017, hopefully?
Can't believe it's actually been 10 years since this game first got a trailer. Blows my mind
I'll believe it when I see it on store shelves in 2016.
Cannot wait for this, I finally got round to beating the demo recently and whilst I'm still not convinced about the combat, there seems to be more than enough rpg goodness to keep me interested.
@carlos82 the combat really needs to improve. If it doesn't the game will struggle to garner worthwhile scores after Bloodborne, MGS V and Witcher 3. Combined with the cheesy script and poor design choices - I can see this being a real turkey. That's all the single player game series needs after 13 and the huge wait since 12.
I'll believe it when I'll see it, but they've made good progress recently, so I'll give kudos to them for now.
yay now a release date for kh 2.8 and 3
Nice to see some barbecue action in Final Fantasy at long last.
I'm more excited about kh3 now and would rather that come out (it won't haha). But this has the potential to be in my top 3 if done right. Please let it be done right.
I feel quite lucky that I haven't been anticipating this for its entire development process. FFXIII and its spin-offs did a great job of killing my interest in the series so I've only been looking forward to XV since around the time the demo came out - and even then, there have been loads of other things along the way to take my mind of it.
Even then, I'm looking forward to DQXI more. All I ask of DQXI is to be something that's basically DQVIII but with PS4 graphics. That should be doable. For FFXV to fully reignite my love of the series, or at least bring it out of the past, I feel like it'd have to be another VII or IX, and that's asking a lot.
Also, I'm still really, really not sold on the protagonists of XV. The only character that catches my attention is Cid (or whatever they're calling her now) and that's only in the way that a DoA character catches your attention.
I'm expecting FFXV & KH II.8 this year (2016) and then KH3 in 2017 hopefully...
