It's PlayStation 4 firmware update time, so prepare your bandwidth and brace yourself for bitter disappointment: more system stability awaits. The console's latest upgrade β dubbed v3.15 for those keeping count β doesn't make any noticeable changes to Sony's device, but it weighs in at just 275.5MB, so at least you'll be able to download it in record time.
Remember, you can set your system up to do its dirty work in Rest Mode, and we'd recommend you do if you're prone to getting restless on social media. You can find out how to do that through here. Otherwise, prepare to bask in the glory of a much more stable experience. Seriously, though β can we have a proper firmware update next time?

Sounds like it's an anti-hack update.
One thing I've noticed recently is that accessing friends list/party set up etc seem to be running really slow, I don't know whether this is a widespread issue but everything else seems to run smoothly
@Matroska Ah, I'd forgotten about that. Agreed.
@Matroska Good shout, let's hope so. I'm not too fussed if PSN goes down for a day but I do care about the safety of my information stored within it.
Maybe laying the groundwork for something good?
@Mergatro1d I don't mean someone else hacking you, I mean the PS4 being hacked by the owner to play pirated games and other software not permitted by Sony. That's what these little mysterious firmware updates usually are. They just call it "stability" because the system is now more "stable" i.e. harder to hack into and play pirate games on.
I hope Sammy doesn't mind this, obviously delete if if you do, but the PS4 firmware was recently hacked and they got Linux running on it. This was reported on IGN and other major gaming sites so hopefully Sammy and co don't regard this as a problem for me to post it here.

@Matroska aah, I see. Cheers for the clarification!
@Matroska to play the devils advocate, any hack is an exploitation of a flaw, an insecurity in the system, which would be more secure (and thus more stable) with it patched.
My personal opinion is I want them to lock the system down tight. I think that they should do a Google-like reward system for exploits. I know the anti-piracy (and anti-cheating) stance is a lonely one on the internet, but I take it nonetheless.
Yes, usually these small updates are to iron out OS bugs, upgrade security and test/prep a system for a larger update later.
Meh ...cant expect something grand every dang update! =/
Goodbye yet more HDD space !
@thedevilsjester Yeah, I don't want it to get hacked either. For me, it's not so much about being anti-piracy but more about being pro-buying games. Giving something back for all that entertainment. I have about 350 Steam games, 110 GOG games and so far 21 PS4 physical games plus many more digital games (not to mention previous gen games). I want to get enough PS4 games so that I can build a little house out of them.
@MinerWilly you'd think that it's not only adding new information but deleting old so hopefully these small updates don't do as much damage to available space as you think they might. Not that I've tested that theory mind you.
Maybe they're uploading part of Kaz Hirai's consciousness into every machine.
@kyleforrester87 @MinerWilly Just recently my hdd space has hit double figures and went as low as 25gb, although I have 13 retail games, I'm general good at maintaining the space . That's without fallout 4 and a couple of other games on my drive. Worryingly it was huge updates to witcher, hardware rivals, metal gear, Gauntlet and the os which took shed loads off me in a couple of days and I deleted a load of games to give me breathing room in case it happens again. A 1tb or 2tb upgrade could come sooner rather than later. I'm unsure if these updates automatically delete defunct information, I don't think it works like that.
I would like to clarify that the patch notes indicate that it's a performance update, not stability as usual... this update unlocks the 7th core...
hmm, i don't know why the article warms about the firmware update would takes alot of bandwidth. Mine downloaded faster than i even brink an eye.
speaking of updates, is anyone else's PS4 NOT automatically downloading and installing system and game updates in rest mode EVEN though you have it set up to do it?
