There aren't too many surprises to be found in the PlayStation Store's list of best sellers for 2015, but hey, everyone likes a look at what's been hot over the last 12 months. In Europe, Destiny: The Taken King took the crown as the most downloaded PlayStation 4 title, beating out the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops III - which placed in second - and FIFA 16.
Meanwhile, the North American charts paint a slightly different picture. In the New World, Black Ops III managed to take the top PS4 spot, and was followed by Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition, and Star Wars Battlefront. That said, Bungie's shooter still nabbed first place in the PS4 add-on category, probably just to make all of this more confusing than it needs to be.
As for the Vita, the only game really worth mentioning is Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, which placed in fifth in Europe, and actually slashed its way right to the top in North America, which isn't bad at all for a game that released in 2014.
In any case, we've included the full lists down below so that you can rant and rave about peoples' terrible taste in the comments section.

I would have thought The Witcher 3 did better. That said I'm sure most went physical to get the goodies that came with it.
Also love it or hate it Call of Duty is a money making juggernaut.
MGS V so low
I expected to see more indie's in there, I thought game's like Life is Strange and that walking simulater (I can't remember the name) where you stroll through a little town in England would do better digitaly. They were even more unpopular than I thought lol. Also the fact BF4 sold more than BFH in 2015 Europe show's how poor BFH was in comparison.
@xMEADx Or how good, and cheap, BF4 is.
I'm glad to see Rocket League had good success. Definitely one of my favorite games of last year
I think from a gamers point of view, seeing stuff like Call of Duty & Fifa at the top is surprising when games like Bloodborne and Witcher 3 are winning all the awards. I guess sometimes those in the gaming community forget about the more casual player and how many sales they account for.
@SouthTippBass exactly, so in comparison BFH is poor compared to BF4 because BF4 is so good. @mrobinson91 agreed.
@mrobinson91 @xMEADx I think it also shows how popular downloads are becoming, too. I don't quite buy into the argument that retail is dying just yet, but it's clear that if more casual PS4 players are prepared to buy digitally, things have really changed.
It's interesting to see MGSV do so comparatively badly. Personally I didn't really like it. It was by far the least Kojima-y Kojima game I've ever played. It felt like an Assault Horizon-esque play for the mainstream that sacrificed a lot of its charm and soul in the process. It was also clearly forced out before it was ready and has the entire last chapter missing. I feel somehow glad to see that it didn't really pay off that well.
@Splat Well it did do really well. There's no way it's bigger than the games listed above it, though I admit Need For Speed's a funny one. I thought its moment had passed long ago. The games above it are all juggernauts with long histories, TW2 was only on PC until a belated Xbox 360 release and TW1 was only on PC. It did really well to be put on the same list as those titans.
@mrobinson91 Its not that different from the Oscars in Movies - rarely do the biggest box office hits win the best movie. Bloodbourne for example maybe the best game of its type but it is also very 'niche' too and unlikely to appeal across the full spectrum of gamers. Not everyone likes RPG's or has the time to invest in the story/lore surrounding these either so games like the Witcher are not going to have a broad appeal. A lot more people though can pick up and play a FPS or Fifa game. These games are not just 'Casual' either in my opinion but can appeal across a wider selection of gamers. CoD for example is an eSport game and you wouldn't classify those players as 'casual'. It is a game - like football - that is played by casuals all the way up to professionals. Anyone can buy a football and have a kick-about, but we also have the whole range of people that dedicate (almost) every single waking moment to playing football at a professional level too. The games like CoD, Fifa etc can be played for maybe an hour a week on a very casual basis, have a few matches as and when - easy to pick up and play solo or with friends, easy to slot in to a busy work/social/family situation, can be entertaining, fun, a laugh etc but can also be played for hours and hours daily and taken very seriously. Games like the Witcher are not so easy to pick up and play on a casual and intermittent basis.
Hard to respect Europe when fallout 4 and Bloodborne isn't in the top 10, wth Europe lol the lists are pretty predictable otherwise
I see Destiny is still raking in the dough. I really liked Vanilla Destiny, but was burned out by the time the rest of it released. Any news when we might get Fallout DLC or mods on ps4??
I would love to see the retail list of best sold games.
@hYdeks Well at the expense of Rocket League Im afraid us Europeans have much better taste RL for the win. Frogs legs anyone?
@Matroska "has the entire last chapter missing" - errm no it doesn't. You have played phantom pain to completion right?
@Splat hate it, don't mind CoD but I do mind activision like A LOT! their goal is to put everything the possible can behind a pay wall.
@themcnoisy It's widely accepted that there was supposed to be a third chapter and that the game ends abruptly and anticlimactically. I'm not sure how that wasn't obvious to you just from playing it, but even if it somehow passed you by there's actual evidence of additional cut missions and even an entire chapter that didn't make it into the game. It's been covered dozens of times on dozens of gaming sites. There was even a title card for Chapter 3 found on the disc.

It's sad that it ended on this note but at least Kojima's free to do whatever he wants next.
@Matroska I spent 115 hours in the game, I haven't done that since the Mass Effect trilogy. The very end of the game was a bit weird but it does 'end' - but the pre endings of Quiet, The child soldiers and Emmerich are more than enough to warrant the metal gear logo. I'm unsure what all the haters of phantom pain wanted.
Yes there were issues, a few missions have been cut, but the game is a masterpiece. Its metal gear but more playable than ever with an output of 1080p 60fps - something other games really need to learn from. If this game and its charms 'passed you by' you may have been too busy reading harsh articles on menial subjects rather than diving headlong into what I consider an amazing game. Don't just take my word for it. It finished at number 2 in the Eurogamer end of year awards.
@Splat
I'm actually more impressed GTA V managed to stay at No. 2 than I am about Black Ops 3 topping the charts. I think most of us would've guess CoD would be in the top 3, it is every year. Like you posted, love it or hate it, it prints $$$.
Im dissapointed in European gamers Destiny and COD.......
I'm suprised Fifa did better than Madden in NA as well.
