Quadro Delta and the team behind the 2D hit survival game Terraria recently announced the release of Pixel Piracy on the PlayStation 4 – and the boarding begins on 16th February. In the game, you control a pirate captain who recruits a bunch of savvy shipmates to help you on your adventures through the seas looting, pillaging, and plundering, where the goal is to become the world's most legendary pirate. The most fearsome one at that.
While the game employs simplistic visuals and a side-on perspective, it actually harbours plenty of RPG-inspired depth beneath the water's surface. The port's being helmed by the increasingly busy conversion company Abstraction Games, and the team's apparently re-worked the user interface so that it makes more sense on Sony's new-gen system. You can point your eye-patched peepers at a trailer below.

I'll certainly give this a go
@Simon_Fitzgerald
The thing I found about Pixel Piracy is that at the start, it'll take about 15 minutes to fully understand the core concepts of the game which involves your crew and ship, so after about 20 minutes the game will continually get more immerse, fun and complex. You just have to bypass the first 10-15 minutes, although they can be fun too as you admire all the new things.
Sound's intresting I may give this ago but them january sale's are pretty decent this month for RPG fan's and i'm planning on picking one up. Might have to wait a wee while but i'll defo try it I reckon.
@Phillendon isn't that the same with most games though, having to do tutorials and get used to the controls
@Simon_Fitzgerald
It's slightly different in Pixel Piracy as the tutorial is about 2 minutes long and features how to move, buy stuff and attack things. You're then left hanging for 10 minutes trying to figure it all out properly and effectively play the game.
Going off the Steam reviews and videos I've seen, all the islands are the same, all the towns are the same and have the same 6 buildings. Somehow it has terrible performance even on very powerful PCs (more powerful than the PS4). The UI is terrible and the controls are awful. It's funny seeing this coming to PS4 and Xbox One after it having a bad reputation on PC for a while now.
Some of the reviews:
I will say that the majority of reviews are positive, but many of them are either just one-line pirate jokes or ones like this that feature such a large list of terrible things that it feels like it should be a negative review:
Love the video. Platonic Relationships! Haha 😆 laughed at that.
@Matroska its a pity really would of loved a well worked mini pirating game. Those reviews are really bad and pretty consistent.
I am so up for this. Let us sail together me hearties!
I'll be up for it...depending on the price though. Not many games on the store that are $10 or less anymore.
Plus, if I end up buying something at full price on the store, the very next week it's on sale or a flash sale...never fails to cease me!
@JLPick let me send you the list of games you should buy so I can get them cheaper next week.
@Elodin (laughing)...it's my luck! I just bought 3 a few weeks ago, and then tuesday came...all three were on sale for %50-75 off...same thing happened again this past week. It's happened plenty of times during the PS3 too...seems to be my luck!
